Not sure if this sarcasm, but league's grand finals was on ESPN3 as well.

Hopefully this brings people to sc2 and not just hearthstone/wow. Well the good news is WoW isn't particularly exciting to watch for most people and the ones who do watch it will have already played it, so mission been accomplished. Hearthstone has as much curb appeal to a casual audience as your neighborhood crackhouse does, because who the fuck wants to watch cards fight each other? You have to keep in mind, people like to watch stupid things. When WoW had even more players, they would get maybe 30k viewers(except for blizzcon maybe), when it was an established eSport. Now the playerbase is reduced and eSport in WoW is waaay less consistent(it's only really a tournament at blizzcon, that is it). It has never been exciting as an eSport, and never will be =( Before I got addicted to TL when WoL came out, I was compulsively on Arenajunkies for the WoW arena PvP scene. I think there used to be WoW arena 3v3 at IEM, WCG, and MLG, besides just Blizzcon. The games themselves were/are a bit of a clusterfuck, but the storylines were pretty fun to follow, and I have good memories of the tournament LRs, blogs, forums, and drama, though overall it was more underdeveloped, immature, and drama-filled than the SC scene. Hearthstone is a much better eSport viewer experience, and being F2P I'd expect that game to get the most bump from ESPN coverage out of the three. Even so, ESPN got plenty of negative tweets from traditional sports fans when it showed TI4, and I'd imagine the same thing will happen now.

So hopefully this will be SC2's chance to pull in a little spotlight. People love watching Poker, HS casts remind me quite a bit of the mind-game / predictive parts of Poker events on TV so I don't see why not? Besides, people have always watched Magic on Twitch or on TV (when it was on TV that is) and as others have mentioned, HS is probably the #2 game streamed on Twitch now anyways.

Well, Hearthstone streams tend to get like 50k viewers, so a lot of people do apparently :/ On November 07 2014 14:45 OtherWorld wrote: I don't know much about ESPN3, is this a 'real' TV channel or an Internet-only channel that is owned by ESPN? Also isn't it the channel that broadcasted part of TI4? Good news anyway (: It's a satellite TV thing I think. And ya, TI4 was on it, so apparently that did well enough that they're willing to try other games. I guess I should be clear on what I meant by a casual audience on a sports station, I mean older teens into young adults. I think Hearthstone's audience is right up there with the Minecraft youtube audience (kids). On the other side of things, didn't Sundance mention maybe getting MLG on ESPN 3 oh so many years ago There's your problem right there. You can't use your own perspective and apply it to a crowd. After all, professional poker is popular, no?
