Millenium has announced that the Spanish Zerg takes an indefinite break from StarCraft.
After six months in the structure, VortiX has decided to take a break from StarCraft II since the game doesn’t interest him as much anymore. He is however leaving the door open to a comeback in a few months if the passion comes back. VortiX stepping down from StarCraft is a hard blow for both the Spanish and the European scene. In Spain, Juan has been the number one player after LucifroN announced his retirement. His status was not uncontested since he lost to Majestic in the finals of Gamergy season 1 for instance. But season 2 has been the occasion for the Millenium zerg to balance things back to where they always should have been. After two victories in the qualifiers and a clear domination during the offline finals, VortiX showed once and for all that he is the true Spanish king.
He went on to play Heroes of the Storm, both him and Lucifron together with some other guys (I think some of them are Spanish ex-sc2 players too) and their team is pretty good. I would actually be surprised if they aren't top 5 EU team since they are really solid atm.

What else could force SC2 player to switch on MOBA except $$$?

They are actually the best team in EU right now. Completely dominating the European Heroes tournaments. Here's a video of the Grand Final of the RVI that they played vs. mYinsanity (#2 in Europe right now):

No money in Heroes yet man, they're just doing it for fun I think. Plus, no offense to Heroes players, but with Vortix being a full time student and all, I think Heroes might be a little less time consuming for him to stay a top player

HotS is actually pretty fun to play
It is, but it will never give you the same feeling of accomplishment or pride in your skill. Not if you come from Starcraft I think. You won't feel the same drive to improve and push yourself to your limit (since the game will reach it's limit before you). Obviously that's just my opinion .
I'm pretty convinced that if vortix was motivated to practice he could become the best foreigner by a large magin, arguably he already was. Sad to see him lose his passion =/ Hope he comes back for legacy

Why would you want someone to take over your title?
People joke about Liquid being the "retirement team", but it's starting to become true for Mill as well d: It's a really sad news though, he was an inspiring Zerg to look forward to

When I asked happy who was best foreigner zerg on his stream. He said this exact same thing. Although He did say Kane is the future.
I guess playing isn't very useful if your mind tells you that you can't win + not finding joy in playing. So he does what he enjoys and that's clever enough.
I just couldn’t focus at all since it was extremely boring for me to play practice games and I got into the mentality that I couldn’t win the tournaments I attended.
Showing up to tournaments and staying positive about your own abilities over and over again is a skill in itself and it's not for everyone. Hopefully the above doesn't become a problem in Heroes. It's a bit sad to see VortiX take a break since he shows such great games but hey, anything's better than nothing.
Pretty much ever single pro in Europe has been wrecked by this guy on a regular basis at some point or another, we know how much of a monster he can be. His peak skill is high and his match-ups are well rounded - so even if he might not be confident about 1st places once in a while, he will probably return to cause serious damage whenever he feels like it. GL HF VortiX and thx for the games in 2014.
Thanks you VortiX for all the games you play. Thanks for let us cheer you at DreamHack Valencia. Thanks for introduce myself to StarCraft II. Hope we'll see you again ruling the Swarm, being the number one foreigner.
Really sad to see him go. But like Snute said, if your heart isn't in it, you gotta make the call. Vortix, thanks for all the amazing games. Some truly incredible runs and excellent wins over Koreans.
This sucks. A foreigner that was comparable to Stephano as left us. I guess this is why he has never won a WCS...he lost interest in the game. If he had kept that burning SC2 passion alive, he would have at least made top 4 of a tournament that had a bunch of good Koreans in it. Not only was Vortix a top 3 foreigner before his sudden retirement, but he was one of the best players to play SC2. We truly lost a god.

There's a ton of other scenes where you do'nt need to practice as much to be at the top.
I wish you the best Juan, and hope everything goes great with your studies. Perhaps we can see you again in action for LOTV or in another game that attracts your passion!
GG Moreno Duran bros, such a luxury to have you in the spanish scene...

To put it mildly... NOOOOO! Damn it. I really liked having him as a consistant foreigner threat. Very few have achieved his level of play. Arguably none achieved his level of consistency on the past two years.

Boredom.
Just like Vortix said. The game is boring to play and I agree. I stick around for the same reason people watch Nascar, I like the personalities.
Elfi took a break like this. Said he couldn't find motivation to play, and he had no idea when he'd come back, if at all. It lasted one month. So don't just assume this is the end for Vortix. Hiatus and retirement mean two very different things.

is there esport in HOST ? I can't recall much.
quite alot mini tournaments around in Heroes. But hard to catch them if you are not actively looking. Khaldor does alot of Heroes tournament content. And seeing the brother play together. Damn Sc2 needs 2v2 / 3v3 xD
Sad to see such a great name go, I have a lot of fond memories of him beating MMA and jjakji and other players in fantastic series. Good luck to VortiX!
Sad news, but kind of expected. It has been a long and succesful journey for Juan in SC2 and I think this is a good decision overall. It's sad to see him go (like with LucifroN), but money is not everything and I know they'll always seek for more inside their minds when it comes to develop their enormous skills while having fun together.
About his eventual 'downfall' because of his lack of motivation, I've followed VortiX since he did his first steps in WC3 and he never really cared so much about loving the game he played, being motivated or trying his best with practise regimes, and I always have thought that wasn't a problem at all for him, being in fact a strength that enabled him to not feel much pressure, because then his overwhelming skills were free to work within the game. Any games the Moreno Duran brothers play become a part of them, it's beyond their choice, they will become frikin good players and any words or complains won't matter, because their capabilities and hunger to be the best will overcome everything.

I've been out of the SC2 scene for a long time now (2 years pretty much, still watch some tourney's) and this was essentially what LucifroN would do in 2011/2012. Go inactive for months at a time due to motivation and Uni studies, then come back and stomp everyone whenever he felt like it. They are a seriously talented family the Moreno Durán boys no doubt about that

It's been in closed alpha for the longest time. Though they've now released an open beta date (mid jan). So I guess the competition scenme will start expanding.
This end of year 2014 is so painful for me. Almost all my favorite players retire or teams disband. VortiX - i wish you all best, i was a true fan of yours.
Now Happy is the only foreign man i have left now to really cheer for with my heart (besides my hometown heroes tlo and lambo).
Being Spanish with the same age as him, I find it very reasonable. He probably wants to focus on his studies and finish it this year, because he is probably in the last year of his studies. Social situation in Spain is rough and he probably wants to get his doploma as soon as posible. Being a progamer, with some experience and contacts abroad and with a degree in computer science..... Its prioritary

moba people are interested in it. It kinda turns into a "take a break from your moba" game. And it seems to make it hard to play other dota style games again once you played heroes for to long. But the sample size is to small to assume that is how they want to make Heroes take over the scene. Which is overall the reason for it being under the radar And as you can see from this thread, people with interest in Sc2 don't know much about Heroes either :p
