Don't know how I feel about this, really.

On one hand, we lose a foreigner who could consistently play against koreans with results.
On the other, we lose a foreigner who would consistently shit-talk and just be a massive douche.

True but we don't hear alot from Scarlett recently. And i would not put State in top 20 foreigner.

Scarlett is going to Korea in a few weeks, and State just joined Prime and is said to consistently hang around the upper half of KR GM. I don't think there are 20 foreigners that could do the same.

Happy is pretty much #1 on EU ladder for 3 years and still hasn't been able to reach the Ro4 of a big tournament. You know that the ladder means nothing.

NaNiwa is just blunt. He will say what he thinks without hiding anything. If you want to surf for analogs, you don't need to bring IdrA. Go, look at Doublelift, one of best adcs in the world. (League of Legends, right). He's trash-talking like hella a lot but he delivers after it in 90%. Same with NaNi and you just can't have every player like HuK, who will cry if someone like Thoorin speaks about him as asshole.

Not a lot of foreigners can be added to official roster of KeSPA team.
I highly doubt that there are at least 10 possible figures in the world right now.

That doesn't change what I said. There probably aren't 20+ players that could hang around the top of the Korean ladder that aren't Korean. Tournament results aren't relevant to the question.

Naniwa, feel proud.
Two ro8 in the hardest version of Code Se and imo the undisputed foreigner hope...

Time for some dramatic conclusions I guess:

RIP sc2 since nobody will care now that there is nobody (non-korean) fighting at Naniwa's level or even close...

GG blizz and yeah..... Let's all just watch Rollplay instead I guess.

Also:

Big respect to Naniwa for keeping it real, and not just hanging around at a shitty level which he knows he is so so far above when he actually has a fire for the game.

dude, nice job hijacking nani's thread with your own retirement. you will be missed /sarcasm

btw, you say you respect nani for this. But really what is boils down to is "I'm not practicing, but I'll stay play tournaments from time to time."

He's pulling a Stephano. He wants to play less, but still enjoy the spotlight.

I've had a lot of respect for him over the last couple of years for his dedication to do his best and for his results. I still think that compared to his skill he might be the biggest douche that's out there. Will miss him for his plays, not for his constant bitching. (That last line is classic him, balance whining through the flower like that is annoying as fuck)

Still, farewell Nani, those were some big plays you pulled across your career. Taking a break might be the best decision when you're not hot for the game anymore. Maybe it will come back (it did for me), maybe it won't.

Not meaning to argue, but this hype around state, I dont get it. Can someone link me a vod that gives me some reason to believe in any of this hype? The play that I have seen from in the past, although being limited, does not come even close to it.

Okay he got picked up by a korean team, well so did Fenix too. Only problem in this story was that this recruitment was the last we heard about Fenix before he disappeared in the "no longer relavent pro player" mist. So I am not holding my breath quite yet ^^

No hopes for you.
Let us to clap for our hero once more, probably last time.

Well it won't be pretty if he didn't touch the game for over a month. Didn't expect him to travel there, he rarely went to events if he wasn't prepared.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

It's such BS it is because of the swarm host, swarm host is nothing new at all, it's just that he played it way too much, and im not blaming him, playing up to about 10 hours every day, omg i cant even imagine how boring that would be in the long run. If he's not caring about doing well or his best at Katowice, he shouldnt even be participating in the first place, no one can play on the top level that is needed to take on a tournament such as IEM Katowice if they dont have passion for the game. Naniwa means a lot to the foreigner sc2 community and i bet that many many will quit following big events and even stop playing if he's quitting. I would love to see him do well on this "last" tournament of his that i think it is, but i doubt there will be any wins at all Let's hope for the best though.

Haha do not compare Naniwa to Doublelift. Dlift talks trash and pokes fun at his competitors, but he respects them as people and doesn't spend all day talking about how Riot is stupid and how he knows better. Nani is not "just blunt." He really does have a distasteful personality. That being said he is an amazing player, which is the only reason someone like him can get by in the scene

Since when you have to insult your opponents and blame anything but yourself when you lose to have a "true personality"?

MC has no personality? Targa ? Mana ? Huk? Catz ?

I'm happy for the SC2 scene today and I hope he'll never come back. Being different is good, being an ass like Idra or Naniwa is a shame.

Just my 2 cents.

I personally find MC irritating... but that's the point! How you just expressed your feelings over players like Idra and Naniwa shows that they are indeed personalities! In my opinion, Naniwa is an extraordinarily honest, and hard-working player and his opinions, whilst either loved or hated, draw the audience in... you either want him to win, or you want him to lose; and that im afraid is what draws a lot of people into sport... storyline and drama.

Never mind the fact that he got rolled in his WCS Europe Ro32 group. It's laughable that he blames Blizzard when Protoss are doing the best of all the races right now, and also because he's made so much money off their game. If you don't want to play the game, don't play it. You don't have to whine about it like some girl whose prom date just left her.
