My Speculation is that Kespa and IM is pressuring LG to sponsor IM full on Kespa style so they can integrate IM into Proleague. Every Kespa team is sponsored by somone big named (team 8 counts!) and with the departure of EG-TL they need a team that has a sponsorship big enough for kespa style. LG probably was happy with sponsoring IM while it was at esF but Kespa demands a lot more from sponsors. That's probably why LG is pulling out and IM-Kespa is going all in. I think that's a ton of very empty speculation. EGTL pulling out makes it so that we're missing a team, but it looks like you didn't quite read the OP or understand the situation. LG hasn't paid IM any money when their contract didn't work well in December 2012. EGTL didn't pull out until recently. Granted they didn't show the best results, but there was never really a huge incentive for LGIM to join the SPL anyway since they don't seem to be a team that worries too much about team results.

This seems very true for e-sports, not much buying power from young people, but pitchforks are very strong from them.

Out of common sense, aren't you suppose to get re-sponsorship confirmation from sponsors ahead of time, that way you have time to look for other sponsors if they decline. In this case IM is asking for drama when it could have been easily avoided. Given how long it took T8 to find a sponsor, I doubt that IM could find one so easily too. I can't say just how hard they tried to "easily avoid" it, but I'm just guessing it wasn't that easy. And if IM straight up stops representing LG the moment the contract ends, it would be like rudely shutting the door on a possible opportunity for a re-extension. Not something you want to do in a negotiation phase with no backup plan. They were probably "hoping for the best", and it just didn't turn out right.

I'm seriously beginning to wonder why this sort of head-scratching stuff seems to be more common amongst eSF teams than KeSPa teams. Even though Team 8 has been looking for a sponsor for a while, I never heard of them struggling like this. Is team management just better under KeSPa?

You have to remember that KeSPa is a government body while eSF isn't. So I believe that being in a government body with much more strict regulations, it will be harder for this kind of stuff to happen. I just hope that KeSPA and eSF can join force later on. I know its hard, but it is better for the SCII scene for them to combine.

I'm sure such corporations would have major ties to government, but I didn't think it was run by government.
