Dunno if it was superior to others, but with the tempest nerf, I'm not sure it'll be as entertaining as it used to be, if we actually get to a very late game situation...

Well one thing that the groups surely won't have is variety. Most of the groups at least show different matchups. As for PvP itself, I think there used to be some periods when it was reasonably interesting because new things developed and there are also some players that make it so - but for the most time it is just waiting, posturing and thinking if my army isn't accidentally a little bit bigger so that I should engage, interspersed with some warp prism harass which is however moreorless the same each time.
I personally liked oldschool WoL PvP much better - before photon overcharge, there were often games where people fought for every hitpoint on every stalkers for 10 minutes and then someone pulled ahead and won. Sure, it was "one base" but I still don't know what is so exciting about building town halls. It wasn't "one big battle" type of play, at least not in the majority of games where oponents were evenly matched. On the other hand everyone was crazy about Rain's "macro" PvP which was a period that I consider boring to death.
Today PvP usually needs to be silly (basetrade, nonsensical proxy or such stuff) for me to be excited about it.

If Maru doesn't make it out terran is officially a dead race. gg
|
I'm gonna be rooting for HyuN this season. Life's my fallback.
|
they need to make it where ever possible there is one of each race in each group, so clever peice of software . .(which has given me an idea for a coding project . . .noooice), in this case 2 terrans but in diff groups this isok atm, in fact i would have it if 4 or fewer of the race exist in the pool then it is random, otherwise you will expect to see one of each race in the grp, im not going to watch grp d at all now, or kind of have it in the bg which is a shame cos they are really good players and players id root for in tournies. i dont know, there is something about the mirror match up (and then too much of it all day) which i just cant get behind

Not every game goes lategame in pvp, i like me some aggressive blink play etc 2. I don't think Mass colossi vs tempest was any more exciting than colossi vs colossi 3. these guys are arguably 3 of the top 5 protoss players atm, it will be good Other than that, i think tvp is by far the worst matchup in sc2 atm

Group D is crazy and will be very volatile. Others seem quite predictable, but we'll see...

Group A: (T)Maru (P)Hurricane (P)Zest (Z)Leenock 1. Maru: although Maru is not what he used to be, he is still the best Terran in the world and a much better player than Innovation. He has a micro based aggressive style that most players not named Life simply can't stop. The only way he can lose to non-Life opponents is by doing something stupid, which he does sometimes. 2. Zest: What can I say? The best Protoss in the world will make out of his group. He easily outclasses Hurricane and Leenock lol. The GSL and IEM WC winner won't lose to players like Leenock and Hurricane.
Group B: (T)Dream (Z)Soulkey (Z)HyuN (P)Classic 1. Dream will make it out in first place. He has very impressive TvZ that beat Life. The Life that won GSL and a bunch of other tournaments. Dream isn't the best Terran in the world, but he has the best TvZ in the world, hands down. People overrate that Innovation too much. He's washed up now and never even qualified for NSL. I call Dream to make it to the finals again. 2. Classic oh Classic. This group is full of champions except for Dream. Anyways, Soulkey just lost to Creator lol so he won't make it out. There is absolutely no way that Soulkey will beat Dream, who BEAT LIFE and Classic, who is levels above Creator. Hyun looks good because he stomped a bunch of foreigners and foreign Koreans in America. He won't be able to compete against the big boys, like Taeja.
Group C: (Z)Life (Z)ByuL (Z)soO (P)Trap: 1. Life is simply the best player in the world right now. He will not be stopped by any of these players. In fact, none of them have ever won a championship aside from Trap, who won one of the easiest MLG's in SC2 history. Life is the first SC2 bonjwa and has the best achievements out of any SC2 player to date. Nobody from Wings of Liberty or HoTS has ever matched his achievements. Life is the first best SC2 player by far. 2. This was a hard decision to make, but Trap will probably make it out. He is kind of a good player, when compared to soO, who is bad at ZvP and ByuL, who has never been good in individual leagues. If anyone gets lucky though, it'll be soO.
Group D: (P)Stats (P)Dear (P)PartinG (P)herO: 1. Parting: Yes he got completely destroyed and outplayed by Life last GSL final, but he still made it to the finals at least. Parting is a decent player who can win here and there. I think he will cheese his way out of this group. 2. I was gonna pick herO but it's an all Protoss group and Rain isn't here so herO can't win. Dear it is. Stats has no results to back up anything. Dear can relive his old championships. herO will get proxy gated all games, mark my words.
|
Predictions btw :
Maru + Leenock. Dream + Classic. Life + soO. herO + PartinG (seems like the more likely outcome but I wouldn't count Dear and especially Stats out).
|
Any group with Life is a group of death.
|
Oh man all four groups are so hype. Here's my predictions. Going for a little want as well as a little brain. Group A: Maru + Zest Group B: Soulkey + Classic Group C: Life + soO Group D: Stats + herO
I would be okay with ByuL over soO though but the angry zerg loves his GSL runs. And hopefully Stats will proxy his way out of group D, as he seems to do all the time these days, ahead of PartinG
|
After Soulkey being manhandled by Creator i cant see him winning any match in the near future (also losing to bunny and firecake doesnt improve his chances)
|
soO to 4-0 Trap and Life, dominate the quarters and semis, and restore his place as the One True Kong.

KR to EU lag is too big to count the last two. The Creator loss was very uncharacteristic but I think Soulkey will prove everyone wrong.
