Now this is gonna be interesting. Will we see new players breakout thanks to the new gameplay ? or will the old guard hold strong ? ( maybe even some comebacks :o )

This works perfectly for me, my exams finish on the 11th.
Thanks for the info.
|
I hope the fact that there's no English commentary doesn't mean there's no English commentary for the actual tournament.
|
I really hope Byun participates, wrecks everyone, and makes it back in code s. Would be awesome to see our HOTS heroes continue to do well, too
|
Only the winners are seeded into Code S? That sounds very strange in its implications. I would have assumed this tournament would either seed all 32, or the bottom 24 (with top 8 from last season carrying over). But 2 is such a strange number.
Pretty sure this means there have to be other unannounced events as well, to seed the other 14/22/30.
edit: goes without saying that I'm super stoked, of course.
|
Super hyped
I'm so afraid that the maps will put a downer on it though

Pure speculation, but it could be retirements kicking in? If they keep the seeding structure, losing Flash and Pigbaby means that they're down 2 Code A matches, so they might be just shifting the two spots from those straight to Code S
|
Where will it be held? Would like to attend if possible :D
|
|
I hope to see byun. It'll be a shame if he doesn't play as he might legitimately be the best terran right now.
|
This will be the true test of balance of LotV. Really looking forward!
|
I wonder if this is the reason Byun isn't going to HSC. Also because most of this is online could anyone in theory play in it? I assume it has the same restrictions as the GSL qualifiers (masters league and whatnot) but is there anything stopping foreigners from playing? Outside of the need to be in Korea should they make the final

Last-minute flight to Korea gonna be way more expensive than what you get from the prize pool. But State and I think Harstem are in Korea and might play.

finals on christmas. really, GSL?
|
Will there be free VODs available for this and the GSL season?
|
So fucking hyped for this.
|
I pray to heavens that Byun will sign up for this.

Korea does actually but I don't see why that would cause them to change dates, in fact it's a better day since most people will have the day off and be able to watch.
|
Having a preseason tournament is a good idea for a new expansion. Helps players get some polish.
|
Where's the studio? I'm going to be in Korea on the 15th or 16th.

Well one of these is during HSC, so if Harstem is still in Korea now he probably won't be for at least one of them

HYPUUUU
I wish to know more about the seeding into Code S and how the other spots will be filled or if they'll all just be from qualifiers...
|
Wow, don't know what else changed from initial version but I highly approve of this change to being casted by Tastosis!
|
They better not fuck up with the VODs.

Went from no english stream to Tastosis, thanks afreecaTV!

Masters league and up? I always liked the idea that GSL was open and any random silver leaguer could show up...
|
Will Prelims be streamed or will it be another case of "refresh the brackets until something changes?"

Finally! LET'S GO GUYS GSL TIME HYPE!
|
I made a account just so I could say, alive game hype!!
|
|
Tastosis?! The amount of can't wait that I am now is even greater than previous.
|
I'm just watching vods of King of the hill show from GSL Korean casters, and they said the preliminary will not be broadcast and some rounds(or a round) of the main tournament will be online, and they will be broadcast.
|
They should seed more than two people with this, but okay, I'm still hyped
|
|
Dumb question? But do you have to be Master on KR server?? or you can be Master on NA/EU?
|

When there are already so many countless skilled players who play masters and above who will never see the ro32 of a GSL as it is, I think masters league and up is a fine choice.
|
|
Tastosis is back! Look forward to see what they think of the new expansion.

Hello,
I don't know who picked your map pool but using Prion Terraces as one of your 3 maps in a bo3 is a bad idea. It's unplayable PvZ.
It's a map with 6 gold bases...why?

Gsl is only going to have 2 ppl this season. Still potentially the same number of games though. Best of 247 format between the two winners here. The grandest finals.

It's done in a historic run of all maps from every GSL and GSTL season ever. They saw the bo69 and realized the potential in a long running format.

could someone please update the TL calendar with these entries ?

Good, some potential new blood to shake things up!

Two days of qualifiers so I imagine 4 people qualify per group? Or are there 4 groups per day?
Actually given the number of players in the groups it can't really be 4 groups total, so at least 4 per day

State ys playing, best of luck to that manly man

I need to see Byun win the first map so I know that he actually showed up...

such a missed opportunity to not even have offsite casting of these prelims

I think there are 8 groups, 2 playing now, and other 2 later today. The rest tomorrow.

2 from each bracket advance right? so there's no bracket final match? or does the final become the Ro16? cause based off the link a few pages back it looks like there will be 8 groupings to get 16 players

I believe that's correct.
Also, does MKP's group play tomorrow, or "this evening" (KST)? I remember back in the day there was usually a morning and afternoon group so I figured I'd ask.

Is TheStC officially name changed to Bobby? That's his real name next to it and I know he uses "Bobby" to sign up for some online cups. The PlayXP player list also has him listed as Bobby rather than as TheStC

I wonder if brackets will be set up?

Wasn't this supposed to start today? There is nothing in upcoming.

Why?
"Korean commentary will be provided by Park Sang Hyun, Hwang Young Jae, and (P)JYP. English commentary will be provided by Tasteless and Artosis."

Help me out with the format. The people who have won their bracket (i.e. Solar and herO for now. EDIT: And it appears Symbol just won too), are they ready for Code S? Or do they have to win more stuff?

They qualify for a 16 single-elim bracket, winner of that gets Code S

But it's two weeks. So we get two players in Code S off of this? What about the rest?

Well, this is Pre-Season for guaranteed Code S spots. Maybe they'll have a qualifier for Code A or something later. Because Code S isn't looking like it's gonna start this year.

I'm not talking about invites, I'm talking about what other qualifiers there will be, will InnoVation get a golden ticket, etc.
All we know is that this qualifier decides 2/32 seats. That still leaves 30 seats that we know absolutely nothing about.

Pretty hyped for the great zerg players who are through. I'm not sure why you put improved in quotation marks. He went from looking like an amateur player against aLive to beating solid players like Cure and DRG. That's genuine improvement.
Though I'm surprised he beat DRG. At the end of HotS DRG's ZvZ was looking really good, and all I recall about Symbol's ZvZ is that he's on a near-infinite losing streak against Life.

Who said that 30 players are going to be invited ? I'm not talking about invites, I'm talking about what other qualifiers there will be, will InnoVation get a golden ticket, etc. All we know is that this qualifier decides 2/32 seats. That still leaves 30 seats that we know absolutely nothing about. Well don't worry about the 30 players, GSL is going to do fine in 2016. I'm not worried about GSL dude, I'm worried about my sanity. :D I need to know why the hell INnoVation wasn't at this qualifier and what does that mean for his presence in Code S. There's another qualifier next week too, he'll just have to + Show Spoiler +hope he doesn't meet a zerg :O and make it through that one.

Life qualified, yay. And TY. I'm already satisfied.

Damn those ro16+ games will be amazing and they are showing every single one .

Damn, thats a lot of Zerg so far. :D

OK, so the mystery of INno's absence has been explained... or has it? What's up with the dude's priorities?
Is he feeling so sick that he doesn't trust himself to do anything other than stomp some foreigners to some curbs? Skipping out on one out of the two announced qualifiers is a pretty huge deal, assuming as always that he doesn't get a free pass.

Skipping out on one out of the two announced qualifiers is a pretty huge deal, assuming as always that he doesn't get a free pass. He's the only KeSPA player who was allowed to represent his country in NationWars, and none of the other Korean representatives played in this qualifier either (HyuN signed up but didn't show up). So they're taking NationWars seriously.
And skipping out on 1 qualifier isn't that big of a deal. This accounts for 2 of 32 players as you realised. Either they invite the other 30 players (in which case not inviting the champion would be retarded) or they have more competition for the remaining spots. Either way if INnoVation misses Code S it won't be because he skipped on this one.
Not to mention, he's not the only SKT player who didn't sign up.

I guess at least 1 more? I'm actually excited to see what they are doing in zvz. Will every game be 13/12 or 14/14 or will we see macro games?

I wonder why GSL isn't allowing to stream/cast the preliminaries since there is obviously enough interest.

Predictable results, except maybe Symbol. But as a longtime fan of the Nydus King, I'm okay with it. So, GOM is run by Afreeca now, right? I'm wondering if there'll be any (large) cosmetic changes to their broadcasts!

Wow, Zerg is doing REALLY good. I wonder if it is the Ravagers or just the godawful map pool. In any case, we cannot make real balance statements when maps are this wonky and horrible...
I hope this is NOT S1 map pool, or we're in for opening LotV with a ton of repetitive knife fights.

Probably just because almost all of the big names are signed up to these qualifiers. Some of them would already have been locked into Code S if they kept their spots from last season.

The full top 8 bar INnoVation and Classic signed up for this, which they wouldn't need to if they got a seed.

Well it's good practice and gives some money. I don't see why you WOULD NOT play in this.

I mean you don't have to show your special builds if you don't want to. I just really don't see a good reason to not play in this. With that being said if you wanna to a full reset then right now is obviously a good time to do so.

Ah, okay, I thought that this was the qualifiers for GSL season 1. And I was assuming that if he didn't sign up for GSL he wouldn't for SSL. Just worried since there has been no sign of him at all in LOTV and since he's not on a KeSPA team anymore, and he doesn't have Flash to practice with anymore, that he might be sorely under practiced if he does suddenly pop up for GSL or SSL.
Regardless, he's still screwed over (and Soulkey/Parting/Fantasy as well) by being barred from Proleague for 4 more years, and now maybe being barred from all foreign events like Dreamhack, etc. Worried that if we don't see him in GSL or SSL he might be pushed into retirement, as there would be nothing for him to practice for.

But then there's no point in bothering to make a Pre-Season that awards direct seeds, is there? I guess to determine potential viewership but it probably won't be that high. Why would there be no point? That's like saying there's no point to running GSL since you could just have direct qualifiers into Blizzcon? Idk I mean the point is to have a fun competition, right? You win here, you get to be the first qualified for 2016 Code S Season 1, sounds fair to me I mean, why make a Pre-Season that awards a direct Code S seed in basically a complete tournament, and then 2 or 3 weeks later make open qualifiers that award a direct Code S seed for less matches? The players I guess can earn some extra money. Still, seems like a weird choice. In the end, it's not gonna matter if you qualify 1st or last, as long as you qualify.
Also I am now sad there's not been a Hot6ix/Blizzard Cup this year.

To me it looks like they simply wanted to produce some sc2 content before next year. What better way to make players care about it than giving a code s seed for it? So what i think happens: Pre season with two seeds, rest the same as always.

I think they're doing this Pre-season thing to test the new expansion, specially the maps. If there is no clear imbalance with this maps then they can use them again for Code B, A and S. If there is indeed an important level of imbalance, they have enough time to pick or even design different ones. If there run the normal qualifiers directly with an imbalanced map pool they risk having 60% of the players be Zerg

Well, that's good to hear(?). I thought sOs was trying out a new wonky strat that he really wanted to try for some reason.

The morning groups look pretty lackluster imo. But I still wish they had streamed them

Actually, Rogue's father passed away a day before yesterday (http://esports.dailygame.co.kr/view.php?ud=2015121315221328843), and probably many of JA players would have given up the preliminary in order to attend the funeral.

This is the qualifiers for the pre-season I believe. Whoever wins the preseason gets seeded directly into Code S. Trap still have Code A qualifiers to go though.
If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me please.

I would honestly think the latter, i mean every other game is being updated, whilst i know it is an online cup im pretty sure they wouldn't allow them any extra time than anyone else. So i would think it's just a very long series.

Just a curiosity question: During today's first Zest vs Hurricane match, they told each other 'gg / gl'. But I thought it was forbidden to talk ingame except for 'ppp' and 'gg' in GSL. What am I missing?
|
That's an interesting question. Especially since you're only supposed to type gg when you leave the game. I'm not sure if GSL follows the WCS handbook (greeting is okay) or KeSPA rules (only pauses and gg are okay). Honestly Zest might have gotten lucky that Hurricane responded to him for all we know, they didn't do it in game 2.

IIRC GSL doesn't follow KeSPA harsh rules.

The annoying thing is, the only legit info regarding this I found is from 2010 where it was in fact stated that saying anything beside asking for a pause and surrendering could get you disqualified. I have no idea if GSL followed the WCS handbook in 2015 or had their own rules or what.
