Blizzard has announced the following updates for Starcraft II in an official press release from BlizzCon:
War ChestWar Chest is the name of a new series of seasonal content for StarCraft II. Players who take part in the War Chest will be presented with an unlockable star map. As they gain experience points through playing StarCraft II ladder matches or cooperative missions online, players can use those points to open up different pathways through the map, which will unlock fun bits of story and lore, as well as exclusive digital content including unit skins, portraits, decals, and emojis. Players gain access to each season of the War Chest by paying a nominal fee. Proceeds from each season will go into funding the StarCraft II World Championship Series (WCS). Co-op updatesSince the feature debuted with the launch of Legacy of the Void, cooperative missions have become a very popular game mode in StarCraft II. More exciting content is coming for cooperative in the coming months. A new commander, Stukov, is based on a popular infested Terran character from both the original StarCraft and StarCraft II campaigns. Stukov’s base will consist of Infested Terran structures that constantly spawn infested units. This will make his gameplay style markedly different from other commanders. A pair of new cooperative missions will also release soon. Miner Evacuation will task players with escorting civilians off of a dangerous planet. Dark of Night is based off a popular Arcade mission called Left2Die, where countless waves of infested are sent to overwhelm the players. Another new feature coming soon to cooperative missions will be leaderboards. All cooperative games will be scored, and the best scores will be posted online for other players to try and beat. Nova Covert OpsThe final three missions to Nova Covert Ops will release soon, bringing a thrilling conclusion to the downloadable campaign that kicked off earlier this year. Multiplayer updateA comprehensive set of multiplayer design changes is coming to StarCraft II shortly after BlizzCon. The changes have been in public testing for the last couple of months. Terran changes will allow for more viable mech play with a full overhaul of the Cyclone and Siege Tank, with the latter being given a big damage buff in exchange for the removal of its ability to be picked up and dropped off by Medivacs while in siege mode. Zerg changes include a range and speed buff for the Hydralisk as well as a Baneling health buff. Protoss adjustments include a new ability for the Tempest, which serves as a tool for zoning and area denial, a speed increase for Zealots, and blink for Dark Templar. The changes are intended not just to shake up the metagame for competitive StarCraft II—the hope is to increase overall strategic diversity and bring the game to a state where the meta can evolve in a healthy way on its own. For a full list of changes, check the StarCraft II website: http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/20241474/legacy-of-the-void-multiplayer-design-changes-8-14-2016

Warchests sound awesome and a leader board for Co-op is also a great idea!
|
Imagine if these War Chests happened in the end of 2012. Lets hope it will breath some renewed life into the game
|
Would be cool if co-op could trickle into 2v2

god thought blink DTs had been scraped long ago.

Warchest sound like it could be good, but paying for it each season is quite discouraging. Having fun in games doesn't seem as an objective, rather a way to get your skins after you paid. I would prefer free and no skins.
|
Source? for "as well as exclusive digital content including unit skins, portraits, decals, and emojis. " in War Chest
|
|
Super excited for the War Chest!!!
|
The war chest sounds difficult to sell with that information alone - I hope it becomes a cool feature and not a kind of collection of alms from the congregation. Paying for emojis? In SC2? No, certainly not. I rather put moneys on SC2 content such as Stukov. Now that sounds like a cool commander! Dark of night sounds great too, I loved Left2Die! <3
|
Sounds really cool, I feel it will be somehow similar to adventure mode in D3 in a way. Aside from that, the article on the bottom states that they are working on a "watch" tab on the main menu, so probably some sort of spectator mode and/or in-game stream options are coming sometime in the future

ok i see . i do see in game content but it doesnt really specify what type of content but i guess its safe to asume

Hm, not sure if it's all, but the it specifies some things.
"We’ll have new faction-specific skins for each race—the brutal Tal’darim, Primal Zerg, and the Terran mercenaries, for example. We also plan on releasing new digital comics with each new War Chest season. The three comics will involve each of the races and you’ll be able to read them directly within StarCraft II. New command console skins will also be offered as a reward."
|
Sweeet, can't wait for this!
|
I'm curious about Deepmind...
|
So basically Team Games will be completely unplayable due to Carrier buff (it's already the biggest cancer in team games) and DTs. But hey, who cares about team games, the chosen ones aka pros don't play it anyway.

Hahaha nice try! I must pay THEN grind to get items, right Blizzard D:

Paying for a game where you play it and get rewards? Unthinkable. No word about WCS so far though
You can ignore it

Btw, something that might've been missed by most.
Blizzard mentions the "watch" tab and custom tournaments at the bottom here:

New Arcade features, Custom Tournaments, a “Watch” tab, and more are on our roadmap. We’ve had a great year, and we look forward to bringing you even more great content in the future."

Yeah, sure. Disbanding core teams in Korea is a great year.

Yeah.. that's what has me worried. The portrait pack for Blizzcon coming after Blizzcon. Lately there's been a string of "Well it was close" stuff from Blizzard. I hope they do well with this.

He want to say best year for SC2 is 2010. So many players, so many team created...etc

These changes don't matter, just rush the Broodwar remastering so we can transition and make RTS popular again.

Anyone have info from the co-op talk?

Warchests? Looks like CS:GO Operations...
Well as Valve reduced the amount of operations drastically in the last 2 years... fitting.

End of 2012? You mean by the time BL Infestor had already whittled down the 5 million WoL accounts to only 200k active?
|
Last question from Q&A was kinda interesting. Temp0 asked about their patch philoshopy
tl;dw:
And Temp0 asks the first good question: "Do you want to shake things up after WCS, or do you want to do it every once in a while?" Answer sounds like they want to do smaller changes throughout the year and design-changing patches like once per year.
Follow-up: Will they revert patches if they turn out to be bad or go through with it all the time? Answer: Watching patch very closely, they will be careful and they will make changes as needed. Showmatches from totalbiscuit will be important. David kim hopes they will find broken stuff there, so that they can fix them before they go live.
Temp0 to the rescue

Did they comment at all on whether the Nova missions have been a success (commercially or otherwise), and whether they are interested in continuing to develop the starcraft universe by means of mission packs?

The most underwhelming blizzcon in a very long time. No new game/expansions announcements. BW HD - nope. SC2 f2p multiplayer - nope. Diablo 4, Warcraft 4 - rofl.

What gives your rights to dictate blizzard when to release games?

I mean, with the starter edition sc2 is already f2p for the most part, just cant play the campaign or ranked.

All those super super super high expectations came only from communities. Blame your community that they confused your mind very succesfully, especially diablo3 community.
|
A huge chunk of the industry is moving away from regular game releases and instead moves on towards games as a (long term) service, and Blizzard is leading in this.
So it's not unreasonable that they don't release WarCraft 4 or Diablo 4 when they have two games that already fill both of their niches.
|
Does anyone know how "soon" the changes will go live? Because they mentioned: " Shortly after blizzcon " and "the upcomming weeks" .
|
lol Now we might have SC BW AI Developer elitists

I think most people speculate that most of the new Diablo 3 content like the Necromancer class and the free new zones that they've added and will add are all likely content from a cancelled expansion pack.
Diablo 4 is likely being made based on Blizzard's recent hiring posts, but it's probably too early in pre-production to be publicly unveiled.

RoS "only" came out in 2014, LOTV came out in 2015 (RTS team who would work on WC4 would only be "free" then, WoW's last expansion just came out in 2016.
The only game that can spit out expansions fast is like Hearthstone & WoW.
I think we're in that era of like 2002-2007, where not many if nothing big and new gets announced besides WoW and Hearthstone expansions.

Feedback especially from unnamed Koreans disagrees, dealing with it was and is (although less than before in my opinion, people learned more to play around it) one of the parts of the game being daunting and "hard" for the entire range of skill levels which drove people away from the game, if it ends up pretty badly especially with Ravagers existing they potentially can do something about it still once a significant set of pros starts to play with it and find what can be abused and what not.

I want another mission set like Nova Covert Ops. I really enjoyed it. The single player of SC2 is always very fun and interesting for me. I stopped playing multi-player a while back, but Nova CovertOps and CoOp has brought me back to the game.
