Yes thats right but Nano isnt doing the boosting. He stated "athena paid me to get his account to gm" which means he is getting paid to pay someone else to boost an account to gm if that makes sense. Idk who business works for Nanocloud but im sure its probably not good unless hes getting others to boost accounts for free which is pretty dumb on whos ever doing the account leveling.

Oh I understand now.
Yeah just as bad, sorry. "I didn't kill his wife, I found someone who would kill his wife for money" wtf.

Blight found a new alias to go under!
In all serious though this sucks, shitty for team sMi, seems like they were too trusting to begin with though.
I find it funny this guy was trying to scam for money. Being a sponsor means YOU give the team money, how in the hell did he expect to get money from them? lol..

Yeah, they meant to clarify how nanocloud wasn't the individual that did the actual boosting, but he had other people level the account for him.

Well he posed as a good friend of me and a couple of other people on the team. We were on skype a good amount of the time with him for almost 2 months or so, and he acted like a "friend" you could say. I guess he was trying to gain our confidence in hopes of that one day maybe one of us would share some personal information with him (bank account #s, etc.) I started becoming a little suspicious when people started telling me that he was known to do similar things in broodwar days, so I brought it to the attention of other people on the team.

Ah ok, that makes a lot more sense. Sorry might have missed that part if it was in the OP :x
Best of luck in you guys future endeavors though, at least you didn't end up giving any numbers out!

Hi Carlos ! Add me on b.net I will be in channel

I find it hard to feel bad for these guys. Its one thing to get scammed by someone you've never met, but geez, look at the excuses.. after the first 2 bs lies i wudve smelled a rat.
tough one boys, chalk it up and learn from it.

that guy just looks like a piece of shit
|
Why do i feel like deezer is a prt of this lol
|
I would imagine part of the reason they were still hoping/ beleiving the guy is BECAUSE there seemed to be little to gain. Im guessing the guy would have tried to turn around the "free" gear into "only 20$ gear" if it had continued and that would be his way of scamming money out of smi. Im sorry this happened to you guys.

have you reported him to the police?

It sucks that all this happened, but there's one glaring fact that's standing out to me and nagging me.
At a management level, you let people vouching for someone be something regarded as good enough to use as a sponsorship basis. That's basically where it all started, a guy from the past acting nice got him a step in. That's fine and great and all if you're looking for friends or something like that.
If you look from a business perspective, especially a team looking for sponsors, you let personal stuff effect the business of the situation. That's really really bad and shows a lack of business understanding really, it's not a good call, especially after the really really bad first picture. You were going to meet with him and needed him to ship the gear? Like you couldn't get it yourself somehow?
It sucks all this happens, especially for the sc2 scene, for sMi, for everything. It seems like nothing too much has been lost, but that's not really true. If I was looking from an investment perspective, I can't see how I would be able to trust my resources to a team like this. Just that it god to this stage, that it got this far a long, and that it was allowed to go on till it did damage like it did, till it exploded like it did, that signals that resources could be lost during an issue before it was dealt with swiftly and effectively, just shows a lack of business skills. Pretty sucky situation all over really.

i assume that one reason why dirtybird posted this whole story is that the private sponsor that was mentioned in the team announcement thread has turns out to be hot air and that they are back to no sponsor.
|
I don't understand how he wanted to profit from smi if smi has no money anyway :p also he doesn't have enough space behind his table tennis table.
|
this is some noob level drama and highlights how naive many people in 'esports' truly are. Private investor, making team promises off of some skype calls? Horrible business management. You don't deserve to be 'scammed' (if you can even call this scamming, he didn't seem to get anything) for being bad at running a business/team but most of this was brought on yourself.
all the drama about leveling accounts etc., old news, this is 2002 level drama about ladder rankings, nobody cares, kids being kids.
|
So a guy you used to know in BW promised you some hardware but you did not get it. I can't see the scam, just false hope.

I think you may be right. Overall, both sides are super naive. The funniest part is trying to scam a team with no money. The guy clearly wants to exceed in stupidity.
