The GSL will be running two preseason tournaments, which will seed the winners directly into Code S Season 1.
Registration
December 7 - 11
Eligibility: 12 years + / Masters League and up
Schedule:
Week 1
- Preliminaries: December 13/14 (Online)
- Round of 16: December 15/16 KST 18:30 (Online)
- Quarterfinals: December 17 KST 20:00 (Online)
- Semifinals ~ Final Match: December 18 KST 18:30 (Offline, FreecUP Studio)
Week 2
- Preliminaries: December 20/21 (Online)
- Round of 16: December 23/24 KST 18:30 (Online)
- Quarterfinals: December 25 KST 18:30 (Online)
- Semifinals ~ Final Match: December 26 KST 18:30 (Offline, FreecUP Studio)
Format
- Single Elimination
- Round of 16 ~ Quarterfinals - Bo3
- Semifinals ~ Finals - Bo5
Maps
- Season 4 Map Pool
- Preliminary Matches: Dusk Towers, Ruins of Seras, Prion Terraces
Prize Pool
₩2,000,000 for both weeks.
- 1st - ₩1,000,000 (Code S seed)
- 2nd - ₩500,000
- 3rd/4th - ₩250,000

Now this is gonna be interesting.
Will we see new players breakout thanks to the new gameplay ? or will the old guard hold strong ? ( maybe even some comebacks :o )

I hope the fact that there's no English commentary doesn't mean there's no English commentary for the actual tournament.

I really hope Byun participates, wrecks everyone, and makes it back in code s. Would be awesome to see our HOTS heroes continue to do well, too

Only the winners are seeded into Code S? That sounds very strange in its implications. I would have assumed this tournament would either seed all 32, or the bottom 24 (with top 8 from last season carrying over). But 2 is such a strange number.
Pretty sure this means there have to be other unannounced events as well, to seed the other 14/22/30.
edit: goes without saying that I'm super stoked, of course.

Pure speculation, but it could be retirements kicking in?
If they keep the seeding structure, losing Flash and Pigbaby means that they're down 2 Code A matches, so they might be just shifting the two spots from those straight to Code S

I wonder if this is the reason Byun isn't going to HSC. Also because most of this is online could anyone in theory play in it? I assume it has the same restrictions as the GSL qualifiers (masters league and whatnot) but is there anything stopping foreigners from playing? Outside of the need to be in Korea should they make the final

Last-minute flight to Korea gonna be way more expensive than what you get from the prize pool. But State and I think Harstem are in Korea and might play.
