Suppy re-signed with EG for another year and also decided to go Full Time! He already moved to the EG house.
Some excerpts from the statements:
...We are pleased to announce that we have re-signed Conan for another year. But on top of that, we're even more excited to relay that for the next year, he'll be focusing on StarCraft full-time, which will allow him to further improve his play and also be involved in more content (please, Suppy Time, based Conan Liu).
Having Conan on the team this past year has been a really wonderful experience. We're happy to have kept him on the team, and we expect to see some great things out of him over this next year.
Alexander Garfield CEO, Evil Geniuses
Suppy:
I am excited to finally announce that I am going full time for a year. It's been something I've been thinking about for a while now, and over summer I decided to jump in feet first to pro gaming. I subsequently cancelled my classes for the fall semester at Berkeley. Perhaps a major concern is that right now is not the best climate nor time period for going full-time. Despite this, I feel like this is the right choice for me personally, as moving forward into junior year I would have been overwhelmed by MCATs, medical school applications, upper division classes, research, etc. Becoming a pro gamer is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I don't want to live with the regret of never knowing how good I could have possibly become...

I don't know, it's a once in a lifetime thing and a full time salary from EG, while living for free for a year should help out with med school. It's different to a complete newcomer without sponsor or team going full time.

He did also mention that he was seriously thinking about it for a while. I'm sure part of that process was talking to his parents.

This is good for EG, but Suppy just gave up (temporarily) on his education... I find it a bit sad that he prefers to go full time instead of picking the more secure path... but I guess everyone has there own preferences.

Most universities let you take a year off from classes without it effecting your enrolment status. There really is no trade-off here.

not sure going full time on progaming will give you more free time to ace the MCAT....
dont progamers practice SC2 the entire waking day?

It sounds like an 8 hour work day. But no homework. So the workload is probably less than a junior at Berkeley doing pre-med.

Progaming + School + MCAT is still more than Progaming + MCAT.
Suppy is already beastly, but if going full time allows him to step up his play another notch, he's going to become truly scary. Can't wait to see his progress over the next year.
Great player, great contributor to the community, really happy that he's having continuing success with EG.
Don't like this decision given the state of the scene. Hopefully he can have some tournament success with the additional practice time + potential region lock for WCS.
Edit: This thread really shows one reason why the foreign scene doesn't produce the same players as Korea does. What does most players on eSF/KeSPA teams do? Forgo school. That is the big sacrifice that countless koreans make to maybe have a shot at glory, a smaller shot than most part-time foreigners have, due to the audience's incredible bias, streaming and so on.
Basically, Suppy is doing what most koreans are doing all the time to try and succeed in sc2. This is what foreigners need to do to catch up.

It's not like he gets kicked out of Berkeley. Or he won't find a job because he didnt earn his degree in X consecutive years. Not sure why anyone would be in a hurry to finish school anyway. Yeah can't wait to finish med school and start my residency in some overcrowded, undermanned hospital working 100 hours a week! When you have the choice of taking time off to play vidya games and making bank, you take it.

Yeah and tons of them don't make it and end up pretty behind once their career is over. I do enjoy korean SC2, but I don't necessarily think that a lot of them are making the best choice. You can't eat passion.
I'm kind of surprised by some of the negativity. Taking a year off from school only delays his graduation by a year. People take breaks from school all the time.
This is great news for the sc2 scene and it's an amazing opportunity for Suppy. He's right, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and he's taking full advantage of it. GL Suppy!

He's not dropping out of school...most schools have zero repercussions for not taking classes over a few semesters. As long as your break is at most a year long, you can do whatever else you want in that time.

Not to mention that most students that do non-stop school to graduate ASAP end up with loads of debt. The ones that post-pone their graduation to do some work and get a paycheck (whether it's part time or full-time in small chunks) are the ones making the smart decisions.
this is why im so impressed with polt. Sc2 is hard enough for full time players but he lives in a foreign country, learns their language while attending college, and still continues to dominate SC2.. just wow
This guy is so good already despite only playing part time, can't wait to see how good he'll get. Really happy to see a truly talented and dedicated foreign player get a chance to go full-time pro. 2014 top American player gogo!
good to see another american with an actual chance putting in the time necessary to succeed! Best of luck to you Suppy! Hope to see you dominating premier with scarlett in 2014.

I think his parents will be actually happy due to the fact that Suppy will be able to sustain his college education even without student loans.

Yep, school can wait, 6 figures can not.
there are things in life more important then money .

He will skip school for one year and come back with something like 2 student loans that he won't pay back. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Like taking a once in a life time opportunity that probably includes travel all over the world? Yeah, I'd recommend anyone/everyone with the opportunity to take the year off to pursue a dream do it!

I don't think you or anyone should tell Suppy what is bad for him. The chance to pursue your dream anyone would take that chance, and for those that have the chance to pursue their dreams take it while you can. Also I'm pretty sure it has no effect on his school other than he's taking a year off..

You obviously don't get Fionn's sense of humor.
The amount of people that are spewing worthless advice when they have no reason nor justification to do so here is startling and more than a bit sad.
You're sure disrespecting Suppy's mental capability if you think he hasn't thoroughly thought this through. He's spent the last year setting himself up in a safe, secure position to go for it and has results which speak for themself. He's gonna kick ass.

Well to be fair, if he was dropping out entirely I think it might not be the best decision, but it seems like hes taking a temporary break from studies as opposed to dropping out entirely.

I'm one of those who prefer understandability over actual truth..
Why not just make the thread title say "Suppy renews his contract with EG for being a full-time member after he finishes his school in 1 year or sth.."
Even though that may not be 100% accurate, ppl would be so much closer to the point of this thread
============================================================== B.T.W. - like Supply quite a bit actually.. Like his comments on shows, and the "firmness" of character he shows - quite impressive for his age..
Eventually he will go back and get his degree and all that good stuff. Besides, it's not like he doesn't make money while doing this whole gaming shenanigans "Probably what his parents think".
I took a couple of years off from college, obviously not a gamer but I did work and those experiences really helped me grow and mature, so full support here!
hopefully he'll find his decision well made. he's a hard worker so let's hope he puts up some results he can be proud of. taking a year off of school is such a small deal i'm surprised people are shitting a brick about it.
People acting like he is quitting university. He can go back you know. He won't ever get another chance to do this so its a fine decision. He will have a lot to fall back on and can continue his studies after.

pretty much this. He has the opportunity to get paid to play video games for a living... or he can continue with school and with that option that will be available to him...for forever.
His school credits wont disappear when he unenrolls, and Berkley will let him back in when he wishes.
like he said... not the best timing and SC2 seems to be on major decline (initiate flameproof umbrella), but otherwise i think its a great decision. He can finish college after making 5,000+.... school costs money so he is definitely making a better decision than just doing both, and like he said he would regret that forever.
The thing about Suppy is that when he was at Berkeley he barely ever practiced SC2. Major was on stream once talking about how he played 40 games that day (pretty normal for pro gamers I think) and Suppy said "I don't even play that much in a week."
Talent's gotten him this far, now it's time to see what practice can do.
