Yeah i thought the issue would be something like this, makes sense. Thank god they are opening some more ;_;
After reading that, he suggest that when it isn't "overloaded" in the EU with viewers, that it is fine, but when it reaches its current cap, then it overflows and you have to re route the stream to California/Kansas servers so thats when the lag occurs, but then it will be only for some people.
+ Show Spoiler [His Answer] + Question: How can you explain that all video data being streamed from EU gets routed to NA, Kansas/California and other states ?? Isn't this a major routing flaw in your product? This issue has been quite prevailing for the past couple of weeks and so far viewers have not received any official answers.
Answer: When we run out of EU capacity, we spillover to the US rather than either A) overloading EU servers, or B) refusing to serve new viewers.
We're opening 3 new datacenters shortly in the EU for just this reason.

They should just use a better stream service than Twitch, they're incapable of providing stable streams in Europe. Which makes it a bad choice for a Europe-based event, one would think. ~~

Have you tried refreshing the page a few times? Twitch connects you to a different server every time and it seems pretty random instead of being based on load.
I am in NA and have really incredible lag sometimes, but then I relaunch the stream until it gives me a smooth connection. Usually it takes about 3 tries.

They did add akamai CDN to their service at one time in the past when MLG was waffling between using them or using akamai directly. I don't think they use it any more so I guess they weren't satisfied with their reduced profit margins.
It may be cheaper to use their own servers but it's obviously inferior and they will always be playing catchup when it comes to adding capacity.

Well normally you would expect them to use their own capacity, but also link with a CDN to provide spillover when required. It seems they have been too slow in building out their own capacity and also aren't making use of any third party CDN in the meantime, which means poor service for viewers.
But hey, they have almost got a monopoly so unfortunately they don't need to care too much.

I just hope e-sports events switch to other streaming sites. Twitch has had these problems during big events for almost a year now, I gave up hope they will ever fix this.

240p unwatchable. wp twitch.

It's the same as every weekend/every big event with Twitch, nearly impossible to watch for people in Europe. Twitch has always been shitty for a lot of viewers in Europe.

Try refreshing a couple of times. You might get lucky and be connected to a server that works better for you.
Weirdly all the streams work perfectly for me as long as I watch them thru tl.net, but if I accidentally click the stream and go to twitch.tv, it works awfully.

Yeah, it is a good tip. Yesterday I tried to watch some games on twitch site and it was awful, chokes every 5-10 seconds... Today I'm watching via TL and works perfectly@720p.

I dont have an hardcore pc or big internet connection...no lag at all. Perfect stream for DH. I only use dreamhackTV Stream...

Stream works fine here...thats what i am saying. :-) No, we bash Twitch because it's a Twitch issue. When a significant number of people have the EXACT SAME issue, then the issue is likely not their fault. In this instance we know that it's a Twitch issue, because everyone has the same issue, and it doesn't matter what the end user does, including changing resolution.
When 720p, 720, 480, 360 all do the exact same thing, and refreshing the stream enough times to get a different server fixes the issue, what do you think the cause of the problem is? Hint: it's Twitch.
People are "bashing" Twitch because they are the problem.

Its a pain in the ass and degrades my enjoyment of an otherwise excellent tournament production.
