Hey all Starcraft lovers out there.
We just wanted to shed some light regarding NaNiwa not being in any of groups that were announced for Dreamhack Tours.
Statement from NaNiwa regarding the withdrawal: ”I'm sad to announce that once again i will be withdrawing from yet an event. I am undergoing a very stressful period in my life although I realise alot of fans are dissapointed in me because of this and other poor performances. I will be streaming alot more and practicing alot more because i dont want it to end this way.
Comment from StarNaN: ”I’m very excited to go to Dreamhack Tours since I feel that I’m in good shape at the moment. The full playerlist is stacked with many good players so I’ll have to play my best to go far”.

StarNaN during ESPORTSM this past weekend.
As NaNiwa says he knows that some of you might be disappointed in him not attending. From our side in the management it sure is sad that he will not compete in France but we want to give Johan the time he needs. We rather send another player who feel ready and will enjoy the trip. Also we would like to wish StarNaN best of luck in Tours!
See you all in France!

sad times, but nani probably wants to become really good again before travelling to events best of luck nani! hope you really do stream more often <3

Sad to hear about this; I hope Naniwa feels better soon

Life is often harder than a game of SC2 - and that is saying a lot. Naniwa is the Floyd Mayweather of SC2 - you may hate him but you sure do watch him....and listen to him. He brings a particular type of excitement to the game, a personality that can bring out the best or the worst in himself and others. I hope he gets back into shape and finds peace in his life so we can share it with him.

Please don't make that comparison, especially after the lack of excitement Mayweather brought to his fight vs. Pacquiao (and the fact that he beats his wife). Also, Naniwa isn't even the current champion.
I'd rather just think of Naniwa as Naniwa.
|
Quite true, Mayweather is more like a defensive zerg player abusing the prepatch swarmhosts to the max, sucking away the joy and excitement from starcraft. Mayweather=Firecake?
Damn shame, good luck Naniwa =)

So much for becoming the best foreigner in two weeks lol

So Naniwa is still the current best foreigner in the world, but he has real life shit to deal with. Totally understandable why people think kids like Bunny or Snute is better than him.

complains about 'hacking' in an offline tourny, bitches constantly, thinks hes the best with nothing to back it up, announces several "final" departures from the scene, "sorry i'm stressed. later guys," lol.

I'd rather watch Naniwa's stream than noobRow in public events. Naniwa adds something to the scene unlike some overhyped players. He may be bad mannered at times, but he is a good protoss player to learn from.

Lol not really... Mayweather is wayyy more interesting to watch than swarmhosts ever were.

That comparison doesn't make any sense at all...

I'd say Stephano and Snute are the biggest abusers of Swarm Hosts with Firecake in a distant third. Stephano is 2nd and Snute utilized pre-patch Swarm Hosts the most to win games.

I think this is a great thing, much better than if he had to show up and drone rush or whatever because he wouldn't feel he is up to the level of the competition. It's better for literally everyone - players, organisers, viewers - when tournaments are played only players who feel like playing. Very nice that he decided early enough so that a good replacement is available.

It surely is hard to date destiny's ex girlfriend, i will give him that!

I understand him, I think nani is more comfortable with staying home rather than underperforming.

Don't like him or watch him, and I sure as hell don't listen to him. I also didn't find his games to be entertaining when I used to watch him. But regardless, I hope he doesn't have anything too major going on. It's never good to wish bad things on someone, even if I don't like him.
Hope he's okay, but I'm sure glad that StarNaN is going to DH instead of Nani.

grudge son?

Well, one man's meat is another man's poison. Time for StarNan to eat a little bit of DH home-made recipe.
|
Nani's biggest problem was and is that he folds under the pressure of being considered the best. He'd rather forfeit than disappoint. It's admirable, but I have to wonder if it's really the best for him to isolate himself from the fans.
|
Naniwa played like shit in WCS. He looked terribly out of practice.
I can respect his decision to stay home, practice, and get on top of his game before trying to compete again. Especially because I really do enjoy watching him play.

For anyone wondering why nani is stressed, years of playing ud vs orc will leave you with nightmares for the rest of your life (not kidding). I cry everytime i match grubby or violet on sc2 and im sure nani does too. 300! 300! 300! Atleast Rotterdam had the decency to go farseer.
(for those unfamiliar with wc3 ud vs orc was 27 vs 73% in pro games and nani was a UD.)

He has shown time after time that he can beat the best koreans in tournaments and has been the best foreigner for a long time, He's obviously not in his best shape today, but he got what it takes to be the best.

Why are people so negative towards Naniwa? He is one of the best foreigners ever to play sc2 and his only fault is that he doesn't act like a pre-programmed PR machine for an order of sc2 monks. The "worst" things he did were always when he was forced by someone else into a stupid situation (drone rush, IEM) and he is visibly trying to do better. So what the fuck is the problem with some people?

As for your question, well, there's this strange behavior in the community that players who either balance whine when not at the good timing (see Rain's "terran is BLinfestor"), or always find excuses for losing (see Huk), or display rage/BM behavior in tournaments (see Idra), or insult opponents in game or on twitter (see FireCake), or simply are popular (see Flash, Jaedong, Zest), or simply have a strong personality (PartinG, MC, Stephano) are way more mocked and hated on than other players. NaNiwa cumulating all of the above...

Some people want to see results, Naniwa has arguably been the best foreigner (alongside Stephano) in SC 2 until he left the scene. When he came back people expected him to return to his "old" skillelvel, all they got was a guy that quits tournaments/qualifiers left and right and loses in the tournament(s) he's playing in. If you are a player with doubtful behaviour who wants the support of the community you've got to at least show some skills.

I agree with what you said except for the trivialization of Stephano's "strong personality" lol. Parting and MC are funny and act tough and fake-BM... on the other hand, Stephano's been arrested for being drunk and disruptive, thrown into holding cells, repeatedly double-booked and quit tournaments while they were still going on, tried to secretly sign onto certain teams while he was already contracted by other teams, made extremely inappropriate sexual (rape iirc) comments that he had to apologize for, etc. The reasons why I dislike him have nothing to do with the fact that he's popular or was the best foreigner for quite some time. Fantastic player, but outside of the game he acted like a jerk and was consistently in the limelight for negative drama.

I thought it was pretty impressive he qualified to wcs on his first try, though he skipped first qualifier. Those qualifiers are no cake walk. He no doubt beat a lot of pros which never stopped practicing (though we can't be sure if he practiced before coming back). He recently beat Zanster, Petreus, Demuslim, Nerchio, and Harstem according to Aligulac. There are plenty of top Europeans that would slap him around no doubt, but he's obviously talented.

No wonder Dreamhack is severing ties with the SC2 scene when stuff like this happens.
They were expecting Naniwa and the thousands of eyes he draws and now they're getting some random ladder warrior who literally nobody has ever heard of and who will most likely fail in his first round. Fantastic deal.
Calling it now, the only 'story line' casters are going to repeat over and over about him is that he's the guy who replaced Naniwa.
On a positive note: at least that's good exposure for the replacement guy. Congrats.

Considering the lineup of players attending Dreamhack France, if the replacement of Naniwa is the only thing that draws attention and discussions, that is a bit sad. I like Naniwa, but I am more disappointed by the forfeit of Showtime. Personnaly I care about foreigners beating koreans, not about old fan favorites.
