all of the other 'terrible news' did not bother me much but this one hurts. came late to the SC2 scene remember MKP from the start of my time. you will always be remembered fair prince.

I think it has more to do with prestige. Most of the guys that went into SC2 were going into it because of BW, the prestige of being the best. The legends around bonjwas the respect that came from being a pro-player in the most popularized esports in the nation. Now the new thing is LoL, where we have players like Faker who are becoming insanely popular, having ridiculous amounts of press. Of course with the giant scene comes money, but prestige has lot more to do with it imo.

It's the most popular game in the world. 40% of people in PCBangs play League. It's everywhere. Money, fame, fans, etc. are all in League currently.

It's like wondering why a kid in the United States would rather try out for the basketball team instead of the cricket club.

probably a bad choice by him. he was a player capable of winning stuff.

LoL is a totally different game where he can't really use the things he's good at in SC2. Chances are good he'll be a noname in LoL and switch back in the next SC2 addon.

Definitely one of the most iconic players in SC2 during the first couple of years; unfortunately he had fallen off alot and I don't think this should be very surprising. Good luck MKP, thank you for the memories!

Remember when the game was new, and MKP's marine-only TvZ sparked furious balance debates? I think it was GSL-2, when the standard was for T to build marauders to tank against baneling hits, and MKP came up with the novel idea of skipping the marauders and splitting your marines to avoid the banelings. I remember Artosis fervently arguing that marines weren't imba, MKP was just the first one to figure out that your army is a lot better if you micro it.
Above all, let's remember that MKP started as a ladder beast known as Boxer, then Foxer (for Fake Boxer), then, no joke, Ellen Page. Going to miss this guy, it was fun watching him grow up, and not many people cared more about the game.

Shame to see him go, but he's definitely fallen off from where he once was with SC2. However, I'm really not sure how well these game switches are going to go for a lot of former SC2 pros. It hasn't exactly gone well for the ones that already tried to make the switch, and I seriously doubt he'll be able to beat out the current best-of-the-best in LoL to take the kind of position that he once had in SC2.

Regardless of what happens, I'll always remember him fondly for what he brought to SC2 during WoL. Good luck!

Sad to see him go, but not unexpected at all. He just hasn't had the same drive the last year. While I somewhat hoped he would return to his best form, it usually doesn't work that way.

Good luck to him in LoL.
