You advanced to the Premier League. How do you feel?
It feels like I’ve come back home. I won the championship for the final BW season and the previous one there, and I also participated in the Auction All Kill OSL. I thought to myself that I was lacking during all this time for SC2, but I am really excited for this season. I think it’s going to be fun.
Are you excited because your SC2 skills have gotten better?
Recently, I slightly increased the amount of practicing that I do. I guess you could say I increased it about an hour or two? Thanks to that, my skills improved a lot (laughs). Even before that, it’s not like I was not practicing during my losing streak for Proleague. I think I’m seeing a great effect because I increased my practice time after practicing diligently for so long.
Is the fact that you have a lot of televised matches experience helping you out?
I don’t think televised matches experience is playing that big of a role. Now, it feels like my practice performances and televised performances are about the same. And I think my skills have improved a lot.
Looks like you are booming with confidence. What are your goals for the next season?
I’m not sure what to say yet (laughs). But I do know that I want to at least get to the semi-finals. With my skills the way it is right now, I think I’ll be able to make it to the semis with relative ease. But I am a little worried about PvPs. Including Proleague, I have a lot of experiences where I got stopped because of PvPs.
OGN stated that there is a possibility that this season’s championship could count for the Golden Mouse achievement.http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Golden_Mouse
If that is true then I will make sure I win the championship no matter what (laughs). A while ago, the OGN PD stated that there was a possibility of connecting OGN championship victories onto SC2 results. Personally, I can’t help but feel like this upcoming OSL season will be my golden mouse achievement.
Well then, don’t you think you need to change your goals?
I was worried that stating that getting to the finals right off the bat is my goal would make me look conceited (laughs). That’s why I said that the semi-finals was my goal but I have the confidence right now to get to the finals.
How did you prepare for today’s games?
It is really difficult to prepare for the Up/Downs. So I just worked on deciphering the maps as I prepared for my games. I had to prepare for Proleague while also preparing for my many opponents on many maps for Up/Downs. It was especially difficult to prepare for Daybreak and Red City.
Anything else you would like to say?
Before I came to the studio today, I participated in the MLG Anaheim qualifiers. I had to wake up early in the morning and play even though I wasn’t fully awake, so it was really disappointing that I didn’t make it even though I was so close. I am sad because I really wanted to go to America. But I think my victory today through Up/Downs kind of comforted me. Since I made it to the OSL, I will do even better.

After one year, you’ve returned to the Premier League.
I knew that already almost a year had gone by. I remember that my last Code S game was June 19th of 2012. After getting eliminated from Code S last year, I then went on to get eliminated from WCS, and then OSL. When I was playing during that time, I think I was just really on a decline. I also remember that I fell to Code A after becoming the very first victim to STX SouL’s INnoVation. It just felt like I couldn’t take any risks because I was playing the game to survive. I wanted to play it safe so I didn’t even go for any all-ins. That’s how miniscule I was feeling. But I worked really hard so that I could approach my games today with the mentality that I was going to do my absolute best. My opponents also made mistakes but I think I was able to advance today because of my mindset.
You stated in a previous interview that you wanted to remain surviving in a powerful league.
That’s correct. I said that. And today, I felt a strong blissful sensation. I wanted to get through Korean leagues for this exact reason. I feel like I wouldn’t have been able to feel this kind of sensation had I switched regions. I feel blissful and I won so my happiness has increased like 4x today. During my game against JangBi, I told myself that I was going to get through if I just won this one but then I ended up losing. But I learned a lesson that I need to play all my games effortlessly. This is something that my dad has always been telling me but I finally realized what it meant to do that today.
The game vs Swagger was very fierce.
In that game, Swagger made two mistakes and I made one. I had the advantage early on but I did badly so I allowed a comeback to happen. And then Swagger repaid the favor by doing badly also so I was able to win. But I’m not really all that gloom about it. I kept playing with the thought that I was going to win if I kept going. I was able to win because I told myself to keep fighting till the end. I felt really good after that game ended.
You’ve played in YongSan before and now you will be returning soon.
The GOMtv studio is closer to my home so I like it there better (laughs). But YongSan is where I experienced an event called the Courage Match and I participated in the Dual Tournament there. I’m glad that I get to perform on the main stage and not the other non-official one. I plan on taking a break after today so I am going to use this time to fully rest up. But I also plan on practicing even more than I’ve been doing now. I hope I will be able to find a lot of players willing to help me. I got lucky today with the 3 Protoss group but it’s difficult for me to find Terran/Zerg practice partners. But I’m okay for ZvP.
So you practice alone?
Yes, mostly I practice alone. And then when the dates for tournaments get near, I ask players I know to help me with practice. Even if my opponent tells me that he’s dying to take a break, I still keep on practicing.
What kind of results are you expecting for next season?
I’m sure that many people are expecting me to get eliminated right away. I really can’t deny that notion (laughs). But I want to break any stereotypes. When I got eliminated from the Ro32 of Code S three times in a row, I was really angry at myself. So I want to at the very least, get to the Ro16 this time. But in my mind, my ultimate goal is always the championship.
Anything else you would like to say?
I have to talk about boss Choi Pil Woo. I wanted to go straight to the Premier League after winning the first round of the Challenger League, but I ended up losing and fell to the Up/Downs so I was really upset. But even through all that, I get to give this great news to boss Choi who kept having expectations for me so I am glad. Today, a lot of acquaintances cheered me on. I am glad that I was able to meet people’s expectations. I also want to thank coach Cella for connecting me to boss Choi.
