It's kinda lame to kick a man while he's down. Love him or hate him, getting fired sucks ass.

That being said it will be weird to not have him to root against and I do hope maybe he can find something that he enjoys doing and can become a happier person.

TBH, incontrol has a value to the EG brand that very few players could hope to match. A lot of players other than idra would've been let go a long time before if they did the same things in addition to not showing results. If Alex garfield felt that idra was more of a detriment to the EG brand and SCII as a whole, then it would've been worth letting idra go. I do think informing incontrol in advance would've definitely been best though, springing the news on him suddenly is a big shock, and it showed on SoTG. I don't think that Slasher was aware of how upset Geoff was, especially with no mental preparation, and slasher's somewhat abrasive personality didn't help.

The utmost of hearts to him for going through what I've heard he did and staying professional and collected. Having just watched SOTG, I'd say that talking to Greg before anyone else was the best possible thing to do for his dignity. It's a difficult and complicated process to end someone's employment for cause and it just makes things a lot worse for the person being fired to feel like they were the last person to know about it. As for why EG took the steps they did, clearly the TL post was the straw that broke the camel's back, and I think the OP in this thread is a reasonable expression of that. However, it's obvious from everything that's gone on recently that this is a symptom of a bigger problem. Greg Fields is not the only guy (by FAR) who's acted out his rage when games haven't gone well, but he's engaged in a lot of behaviors that suggest that his unhappiness runs deeper. He talks constantly and in the strongest possible terms about disliking the game. He talks about disliking the people who follow his performance and put eyes on his stream. He posts on here disparaging the community as a whole. He attacks a teammate on both of their streams, causing friction to the extent that they can't work together. By all accounts he has a fantastic work ethic and huge, if inconsistently realized, potential as a player. And, where all of this negativity comes from is something about which I wouldn't like to speculate. However, wherever the internal pressure that's driving all this negativity comes from, it's the kind of thing that can make developing and progressing either as a player or as an entertainer in the community (whichever path he might want to choose) very difficult. I think that Alex Garfield's comments above probably reflected accurately how he feels about Greg's comments here on TL, but the decision to end his employment with EG also probably took into account the whole picture. As they talked about on SOTG, these issues have been going on for a long time, and if anything what we see from the public side has gotten worse, not better. I think that this probably will be a long-term positive both for Greg as a person and for EG as a team, but it may be a pretty difficult road to get there, particularly on Greg's side. He'll have to decide what's important to him, why he has been playing the game, and what his longer-term goals are. I wish him the best, because those kinds of things are never easy questions to answer in the best of times.

It just kind of feels like they should have told him whatever he was doing wrong and let him try to change it first. Its not going to be the same without him and the tons of funny release the gracken type stuff. He is one of the only people you can make fun of and he just laughs it off or maybe swears at you.

I know people in real life that act like that its not a huge deal and most of the time its just funny. I mean honestly most of the people he swears at saying they suck are honestly not that good and would never have cut it at BW. The player reminded me of friends playing fighters on consoles in the 90s, complaining about how they were blocking, or the game didn't register the button press or just "cheap play" every time they lost. It's not honesty, it's subjective and it's annoying. If, however, you can play an interesting game then I'm willing to shut my ears and let the your play speak for itself... "Idra built the eSports community" is also a bunk theory. Volunteers, admins, business entrepreneurs, casters, managers, every fan who has bought a ticket... these people built the "community". Idra, like many players, was the brick and mortar. I respect the amount of dedication Idra put into the game and I understand the hardships he put up with in moving to a foreign country to dedicate himself to his passions. Doesn't change how I feel about his play and his complaining. Here's what Idra said recently for those who haven't found it: On May 08 2013 07:20 IdrA wrote: talk to your fellow viewers then. because they dont reward results, either for players or teams. code S koreans can stream and get less than 500 viewers. the community forgets about a big tournament win as soon as the next big tournament happens. a business' purpose is to make money. winning is at best tangentially related to making money in this industry, solely because of what you and the rest of the community chooses to watch. and any company who tries to lead the charge in the direction you're asking for is gonna go out of business. we arent "abusing a competitive platform" we work in an entertainment industry and you guys are entertained by pandering, not competition.
