SK Telecom T1 is set to part ways with Rain, PartinG, and Fantasy. According to press materials from SK Telecom, the contracts of the players will end on the 30th of this month. The three players declined to re-sign with SK Telecom.
Rain expressed a desire to compete on a foreign team; Fantasy also said he was looking for new experiences.
DailyEsports also conducted an interview with PartinG about his motivations for leaving SK Telecom T1: " I miss the passion from the foreign fans who used to cheer for me."

Maybe even the top tier players feel it's too crowded. I wouldn't blame them.
The only explanation I can think of is salary disputes. Which brings up the question of what Fantasy was thinking. Rain and Parting, they may very well have demanded more money than SKT was willing to give them.
i think that it's those players who want to play out of korea? i'm guessing they'll have to sign with euro teams, get euro visas and compete in the euro scene? i'm guessing? speculation? we need more information this is nuts lawl
(personally i hope they join foreign teams and wreck the foreign scene againà

I can understand Parting if so is the case but Rain was rock solid as the #1 SKT-choice.

Hey guys, I posted this in the LR thread but feels like I should probably post it here too:
Quick translation:
SKT1 parts with Rain, Parting and Fantasy
SKT1 has revealed through a press release that they have released Rain, Parting and Fantasy, who were previously pillars of their team.
Fantasy, who debuted in 2007, stated that he wanted to have a wider range of experiences and face new challenges and decided not to re-sign with the team. Similarly, Rain expressed his desire to experience life overseas as a player and decided not to re-sigh. Parting, who joined the team last year, also expressed similar desires of wanting to join a foreign team, and decided not to re-sign with SKT1
SKT Head Office stated "We want to thank these players who showed top quality play during their long time at SKT1, and we will be cheering for them in future tournaments."

Yeah, I'm not really worried about SKT, they still got 4 strong players and overall a good bench.

I wonder what the reason could be? Rain being the biggest shocker, I mean certainly SKT had enough money to retain him? What happened during negotiations?
Guess Bogus to SKT now that he has returned from foreign team.
This is really mistirious. I mean Rain is doing just soooo well atm, i can't see any good reasson except the non-particitipation in foreing tournaments from SKT so far, so i guess he wants to play at some world wide tournies.
Liquid is going for the epic move of the year. They come to an agreement with DeadPixels.
Thet sign Innovation, Rain, Parting, Fantasy, Taeja becomes plYer/coach, they open a teamhouse in Korea and all of a sudden are THE topdog in the scene. Makes sense!
Parting doesn't seem like a Liquid player. He's more of an EG type. On the other hand, Rain would be a perfect fit on Liquid. As for Fantasy, well Taeja is retiring at the end of the year so...

How ironic it would be if more Koreans than ever leave for WCS EU and AM, completely backfiring the region-lock idea.
Region lock forces people without visas to stay in Korea. Makes it more competitive, thus enticing players who can get visas to exit. Cyclic backfiring?
The three players declined to re-sign with SK Telecom.
Parting and Rain are probably the two best paid players on SKT, even Fanta might be well paid considering his accomplishments, seniority and wasn't he captain too? Parting is on apparently $66K/year, rain probably similar, maybe SKT were like we'll offer you two-thirds that next season and they're like gtfo.
If the last four years of sc2 have taught us one thing, it's that if a team's best players decide to leave all at the same time, the boat is listing. Badly.

The only original T1 left is soO This doesnt affect T1's strength much though, they are gonna PigBaby & Bogus and finish top2 next PL with ease. The only problem is whos gonna fill Rain's ace vacancy
Damn. SKT1 just got.. ... well, as big of a deal as this is, they're skt1 and can grab whoever they want. thinking innovation since he wants a kespa home and is of the caliber
MVP.Rain gogo make it happen Choya :3 MVP is only missing a Protoss of decent substance in their roster, they have decent enough Terran and good Zergs, just need that muscle toss.
But please Rain stay in Pro League. However pretty sure one of PartinG/Rain will be on Jin Air next season.

The only way a foreign team picks Rain up is if they can offer a really good contract. EG and Liquid are the only two teams I can think of that could create a contract that would entice Rain.

Acer could, but I doubt they'll pick up any Protoss.
Yeah PartinG remembers what it's like to play in foreign tournaments and surely talked the other into it. (cause you know... they probably asked : "How is it like outside Korea ?" and PartinG looked at them and said : "Easy").
PartinG won a lot outside of Korea and it seems to suit him. I wouldn't blame him to go out there again.
I once made a grave error in referring to SKT1 as the Real Madrid of the Starcraft world. What I did not recognize was that they were in fact the Portsmouth of Starcraft...minus the trophy.
To use another football analogy, imagine if you can that Real Madrid just decided to suddenly release Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Iker Casillas. But we're alright guys. Really.
I saw Parting's twitter message and was wondering what it said then I come to TL to see this?!? I know everyone speculated about Parting and Fantasy already but Rain?! D:
Kind of understandable from Partings point of view, he finally wants to win vs a KT player again. But i never saw Rain coming :o And Fantasy... sad to see him go, but not unexpected considering the discussions about him leaving

it's more like that a team like Real Madrid is playing in a league of lower prestige,
like if real madrid is playing in russia (random country, no hate on russians lol), good team, good money, bad environment
korea need to make a step forward in order to keep their sustainability, its a fact that korea is not anymore the mecca of sc2
they need more money in their system (more tournaments and so on)
$0$ won more in a single tournament that the last proleague winner team, oh c'mon!
Wow, I kind of expected PartinG to go after the twitter name change, but Rain?
A big section of SKT's recent trophy cabinet just left... I hope they can pick up a solid Protoss/Terran, but I'm glad my boiz Dark, soO and Soulkey are still there.

They refused to resign a contract, no release happened. And it's fine, I imagine SKT will just throw more money around and get new players (SKT.Innovation pretty much confirmed now)
Rain and Parting should just go to Samsung. Still get the KeSPA practice style, get to play in PL and Samsung is much more liberal of letting their players go to foreign tournaments.
Oh no, this is sad news. Now only soO and Paralyze remain from the old SKT.
I understand that Fantasy is leaving since he didn´t get a lot of playing time. If he doesn´t find a nice team he could even switch back to broodwar, which is kind of recovering.
But Rain and Parting looked pretty solid and were fielded regularly. I hope they stay in Proleague at least. Well, TL would be nice as well

with how parting wants foreign fans to cheer him and visit foreign tournaments more often, it just seems like victor needs to call and tell him that the money spot opens up on liquid.
if they then get DRG aswell all is well in the world again.
Now i'm no longer a Rain fan. Not because I dislike his choice to depart, but because I can't bear to see on of the greats, one of the best to play the game be reduced to challenger league or Code A fodder. Not a single KeSPA elephant managed to pull off the level of success they had in Korea when on foreign teams. Even players like the robot terran, the double royal roader came back because of terrible skill drops. Hoping that no foreign team manages to get his interest and he just walks back to KeSPA.
Well fuck, I never in a million years expected Rain to leave SKT1. Rain is one of those you forever associate with his former team, just like MarineKing with Prime, Mvp with IM and DRG with MVP. Good luck to all of them, they are some of my favorite players, they are very skilled and it would be a shame to see their talents go to waste.

Wow, I really didn't expect Rain to leave SKT, he was one of their strongest players and seemed to be quite well in the team. I guess SKT will be still fine but I will miss him in Proleague a bit.
But on a second thought, if you look at the videos on their channel and Proleague broadcasts, Rain often hangs out with PartinG and they're both fun and outgoing personalities (the rest of the team is cool too but seems a bit more quiet), so maybe they have similar reasons, maybe as PartinG said they really just want to have fun. And with Proleague and GSL taking most of their time, they can't really go to all those international events.
And who knows, maybe Kespa will make up their mind and allow a foreign team to compete which will happen to have players like PartinG and Rain
As to what team will sign them, Acer looks good currently and they seem to have fun atmosphere, so I guess it would suit them. Evil Geniuses would be a good choice as well I guess, some great teammates for Jaedong, who's apparently getting better again since he just won WEC. mYinsanity sounds good too but I'm not sure how it looks on the inside. Team Liquid is always nice but didn't someone say that they prefer to sign like up and rising players, not already stars? Anyway, I kinda hope they'll end up in the same team because I think they get along quite well.
I wonder what will happen with Fantasy. He didn't seem to feel very well in the team, he looked very shy and all but maybe that's just an impression.
Super wild guess: they go to ROOT. Parting is kinda friends with CatZ so maybe they're in talks already... CatZ what the hell are you selling to this guys?!?

Yes I know, because only Jaedong (and sometime HuK) are bringing moneys to EG. Suppy, Xenocider, ThorZain and Demuslim are just a waste of money for EG, it's about 2 years that they don't have decent results. But if EG signs some top koreans it will be a good investiment for them
Since 2 years ago Sc2 wasn't worth for EG because their players suck
I don't really know if its good for Top Koreans to switch to a foreign team. Foreign Teams don't have the same training schedule and training area as in Korea.

SKT still has plenty of players like Classic, soO, and Soulkey for instance
Plus, there are a lot of free agents around. SC2 felt like having a resurgence lately, I wouldn't go for #dedgaem just because players are not extending their contracts. Fantasy might probably retire and wasn't fielded for ages, PartinG might just want to attend more than "just" proleague since he already had a sweet taste of foreign fandom. Especially since SKT still got soO, Soulkey and Classic, combined with Innovation being a free agent and that certain list that still includes some players that are at least on the edge of relevancy/significance - I don't think they'll disband.

How do you know? I heard several times that they (EG) are focusing to have some NA players (thats why IdrA, HuK, Incontrol, Suppy etc). A EG team without them is very unlikely, but without EU players is possible. ANd you dont know what EG sponsors want (someone said Monster Energy doesnt care about results, only players with attraction (Stephano!) to community.
so, i guess afreeca and bw would be the one thing that everyone expects from Fantasy, however, in that one interview, bisu claimed that fantasy still worked hard in sc2. dunno

Acer Rain may happen, if Acer is looking for someone to replace INnoVation.
Some said Acer PartinG but I don't think PartinG can meet Acer's very high expectation. Look at what Acer accomplished in the latest two years. They sponsored 3 ATC and won 2 of them, they performed very actively to attract community attentions (just like Waxangel said, F*** Acer. :D), and they successfully replaced EG to become Liquid's new rivalry and one of the best foreign teams in the world. It makes me feel that what Acer desires is to become another TL, an influential leader, not just a regular team. Losing INnoVation will not make them give up that ambition.
And by far Rain is the perfect candidate for Acer. Very stable for a long time, very solid in team league, the favorite in any top-tier tournament, and has great reputation and fan base in the foreign community. Also he has the potential to be a good leader, which will also be important when considering that MMA has to retire the next year.

Sorry but last time I bet my money on DeMusliM he proceeded to lose against someone named "MarineLord" at DH or sth. 0-2... I really like Ben, but as a player I have to admit I've given up on him long time ago.
Rain leaving is surprising but not Parting and Fantasy. Parting can get easy money from foreign tournaments and Fantasy has been rumoured to be retiring for such a long time prior to PL finals. Fantasy should go back BW like bisu. Read from somewhere bisu is making like 20k a month from streaming afreeca or some shit.
yes, Bisu is making ridiculous bank on Afreeca and streams on a daily basis. Imagine if Fantasy starts streaming, I'm sure he'll make more than what he was making on SKT in SCII.
MK, EG Parting sounds very good. Haven't heard many waves from that team in a long time since they booted Idra, though Huk has been doing much better recently.
I wonder who will have a larger salary after these transfers. Top of the top notch Rain. The angel himself? Or will it be our fallen angel. Soul-train Devil Parting?
To be honest the rationales given in the article smell like bullshit, especially Fantasy who I'm sure would've seen a huge salary cut if he stayed on SKT. But I am shocked about Rain.
Wouldn't be scared of SKT1 having financial issues or the team having internal problems. Just seems like the case of the three players desiring to look beyond Korea and join a foreign team for the experience.
HAHAAH Im loving this.. SKT fans were already talkin shit about how they were going to be adding Bogus to their line up and instead they lose the very face of SKT along with two of their best three players. RIP SKT.

Maybe Rain and PartinG looked over at MC and Hyunn sitting at the top two WCS rankings (and earning lots of prize money) and then realized that it doesn't make sense to stay in Korea where only the top player gets significant tournament money and you have to compete with the best of the best just to survive the round of 16. PartinG was one win away from the round of 8 after beating Maru 2-1 and going 1-1 with Innovation. That's a pretty crazy group for the round of 16.
Would be so happy if Fantasy were like "fuck it, this game clearly isn't for me" went on to play Love.tv S3 and win the 30k!
I find Fantasy's story to be so sad. The last 4-5 months of televised BW he was without a question THE best player, better than Flash and although he bombed out in the Tving OSL finals he would have clearly enjoyed much success if SC2 switch hadn't happened.

Jangbi was pretty much the undisputed numero uno at the tail end of BW. Fantasy was definitely the second best though. Not sure why he's stuck with Sc2 for so long, even though his results have been, at best, mediocre. I'd love to see him back in BW at this point.
sick news today, didtn expect rain to leave or parting. i thought fanta may retiere after this PL season. i dont know who they will pick as an replacement but MK.SKT1 would blow my mind. ggl to all of these players. i feel parting and rain will find a team asap. SK or Acer are is my gues but well see. sad that these players most likely wont play in the next Proleague season.
All those guys must have a new team already right? It would be pretty stupid to choose not having a great contract with a Korean team in the hope some foreign team picks you up ?

Are you shitting me. Winning the finals doesn't mean Jangbi was better. Jangbi was a good player, but he was not nearly as good as Fantasy. Fantasy choked in the finals. Jangbi in reality should have lost versus Zero in the semifinals, but Zero choked to...

Jangbi was good, but he in all truth was very lucky to make it to the finals of the last OSL and actually win it. Zero had to choke, Fantasy had to choke, fine he won, it still doesn't make him the best. It's really easy to look at who won a certain finals and just bend the narrative to "he was the best player" when there were other factors in play and also I'm not saying that Jangbi won by luck in the Tving finals, he played better than Fantasy, but that's because Fantasy choked and didn't play like he had throughout 2012.

Boy it is a buyers market for players right now! GL to everyone looking for a team, but when I see so many top players looking for foreign teams it makes me worried that this is the perfect breeding ground for scammers and liars. Hope all these guys have their wits about them and are careful.
Just a curious question for any Korean out there - lets pretend that the 8.000 USD/month for Parting is true. How big salary is this for a Korean citizen? For a Czech people these money are huge.
Thanks!
Edit: I just want to know how big pile of money they could save. because they can really be about some fame and glory and not about money, since they can have some high numbers on accounts. Considering the regime and how much time they have to spend their $$$
Well, I'm sorry, but this might be my fault. After all these years as SKT1 fan, I somehow realized that I don't have much passion for the team anymore (Boxer and Bisu not with team anymore, Fanta not doing well). Even in last proleague finals, I cheered for KT, especially Flash.
Yesterday, I felt it is time to switch my favourite team in my TL profile to KT. Today I wake up and this happens. Coincidence

Yeah, unlike Fantasy Jangbi doesn't choke in games where it really matters, hence he is the better player.
Also, I don't Fantasy really choked in the last finals. It looked more like Jangbi dismantling him with well prepared builds.
At first I was sad and felt upset, but honestly this is great for foreign Starcraft 2. With so many players going abroad it's going to make international tournaments even more exciting. However, for the first time in 6 years (2008 when Bisu joined SKT) I must consider if I will remain an SKT fan when the staff and players are nearly completely new or find a new team with players that I'm passionate about.

I think this is partly SKT's fault for not sending their players overseas more. Proleague was Bo5 for most of the year and they had 7 players in Code S. They should've easily been able to send 2 players to foreign tournaments.
I would find it amusing if Blizzard's region lock backfires. All the mediocre Koreans go back to Korea. They will be replaced by better Koreans who foreign teams are willing to sponsor visas for.

What are you talking about?! Koreans are going for ez foreign money! They're bad for everyone! We mùst banish them from esports forever! They're terking foreigner jerbs!
/sarcasm
Actually I totally agree with this, I hope all the Korean talent goes to the foreign teams and then they continue to wreck the international scene.
Liquid needs to pick one these guys up, if possible. I'm guessing Nazgul has refrained from hiring new players for a while now since he knew this opportunity would arise. Nazgul is actually so smart.
By the way, watching Fantasy stream, he doesn't seem like the kind of Terran that would float 1000 minerals and 500 gas during fights. He's really improved compared to early in his SC2 career, no?
Coupled with the WCS changes this seems like a bad choice. Or maybe they just wanna play "smaller" foreign tournaments like Dreamhack etc and prefer it over playing in Proleague.
Still too many free agents. I do think they'll be picked up, but it might need a new team. Gogo someone rich? :D

Always rooted against SKT from the BW days, but they have always provided quite the entertainment. Especially Fantasy who I was hoping would rise to relevance in SC2 like the days of old. I'm sure SKT will reload and still be quite formidable going forward but it will be different. The subtraction of Fantasy (who never played) and PartinG shouldn't be too bad, but Rain was their leader and Ace player. Should be interesting to see who between Soulkey and SoO steps up to become their new face (guessing the latter). Hope all 3 enjoy their new adventures and I will miss rooting against them and the Goliath that is SKT in Proleague. Excited to see them in overseas tournaments and competing all over the world!

well yes, they are, no one knows but being out of SKT giving the rumour a higher possibility of happening. Other thing is that we are getting terrans who have never streamed on afreeca with 100 wins in PL. Fantasy and leta are the only two that come to mind considering other options that aren't possible (aka no flash for ex lol). Leta obviously more likely because of his current position but there's still fantasy as a possibility.

I'm sure the Acer management will think it was a fantastic investment when they are raiding the carbage bins outside the local supermarket for recyclable cans.
At this point it seems rather obvious that money wasn't the sole motive. My guess is that the management had a too tight a grip on these players limiting their freedom as a player and as a person.

I agree. They seemed to be really good friends even before Parting moved to SKT, so I'd imagine Rain wants to move with parting to a new team (which might make it a lot more expensive for a team wanting to pick either one up.)
At any rate I see them both staying in the same team house wherever they go.

Really the end of a decade. Fantasy carried boxers and iloveoovs torch to the highest pillars of starcraft bw play ever seen (fantasy ended bw as the top player, imo at least, and obviously the scene got higher skilled overtime)
So, how long till Rain runs back with the tail between his legs and rejoins SK Telecom T1 after he finds out how it's like on a foreign team where they have no teamhouse where everything is provided for the player and stable high (for a progamer) salary income. Oh well, in a few months Rain probably won't be a top tier protoss anymore as his skill declines due to lack of the structured KeSPA practice regime.

Many Koreans are able to succeed on Western teams or even just with personal sponsors. Taeja and HerO have done great on TL. MC has done well on SK and GEM. Polt has thrived on CM Storm.

And with so many SKT players leaving, SKTInnovation doesn't sound that crazy. They are in need of a quality Terran, after all. I'd much prefer to see him go to any other team, however.

I'm still holding out for a reunion-StarTale entering ProLeague for next season.
The crazy thing is that skt still has a pretty decent line up. Soo soulkey classic dark and paralyze. Also, i reckon that innovation and gumi bear are fairly reasonable pick ups with all of that money they've got.

I mean SKT will probably be fine, but Rain on the other hand

i wonder why fantasy/parting chose to stream on twitch instead of azubu, even tho kespa is going to partner up with azubu. is it simply that now fantasy/parting is no longer kespa players that azubu will no longer offer them the same deal?
i also feel that if EG doesnt pick up one of these guys, their sc2 squad is basically dead in terms of priority.

Actually, maybe they couldn't think of a good enough pun, which is why they decided against having one.
Just realised, KT Rain would make KT so ******* ridiculously strong. In addition with a top Zerg like DRG, this would just be unfair to the others Proleague teams.
I never loved a protoss like i loved Rain. I am so so sad, they were so good (still are) but now they are not going to improve like they would if they stayed in a big kespa team... i dont get it... So sad.
Teams don't own players, that has been established. Don't fret for SKT, they will bounce back. I'm just curious what these players want to do now. Any of them is a top notch addition to any team at this moment!
