How do you feel about advancing to the Premier League?

For a while now, I’ve been performing poorly and I’ve been on a losing streak. That’s why I got really nervous today and ended up losing game one. I think I was able to advance however because I defeated EffOrt and was able to let go of my nerves.

This will probably be your first time playing in YongSan.

I think it’s going to be an entirely different feeling. It’s going to be important that I don’t get nervous. I think I’m going to have to play as if I was playing in the GangNam studio.

There was news that you had won a foreign tournament not long ago.

Participating in that tournament was me laying it all on the line. If I came back from that tournament with a championship than I would have revived my feel for the game and I would have done well for the Up/Downs, but if I had come back empty handed then there was a good chance that I would have felt even worse than before. I feel like I’ve been practicing these days for my matches because I had no choice even though my game wasn’t going well. But I was able to use that foreign tournament participation as means of practicing for a purpose so I was able to think about a lot of things.

You won the Millenium Cup championship. What kind of experience was it?

The tournament opened up with a comforting atmosphere. It was fun. It also felt entirely different than usual.

You secured a 3-1 result today. What kind of score were you expecting initially?

I felt like I could have secured all four victories had I won game one but I ended up losing so I was feeling anxious. But I felt that I could win the rest of my games after I beat EffOrt. For today, I poured a lot of focus into my game vs EffOrt. But of course I paid a lot of attention to game one as well.

What are your goals for next season?

I was able to go to the semi-finals in just one shot last time so I want to try to do that again for next season. I want to advance to the Season 2 finals and increase my chances of going to Blizzcon. I was worried cause I performed so poorly for Season 1 but I think I’m going to be able to make up for it in Season 2.

It must have been awful for you to experience getting eliminated in the Ro32 of the WCS Season 1 after securing a Code S semi-finalist spot in the previous season.

The build order I used for games one and three vs SKT T1 soO was a build order that I almost never lose with. But I got overzealous and I ended up wasting away too many banelings. I was struggling with ZvP during that time so I even got the feeling that I wasn’t going to be able to do well for HotS after I got defeated by STX SouL’s Trap. All in all, it was a trialing period. It hasn’t completely passed yet but I think I’ve lessened it somewhat with today’s victory.

Anything else you would like to say?

I want to thank my teammates for helping me with practice. There was a possibility of having to go through a 3-way tie today but ByuN played vigorously even though he was already eliminated so I want to let him know how grateful I am. I want to thank our sponsors Red Bull and Joy Gear. Lastly, I will make sure that I don’t show a pathetic performance where I got eliminated like I did during Season 1 for Season 2 at YongSan.

You advanced to the Premier League for the first time ever. How do you feel?

I was thinking that I was going at advance happily with three wins but I think that’s me being kind of cocky (laughs). In the end, I didn’t really advance because of my skills so I’m feeling a little down right now rather than glad.

But this is your biggest individual achievement for SC2 right?

It’s true that this is my best result since transferring to SC2. But I think everything will begin from here on out. I’ve only halfway started so I will have to blow up for Season 2’s Premier League.

The last time you participated in an individual league at YongSan was back in 2010 when you won the OSL.

The old YongSan stadium remains as a good memory for me. For some reason, I feel good about this upcoming season too. I think things are going to go well. The feeling’s entirely new.

Any specifically disappointing games today?

There were a lot of disappointing games but the very last one was the biggest one. I thought I had the advantage but I dropped my guard only once and then that resulted in a loss so I felt crushed inside. I was also really disappointed that someone else was going to determine my fate because of my loss.

What were you feeling as you watched game 10 between Super and ParalyzE?

I was thinking to myself that I would get eliminated if I didn’t secure three wins. So I was watching the game with a comfortable mindset. But truthfully, I clenched my right fist the minute I saw that Super had won. I think I’m going to have to become friends with him from now on (laughs).

Next season’s goals?

Things are only just starting so I think it’s going to be good to set a high goal. I’ve thought like this since a long time ago. I want to aim big. I will make getting to the finals my goal. I am excited to see as to whether or not I’ll do better by setting a big goal.

It feels like your performances have some ups and downs because of your recent Proleague results. If you had to evaluate your own performances?

It is very difficult to evaluate my own performance. But I do think that I am still lacking a lot right now. If I had to give myself a score, I would give myself a 50 out of a 100.

Anything else you would like to say?

I want to thank my teammates for helping me with practice even though we were on break. Bunny, rare, SonGDuri, and Bong especially helped me out a lot even though they were on break. I am really grateful.

This is why I absolutely despise SC2 General... Interview threads always get lost in the chaos because they're just not as important as other threads...

Unless I'm mistaken, Seeker said he talked to Plexa(or one of the TL staff) and they said that there is no need for a subsection for interviews. It would make it much easier to locate them imo but not my call.

Thanks Seeker! Great to see Effort make it through. He's been lacking from what I've seen in his PL games so here's to hoping this is his first step towards improving and becoming a much more relevant player

Does anybody else really dislike the rule by which Effort got through btw? A player shouldn't be considered 'better' because they beat the players the ones they were tied with lost to, it's circular logic because Effort also lost to players Super and Afrotoss beat...

Nope, H2H record is the best tiebreaker. It's the tiebreaker used in north american sports because it's the best. Let's take the nba for example. Say after the 82 game regular season, two teams are tied. Team A beat Team B in H2H record. However, Team B has a better record against say a crap team like the bobcats. No one cares about that and it's irrelevant. It's how the two teams played against each other that is important and why H2H record is the best tiebreaker. Settling things team vs team, mano a mano is the fairest way.
