What does "Blizzard should go further" mean lol?
Obviously, we always need more, right?...

They could ...

- get rid of license requirements for everything ... they should not be trying to make a profit from a game which they sold to us, since it is the players and the community who make it great. They can host their own tournaments and profit from sponsors that way. The whole licensing thing is just the next step of "gamers only buying the permission of the publisher to play the game" instead of actually owning the game copy itself.

- help and support small tournaments out of the goodness of their hearts and pure enthusiasm

Since Blizzard started designing Starcraft 2 as a huge eSports title first and foremost instead of a fun game for everyone they have had a bad focus for balancing the units and the general mechanics. The game is actually on the brink of becoming too complex and too fast for casual or lower level players ... which is bad, because it will not make it a good selling game ... well it shouldnt, but Blizzard will get away with it due to fanboys not realizing that the game is going down that route and that they are not going to enjoy it.

It does not say you can't stream trough other sites, it just says that, in addition, you have to have a Twitch stream for it.

You read it how I read it, but something tells me it's not what Blizzard meant. I think they mean it can only be broadcast using Twitch.

edit: Actually, having read the exclusion of TV broadcast, I'm going to infer that Blizzard is ok with streaming from whatever site, as long as it's also on Twitch.

Should the tournament organizer wish to broadcast the tournament online, the tournament
must be broadcast on Twitch;

The twitch thing is probably due to the fact that:

a) who uses anything other than twitch these days anyways?
b) its the most robust streaming platform
c) blizz have a relationship with them already
d) they want sc2 to be up the top of the list on twitch, where 99% of gamers get their content already....

I could keep going. If you want to stream on another platform too, that seems to be ok but it would make sense for them to say "this is our preferred broadcasting platform, you must offer a twitch stream" and I don't see how anyone can complain. Who is watching their sc2 on other platforms anyways? Except maybe the gom player?

Its all about exposing sc2 the best they can, why the fuck would anyone complain about having to use twitch? its the best and easiest streaming platform I've found, they give great partner deals, they already have over 90% of the gamer streaming market locked up.

People will bitch about anything, I bet everyone who is saying "this twitch thing is bs" watches 99% of their sc2, dota, lol etc on twitch and are very happy about it. Some people just need to find fault with something, and you are all pathetic tbh

LOL, After 2 years of holding events without a blizzard license blizzard finally does away with the requirement.

Completely unenforceable laws are not laws at all.

For context; I have been holding tournaments in the 20-50 person range almost monthly since the release of Wol, never ever got a license. lol

If it weren't for Blizzard's initial reigns over SC2 tournament rights, GOM would not be here, presently.
Anyone that laments about Blizzard's hold on tournament rights should keep that in mind.

Yeah, that really sucks actually. Nice monopoly, bro. Some of the other restrictions are pretty weird too, considering they're applying them to literally any tournament anyone tries to put on with SC2.

Luckily twitch is the best broadcasting service around, monopoly or not, it's like complaining about googles overlapping monopoly they're slowly forming in market share (I.E search engine which still has something obscene like 85% market share last I checked)

It was for larger tournaments, one's that they could take a reasonable cut on. Anyone of those small scale tournaments ever have a prize pool? A prize pool even over 100 USD? 1,000 USD?

There's why. Small fish don't matter, sorry ;(

Blizzard should simply stay out of tournament organization. Korean eSports started and grew with communities evolving into independent organizations out of Blizzard's control. Blizzard trying to direct things is gimping such growth in other regions.

Focus on creating a good game that people enjoy. Support with sponsorships if you wish to. But let players organize and determine how to play the game.

thats the reason why shoutcrafts had 5k pricepool and added the donations to players

I'm glad they don't count donations as part of the tournament winnings. Also rewards players who cater to their fan base.

Bluzzard is finding out that having a stranglehold on the community is not helping their cause in making SC2 the number one competitive game. It's a good change obviously, but I'm only happy with having the cap exist in the first place if they would just get their butt into gear and finally add LAN.

Be that as it may, I think TotalBisquits idea for doing the donation thing was a great move in the right direction to supporting players. I dont know if the really small prize pool limitation was the reason for the "Tip Jars", or if it was something else, but it was a good idea, imo. It really let you BE PART OF IT, which is what eSportSz is all about.

It specifies SC2 at three different points, but this is still a good question despite that, actually.

If Blizzard ever decided to enforce rules for smaller tournaments hosting BW, I'd imagine they would pretty much be identical.
