Description: A continuation of the story of Nova recovering her memories and finding out what happened while she was awol. Who are the defenders of man? The conspiracy against Emperor Valerian takes a dark turn as you and your crew race to stop a vicious zerg attack before thousands of lives are lost.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lowko playthrough of covert Ops mission pack 1:
Nova awakes in a facility and is warned of danger, will she be able to escape?
Nova after escaping requests retrieval and is taken to Borea to talk to Matt Horner. She finds out she's missing several months of memories and was used as a weapon against valerian. Zerg come to the facility. She fends the zerg off and the Defenders of Man come after her. They evacuate to space and find Valerian.
Valerian gives Nova a ship, Reigal, Valerian's intelligence chief, helps with an anti-neural inhibitor to recover memories. Nova goes to Tarsonis city, her place of birth, to find out secret of the defenders of man. She fights and gets her answers. They are using the psi emitter to pull zerg to destroy a world to discredit Valerian.
Just finished chapter 2. Hell this chapter is so good, from game play to plot to Easter eggs :D If Blizzard can keep this high quality, then I can't wait to see more campaigns like this.
I've having some problems with the "Friendly Competition" achievement.. I need to win without killing toss.. but around mid game they attack my own base! Should I just float buildings away, and finish with what I've got, or is there a trick?
What units are supposed to be available on the first mission? My starport can't build any units and my factory only has hellbats/tanks. Since I started with banshees and goliaths I assumed I would be able to build them but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Just let them kill your base. Or float, or whatever. The point is just let them kill your shit. It takes them a good 5-10 minutes to kill everything. You should be able to free all the whales by then if you're time efficient.

Workaround: On the Trouble In Paradise briefing screen, enter the Mission Archives and load the Enemy Intelligence mission briefing screen. It's not necessary to actually launch this mission, you can close this briefing screen and return to the Trouble In Paradise briefing screen. This should grant access to the Banshee and Goliath units.
EDIT: although I did not encounter this bug personally. Wonder what triggered it. Chapter 2 is running quite well for me although my potato laptop is struggling with framerate problem in chapter 1. The only bug I found is the water texture lost (become a scary red blob) if I set the graphic setting to high. I reset the setting to medium and it's fine.
This was really fun to play. None of the above bugs happened on my play through. It did force me to start all over again from Chapter 1 Mission 1, but it was a good refresher of the story. I found a fun little glitch in the 3rd mission of Chapter 2. If you send Nova's hologram units into the subway before its timer runs out they become permanent. Not sure how useful this is overall, but it was neat running around with half a dozen Nova's. The timer must run out while the hologram is in the subway then you can have them come out and be permanent, they also retain the healing ability, so become quite a durable extra.

Thanks. I wound up beating the mission on brutal with just marines/marauders and a lot of nukes (I probably built 10 nuke silos). When I reloaded the mission after beating it from the archives I was able to build the proper units. *shrug*
Man, these missions are honestly incredible! Spending quite a bit of time struggling through them on brutal, and boy is it unforgiving, indeed! I'm blown away by the level design, the art, the difficulty, the easter eggs, the story itself. Blizzard really outdone themselves this time!
Finishing the campaign in normal mode and getting the normal achievements is trivial. The 3 "Hard+" achievements, instead, are a lot harder.
Did it the first mission's hard achievement so far: I think the key are Goliaths and Nuclears: you can't afford losing time, since the mothership timer is really quick. It's important to save the nuclear from the previous "destroy hatcheries" prologue, so you can attack the first target with a pre-emptive nuclear, and then clean up with the few units you have.
In the meantime, build a second ghost academy (even add a third later on, if you can). Pre-emptive nukes are incredible to soften up enemy bases and avoid losing many units. Having 2-3 academies lets you nuke every target, and sometime even the protoss armies attacking your base.
Due to the amount of enemy flying units, Goliaths are kings, with some marines for the left over minerals.
You should leave just a tiny bit of defense for the very light zerg attacks. A permanent cloaked banshee defends against every ground attack. You may also need a bunker for a few muta in the late game.
When the Mothership finally attacks you, do not understimate it: it has a lot of interceptors, and warps in additional units. Wait for it at your base, repair your units meanwhile, leave your SCVs in repair mode for healing, and just as the MS arrives, lauch a nuclear on it to halve its life.
Suggested upgrades:
Nova: Stim pack for healing, rifle or sword (rifle is very good to snip HT before engagements, but sword hits very hard shielded enemies), increase range visor if you opt for rifle.
Units: healing stim pack on marines, permanent cloack on banshee, increased range on Goliaths
i finished 6th mission, graped the bonus "plasma gun", then i back to mission achive to played mission 4th for mastery bonus. i Accidentally hit launch before chosing anything, then in the mission, i have all units and upgrades in last mission (i.e 6th mission) and my nova is equiped the plasma gun 1. the plasma gun is 15 per 0.5s (30 mechanical) range 8 (with +2 range) air and ground. Q skill is ground target nuke 300 damage (400 for armor - 1 hit spore/pylon) for 75 mana, cast about 3/4 range of snipe, you get detected when target a spore. When nova killed a unit (last hit) it leaves where the unit die a plasma pool deal 2(?) per sec. [screenshots in coming] 2. i have all tech/unit raven, liberator in mission 4, and the mission turned out super easy to get mastery achivement. when it finish, i cant choose that plasma gun again, but i have save file 3. i like raven in this campaign cuz the "laser point defense" is replaced with "medic drone" for both bio and mech, together with spider mine, 10-15 ravens is like vulture raynor in coop :3
ravens are broken. Seriously, it doesn't really matter what else you build with your minerals. Mass raven is OP.
edit: reading the comments I didn't even realize you could get more nukes by building ghost academies...I rolled with one through the whole campaign...

Which upgrades do you choose for ravens? Tried mines instead of seeker missile, and found it mildly useful to set up defenses at base (you avoid wasting energy when it is full, by deploying mines). Didn't try the laser turrets.. their ground-only attacks didn't sound like a nice choice.
Did the second map hard achievement too (win without killing any protoss):
- go mass liberators, plus a single armory to get +2/+2 (you can get them before the main base is attacked)
- after first spot west of main base, immediately go in the center to claim the expansion, and get the terrazine spot there. You also get a few (almost) useless mercenary units
- With 4 gases, I've found 2 reactored starports + single armory to be the sweet spot. Build all new depots on the expo, as the main will be killed first
- get the remaining therazine spots clock-wise. Be quick, because the toss will otherwise attack the last one too soon and you will be forced to kill them, losing the achievement
- let the protoss destroy the terrazine spots they attack, don't care about them
- protoss will eventually attack your main, Be sure to remove all defenses to avoid killing them. You can try to mass repair the CC to harvest a bit more gas at the expense of minerals, before losing the main. You should have finished researching 2/2 already. Rebuild some depots at expo
- when the expo is attacked too, float some buildings north to avoid losing, and get the last therazine spots. You should almost be maxed at that point, making the final spots easy enough.
Some therazine spots require to leave some liberators in anti-air mode to kill some infested banshee or overlord drop, dont put all of them in siege mode!
Suggested upgrades:
Nova: Shotgun! It helps big time to kill large amounts of zombies, and let the liberators focus on bigger targets. Also get healing stimpack and range visor
Units: you could opt for the servos on the liberators to quicken their mode change, but it's not really necessary: healing steel is far better to regain complete health after a battle.
As long as you move quickly from spot to spot, this achievement is far easier than the one in the first mission.

Thank you for mentioning this. The mission seemed to be absolutely obscene for giving you literally zero units that shoot up aside from marines that max at +1 attack vs 5 armor Protoss air units including 70-something damage Tempests. As far as I could tell, the only viable strategy under those conditions was building 6-10 missile turrets in a cluster in front of your base, which seems to prevent the warp prisms from deploying. Definitely looked like it was supposed to be all about Goliaths.

You could also nuke them or lure them to the zerg!

I did it with the bug by going mass marine and having Nova and a group of marine outside the base comming from behind to kill the prisons before they could warp in more then one time. Took me so much time; I reloded the same 30 sec part like 15 time before I got it right.
If you get pass the second wave without losing your base it is pretty easy sice you get a big ball of marine. Actually even if it is a bug it is a nice challenge. (Well I say that now 3 hours ago I was looking at 10 marine getting all kill by a single tempess and wanted to trow my computer by the window)
Just finished Mission 4....really enjoyed!! Terrain was nicely done and gameplay was a lot of fun. Little bit of stealth mixed in with some build a base/timer mission. Good time. Looking forward to playing the next two missions!!
I cannot hotkey the attack command. I literally can't 1A because there is no A.
I have the same problem. The attack command of Nova can't be moved to another hotkey. I have it on A but I use a custom hotkey profile A is useless for me.
I did the first mission of the new pack on brutal pretty easily once I remembered you get free nukes for every ghost academy. Nuke the defensive structures & units, hit the shield things, retreat for defense against the Protoss. The attack squads didn't bring observers so Nova really saved the defense since I also had the bug going.
The last mission I finished with around 20 ghost academies. Nuking everything is hilarious.
Did the third hard achievement too. This one was trivial: just get some liberators, bunkers and turrets as defense east and north, and send nova in solo mission. Build 1-2 additional academies, just to speed things up. You may need to kill some buildings too free the space around the target spots (animation won't trigger unless there's no zerg around the circle), just don't kill every building of a single kind to not lose the achievement.
Suggested upgrades:
Nova: range visor, permanent cloak suite, rifle (to snipe overseer and outrange spore crawlers), bomb (the one doing damage, not the stun one, to speed up killing). You can just destroy detectors and go straight to the target spots, then kill what's around them, and step on.
Units: regeneration or quick transformation for liberators. Tanks without the need for tech lab, to reactor them, are nice too.
Just finished Mission 5. That was a fun mission!! Welcome to the Jungle and Outbreak combined with mini-boss fights in-between...what else can a nerd ask for.
The griffin swooping in for the terrazine was a nice touch. Terrain was well-done, but the loading screen for that mission was salivating. I am very impressed with these missions. I like how each terrazine site got progressively more and more difficult to hold. The toss attacks were pretty weak and easy to hold off or intercept. I was banking mad minerals and gas, but by the end had almost none...so I must of been losing a lot of units and not realizing it!! The whale things were a nice touch. I really took my time on this mission...like 50 minutes...was having so much fun with the liberators...such a cool unit!!
On August 05 2016 16:57 Lunchador wrote: Just completed the first two masteries on brutal. Holy @#$%ing crap, now that was so tough and exhilarating! Just one more to go, urk...
Did you record these by any chance? I've seen people do the missions on brutal on youtube, but to also go for the masteries would be interesting to see, especially if anyone finds some good cheesy paths with cloaked banshees like back with some WoL missions.
Here's a couple of screenshots of Nova's hologram army wielding Plasma Rifles. Seems like there are some glitches in the archives. Not sure how I achieved this. It just happened.
Anyone else having issues with the Master Archives? After beating all the missions I went back to work on the mastery achievements and it decided I hadn't obtained the extra tech in Trouble in Paradise. It also forgot that I had beaten mission 6 for some reason.
I have a similar issue, yes. The campaign screen says 5 of 6 missions complete, but the progress text blurb is the one for post-mission-6. If I go to the master archives, mission 6 is not listed, but I can then close the archives screen and be at the mission 6 briefing.
Having completed all achievements for this pack now, I can easily say that it was much easier than the very difficult mission 2 mastery achievement, simply because super regen liberators are monstrously overpowered (especially if Nova is also present to bait with decoy and shotgun packs of light units). I miss stealth gameplay a bit, too. On the other hand, if one was to not just mass liberators, the customizable Ravens are really cool and incredibly strong (those spider mines are a lot more useful than seeker missiles), and it might be interesting to mess around with other unit compositions as well.
I was going for the achivement for completing the last mission without eliminating the zerg unit types. I ended up mass nuking one of the zerg bases just for fun while leaving one structure alive for the achievement. Unfortunately that one remaining structure was placed too close to the mission waypoint and Nova cutscene doesn't activate if there are any zerg units/structures close by, so I had to restart
I am really suprised how much I am enjoying these Nova Mission Packs. The first pack was fun but not too challenging, then this one for me at least is pretty challenging(till you build a ton of nukes then its whatevs). Makes me wonder about pack 3.......hmmmmm...
The 3rd mission is very challenging for me!! The attack waves are brutal and I am having a lot of trouble microing nova to nuke everything while I hold my base. Anyone got any thoughts on how to beat this mission. I am playing on Brutal. Love it!!
Check out my playthrough Hockle, I went overboard with defense to the point where I had so much it was self-sustaining and then got rid of Brood Lords and Nydus Worms first.

defend the base with bunkers(stimmed marines)&tanks(no tech lab) then go for goliaths(increased range)&ravens(spider mines)
nova: high energy suit + ghost visor + sniper rifle + energetic grenade
Alright!! Beat the mission on Brutal. I changed out the sniper rifle for the shotgun, like you had in your video Jay, and wow that thing is awesome!! Really helped in defending the initial attack waves until I got my defenses set-up. I ended up taking the natural expansion just because I was enjoying the mission!!
I watched lowko played this mission too...he is so good at this game. Didn't even have defenses just map-awareness and an insane amount of liberators. He did have to reload a few times, but hey!!
hm was fun, hoped for a bit more solo Nova parts. I like that there is an easy mode even for brutal for when you just want to explode everything.
And I start to like the Taldarim even more. I hated them in WoL, when they were just depicted as mostly silent servants of Amon, so Raynor had some Protoss to beat up. Really like the new Taldarim kind of evil.
I cannot hotkey the attack command. I literally can't 1A because there is no A.
I have the same problem. The attack command of Nova can't be moved to another hotkey. I have it on A but I use a custom hotkey profile A is useless for me.
Anyone have a save at the end of mission pack 2? Blizzard QA apparently missed that people MIGHT not want to replay the whole thing if they have accidentally restarted the campaign once...
Did anyone happen to find the bonus objective (Ionic Force Field) on 8th mission? I couldn't find it. Ended up trying even with the cheat code (TookTheRedPill) to see the entire map at the beginning of the mission. Does it spawn later on or something?

You just have to protect the science facility until the end of the mission. Its in the center right where the first enemies make contact with the defenders at the start of the game. Listen to the voice over during the mission, they will talk about it and then you'll see an icon on the minimap you have to protect.
OK thanks. I was busy playing wrong and losing all bases on my only attempt, only to have unkillable armada of 20 BCs sitting on top of my lifted CC killing like last 500+ units :D I guess I'll have to do it the right way again.

Just marines. And it doesn't even have to be that many of them. It's silly that they are most effective and you shouldn't use better units.
Another thing that I didn't like that if you call down nuke while cloaked the enemy will instantly scan and attack you. Which wasn't a problem, but it's still stupid.
Yeah, that's what I did the first time playing through. Lost all but the top right and middle gorgons or whatever. I eventually set up a bunch of turrets & some bunkers with some marines and had about 15 BCs and would yamato down two of them instantly then slowly kill the other two.
Ended up replaying it to get the achievement, nothing but marines with the occasional turret/bunker which I'd place farther up to slow the xanthos down so my army could rotate. Marines made it a cake walk. Plus, the final form...where it charges up in a straight line for like 10 seconds...you can basically solo that entirely with 1 marine if you want to.
Ended up going for mass liberators to kill Xanthos. Pushed and attacked weakened Xanthos after its second activation. After activating the secret weapon I lured it out and away from the enemy base. I had half the liberators in vs ground mode split up in different sides and the other half in anti air mode. Xanthos always tried to kill the anti air liberator, which made it quite easy to dodge the ability and the rest of the liberators would basically insta kill any reinforcement.

The shield is perfect for nuking. The one that gives you 500 temp health and only takes a max of 10 damage from each hit. I activate it every time I drop a nuke.

I tried replaying it with mass marines. Quite comfortably managed to kill all the enemy bases and Xanthos in 30 minutes. Thanks for the tip! =)
Some achievements are so hard to get. The one where Nova has to kill 333 units. I always get so close but cant beat it. Or there is another one on Night terrors where you must not kill any tal darim units. And a couple more but those are the ones I tried the most and couldnt get them

I've gotten Night Terrors - Friendly Competition a while ago so it might be changed, but you can find a couple of ways to do it. Besides avoiding the protoss going for the devices, the attack wave to your base can be stalled with ebays and repairing scvs to get the acheivement done on hard. On brutal, they send a lot more than on hard and have attack upgrades.
Nova killing 333: Make like 15-20 nuclear silos. You don't even have to saturate or make units, just roam with Nova, and when they start bringing the big waves, nuke each of them. The only vision they have is the mothership, so pretty easy to just stand there and nuke the hell out of every wave from all directions and they can't kill you. Once they converge and start forming in the middle, each nuke is killing 30-40+ units. If this still fails, I can give you an even cheesier strat, but it's a bit more work. Good luck!
wow thanks for the tips guys. Just came home from work and I am going to try those now. I ve been trying to get these 2 achievements for the last 3 nights
Got the 2 achievements! Thanks for the tips. The wall to delay the tal darim wasnt needed cauze I switched Nova's equipement and also made mass liberators and only 2-3 Ravens instead of half half like I used to.
As for the 333 achievement I did it with mass Nukes. I didnt know you could get the achievement without finishing the mission Maybe thats why i couldnt get. I was paying so much attention to preparing my base.
Now there's only 1 left. The one with the 4 minute stealth run. Any tips
Jetpack+stim and whatever makes you faster/survive. For boss use lightsaber sword, there's a window where you 100-0 him real fast before the drones come.
Checkout some videos on youtube if you want to see the fastest route, but as riotjune said, jetpack/stim/sword is the fastest because they all give you speed boosts of some kind and the ability to skip content with the leaps and dashes. You will want the "can detect stealth units" visor before the boss so you can see him, but some videos use mind control to open doors before swapping to detection visor and fighting boss.
Did it in 3:29 with jet pack, stim and sword. Exchanged visors to detection visor before last fight. Can't imagine world record being much faster than 3:10 with perfect use of dash and stim.

That is fast. I did it in 3:37 with the exact same set-up and strategy, and, most importantly, a nice youtube video to watch so you know where the hell to go. First time I did this mission I clocked in at 45 minutes or so.

I assume this means you covered every inch of the map and discovered... everything.
Well, you know, I visited the canals, killed some bad guys, found a stray Thor, taught him to kill some bad guys and repaired his broken hammer, visited the main square and got an ice cream there, killed some bad guys, had a coffee, killed some bad guys, got a sun burn... You know, the usual stuff when going on vacation. Unfortunately I hadn't read the lonely planet issue on Vardona, so missed out on the hidden yoga club. I only learned of that later on.
You can go back and say hello. The benefits of doing so can be used on the following maps. I only discovered the wonders of yoga after completion, but upon returning, I found myself with a newfound way of approaching the problems of life on Vardona.

Just replayed seventh mission to find hidden yoga club! Didn't realize you would also get a new weapon. That weapon would have made it easier killing 333 units on the next mission.
Just finished Nova 100% achievements. Way better than Lotv and Hots imo and only second to Wol because of nostalgia and because of Raynor . Every mission in Nova is unique and has a lot of replayability. Cant say that for Lotv. It seems like totally different people worked for those.
I wish BLizzard made more campaigns. I would pay a lot for a new one. Nova covert ops was such a blast. RIP sc ;(

You better go and have a closer look at the In the emeny's shadow mission one more time. And take your time to explore the map.
I won't beat around the bush. The beaver and crocodiles is an easter Egg in the first part of the mission located to the east close to the end of the first part.
The yoga club is in the second part of the mission. Kind of North West. You need to equip Nova with blink to blink across unpassable terrain. Near the yoga club there's a new weapon for nova.
