People bitching about this are the people who have never and will never subscribe in the first place. Free to watch is supposed to attract new viewers to join the scene not cater to the people who will never earn them the $$ to stay alive in the first place. Be a man and pay up instead of whining about having to give $15 to a company has given you free content (and still does) for YEARS. GOM eXP is kept alive mostly through sponsors and advertising, which then allows the company to sell shares. This decision they made with reducing the stream quality for non-subscribers may possibly have their funding reduced by their sponsors. Or maybe it won't. It is quite clear that GOM's intention is to reduce costs while gambling on how their sponsors will react. As for the "be a man and pay up" comment, too many people make that kind of comment without realizing how self-deluding it is to command strangers on how to live their lives and spend their money.

Wow. I haven't bothered with these forums in months but that was such a massive level of stupidity I had to log in to mock it. You may have been told all your life that you're a very special snowflake but it's time to get over yourself. The law of economics isn't going to make an exception because you feel slighted. If you guys want GOM to join NASL and IPL, just keep right on.

How about having a discussion without belittling someone else?

![]() This has nothing to do with being cheap and not wanting to pay. If you think this kind of bullshit is good for attracting viewers to their "highest level tournament' or the sc2 scene in general, then wake up and stop drinking the kool-aid. This also completely contradicts Blizzard's stated goal of improving the quality of WCS tournaments. Futhermore, the fact that Blizzard hasn't done anything or made any statement about this pretty much tells you they don't really care about their own game. This ain't 2011 anymore where they could get away this shit when sc2 was at its peak. Times have changed and pretty much all of their competition offer HD quality streams for free now. Sc2 is in a decline and having this restrictive barrier to their premiere tournament is just moronic.

If you guys want GOM to join NASL and IPL I didn't want it, but now I really want it so they give room to OGN a more competent organization.

While low quality only sucks, and currently I am living with it as well, it's well worth the $13 to support it.

My guess is that 99% will just instantly close it, instead of thinking "hey, it's a great game and tournament, I don't mind paying to watch it properly". I guess some hardcore fans don't mind paying, but SC2 is on decline and it won't change until LoTV beta (and even that will be just a temporary boost, just as HoTS was, but that's another story) and with that move GOM pretty much eliminates any chances to get new paying customers. P.S. I bet if it was somehow possible, they'd provide super low quality sound for free too. They probably think that only paying customers deserve to hear Tastosis properly.

I'm currently studying at a university so not employed either. And I filtered my streams a lot too, I just choose the ones I watch a ton. No man, you only TRULY LOVE GSL.... This isn't the bigger picture that those trying to guilt trip are hoping you forget about...

I still care enough to keep up with game which is in steady decline since 2011. Hardcore paying fan boys you have to realize that if you loose us, price money, production value and skill pool will decrease in most tournaments. They need view numbers to show their sponsors. We wont be replaced since there is almost no new blood coming into this game. What really makes me sick is silence of figures like Artosis, Tasteless or even big entities like Blizzard. I understand point of view of casting archon, they are invested too much and they never been famous for standing up for community. On the other hand I really respect Totalbiscuit and Apollo. Even Wolf deserve some recognition, he at least try to make his argument instead of total silence from GOM. If somebody argues "support what you love" .. well frankly I don't love this game anymore. I feel greed ruined something possibly great. All I can give you is increased view counter on your streams if I am too tired to do something productive and spread info about tournaments to my friends. Why should I suddenly have to pay for medium quality ? Game is tactically stagnating, there is low change I will be excited in any match, time for Europe is horrendous and there is no foreign hope in the horizon. Arnold Schwarzenegger in his tips for success says "Give something back". That's my main problem with both archon and GOM stance. They got sponsorship money from Blizzard, they got foreign community inviting Korean champions to tournaments to take whole price pools they even have fan boys supporting them for several years. What they give back ? They decrease stream quality.

How about having a discussion without belittling someone else? Because they did NOT BREAK ANY RULES. READ! Goddamnit, READ! If you want a serious discussion then let's discuss how TotalBiscuits pulls more viewers on his LotV tournament than GSL on a stacked day. Let's discuss how everyone here jumps the hate bandwagon even though they have no idea WHY GOM made that decision. Let's discuss how people say "X and Y are how GOM makes money, I know because I'm registered on TeamLiquid". Let's discuss how no one here realizes that what GOM does is not breaking any rule, but people make it look like GOM is an illegal drug ring now. Let's discuss how people say that eSports will never be legitimate even though this practice is perfectly normal on traditional sports. Let alone the fact that one SC2 league does not represent the entirety of eSports. Let's discuss how GOM has used money from other eSports titles to support SC2. Let's discuss, after all these things considered, how this should be more Blizzard's fault for letting this "loophole" kind of thing happening and giving room for someone, whoever that might have been for GOM, to decide to block off free 720p for global viewers. Because I've said all these things, but all I hear back is "They're breaking mah WCS rullz!!"
