If you keep repeating different parts of the sound clip, then the theme becomes more clear (to me at least):
High pitched noise, similar to a laser/ringing of metal.
Followed by a clink/clang of metal, most similar to metal on metal.
Followed by a sound similar to the extension of a boom (reminds me of a vertical shift in the boom of my dad's CNC milling machine when it raises up or down; this is a pneumatic or hydraulic noise)
Followed what is the most peculiar part which I take to be firing of weapon.
In summary, I think this is the reloading sequence of a weapon firing, and if this sound was played in a continuous loop it would be evident. However, the end of the sound seems to be fading and is harder to make out from the beginning of the clip.
Super stoked for Blizzcon! Woo
It almost sounds like mechanical gears whirring then thudding into the the rock/ground or exploding.
I'm guessing a new transforming unit, or a new mine/something that latches on?
If you listen, it's like a suppressed rifle or electromagnet type pulse in the beginning, followed by a thunk and whirring. Could be a limpet mine type device latching on to it's target, then detonating. Or a large rotary weapon loading and firing, like a new siege type weapon or unit.

Well in HOTS alpha they were basically removing the Thor from HOTS, and replace it with a 1 of a kind Odin and a new AA mech unit.
So removing box art units, seems definetely doable for Blizzard.

Could that robot be...a reaver?!?!?!

Yeah but thats my point; they planned to remove the thor only to introduce the odin so they could still argue that technically, the unit is still in the game(it used the same skin only bigger AFAIK).
But as I said, can't find the freaking video anyway :[

I was meaning that they added something and removed it. Nothing in written in stone while in alpha/beta stages. Well in beta yeah, but once it made it into the game they won't remove it. Remember how Browder once said they would never remove colossi because they were depicted on the wings of liberty box art somewhere? Thats the stuff we're dealing with... We might see ideas being thrown in and then scratched again, but absolutely never will we see anything that already was in WoL/HotS be removed by Blizz. Please link me to it, i have been having a shit week and i need a good excuse to kill myself. + Show Spoiler + j/k obviously, but i'm very interested on that. Specially with such as shit unit like the colossus, which has proved to just not work at all under a bunch of different roles (Starbow development).
Lately i have also been considering what will i do if LotV does not bring anything to the table, I mean i have invested more time into SC2 than a great majority of those that post in these forums, and if LotV does not deliver, what will i do? All that time becomes wasted? Just be happy Blizzard's policy wasn't: "if you can build it in the campaign it has to be in the multiplayer".
To be honest i really wanted campaign units in multiplayer :'(

As for units, i have a feeling they will only be available for singleplayer and not multiplayer. I remember them saying they won't make any more adds to multiplayer. I hope that's not true tho, as multiplayer needs revitalization from my pov. LotV multiplayer is 100% having new units. In fact, it's highly likely they'll change a lot more than just putting in new units. It is highly likely? I never got that impression from them tbh, why did you? He's probably referring to things like the Ultralisk change and some passive changes here and there. I highly doubt we will see anything revolutionary like the removal of a unit or a significant change to one that is not just a balance change.
I'm pretty sure they've mentioned already working on redesigning the Swarmhost but that it's not something that will be patched but have to be in lotv so hopefully that's still something they are considering implementing. And I would be really surprised if we didn't 1 new unit per race.
I'm equally interested in seeing if they have done anything to the aging engine, especially multi threaded performance so the game doesn't drop to 30-45fps in late-game on the most beastly of computers.

Well redesigning the swarm host can only change "so much"; it will not create the revolution some people seem to want.
And yeah they might add more units to the game but we've seen how much that actually brings in terms of stale gameplay.

What I'm most hyped about is the whole process from alpha to release date, it's really funny to watch videos like the 2011 presentation of HOTS with quotes like "The Oracle is veeery worker friendly, no workers will ever be harmed by the Oracle. There are 55 ways to lose workers in Starcraft II, but thankfully the Oracle will not be one of them..." with the end result being the complete opposite...
New Protoss Units Blizzcon 2011
Something to consider is that WoL was in a way worse state than HoTS is right now, so the new units and modifications' priority was more of a "quick fix" than to really expand gameplay and even then it happened to some extent.
Nowadays HoTS might feel a little bit stale but is way more balanced and it's more enjoyable to watch, so I'm hoping the new units priority now is to expand gameplay and maybe fix a couple of things that are wrong with the current expansion.
Can't wait to see what Blizzard has prepared for us. :D

Sounds like Corruptors are now able to transform into something suicidal :D
That's what I'm thinking ATM - Sounds like a corruptor-like unit and sounds like a kamikaze of some sort.. So I guess those able to transform into something else but BroodLords and being suicidal - at least it sounded that way to me haha , curious to see how way off I was though
As for the Protoss - I'd really hope them make the race work without the Colossus, have some sort of a different unit - say something like a AoE Trapper, but still not being the Colossus cause it makes the whole race being a-move and neglecting the micro - not cause of their a-move nature, but cause they outrange most of stuff and the goal in fights is being "save the colossus" even with the cost of no micro at all

I actually thought it was the Widow Mine burrowing in a cinematic. But that's probably not Blizzcon worthy.

Is there maybe a different way to listen to the soundfile? Soundcloud refuses to open it for me cause Im still running an old browser on an obsolete OS.

really glad that scvs will get deadspace 3 like bolt guns!

Removals and (huge) modifications to units and the overall game, please. Removals ... you remember the uproar when Blizzard announced the carrier removal? That's because the Broodwar Carrier is one of the best designed units to ever appear in an RTS. We want Blizzard to make it worthwhile...which they still haven't done . I think folks would mostly be ok with removing less iconic units: Swarm Hosts, Marauders, Sentries or whatever.
|
I'd like for Blizz to axe the Colossus - it's ok it's Iconic, fits the Protoss agenda well, but it makes the deathball game.. So - give us some air incinerators such as Voidrays but that are anti-ground only and do the AoE
Sentries however would probably stay in the game - Zerg has far too strong production for the Protoss to not have the Sentry IMO.. I mean even if it would be a new unit instead of the Sentry - it would still have to have that same CC role the Sentry does, so - IDK..
For Terran I'd like to have a disabler unit as opposed to more guns, perhaps a mini BC that doesn't deal damage, but prevents opponent units from doing it - then perhaps things like Colossus could stay in the game and still not snowball..
Regardless - it's better to have something that is good, is versatile, but doesn't snowball when in high numbers (as opposed to the Raven), and then have the WM-type of unit given to the Protoss now that the Colossus would be gone
Zerg I'm most torn about - surely scrap the swarmhost, but I think that Zerg's worst designed unit is in fact the Roach.. Would rather not have Roaches in this, and think they'd need some "invasional" backdoor - such as Corruptors being able to carry spines/spores and drop them at a location, or things like that similar
Just a few "self-preference" thoughts
I'm excited to see what do they have in store though:D

Blizzard has always wanted to keep the # of units low. Due to their "easy to learn - difficult to master" philosophy. It's going to be interesting to see how many units we end up with in multiplayer when LotV comes out.
