Playing in tournament against the players they meet everyday in the ladder is now going to suddenly make a huge impact. At least it's gonna allow some american players to renew with the feelings of final stage of a relatively big tournament and maybe gain some confidence that there is room for them in the SC2 pro scene.

But it's good for the viewers to have something different. This is a common sentiment that is largely inaccurate. It wouldn't be faster for NA to develop as a scene if they exclusively play people who are significantly better than they are. This is why minor league teams aren't playing major league teams. It's why middle schoolers don't play varsity teams (ignoring the physical differences). It's why chess amateurs don't play grandmasters. Would they get better playing the best Koreans in the world? Absolutely. Would it be any faster than playing at a high level within their skill group? Maybe. Is it cost efficient to do so? No. There isn't enough money in the NA scene to support people losing 99% of the tournaments they enter
