The Dreamhack Open: Stockholm was broadcasted on the Swedish national TV-channel SVT which reaches 99.8 percent of the Swedish population and some parts of Norway, Denmark and Finland. The broadcast started at 15:00 on SVT Play which covered the entire event. In addition to the channel's online streaming service the broadcast was brought to millions of 'offline' television sets on SVT2 between 22.15 and 00.00.
The broadcast featured the games from the Dreamhack stream, along with the excellent casting of Artosis and Apollo and almost all the interviews done by Incontrol. But when the viewers of the regular Dreamhack stream had to settle for commercial breaks, SVT instead aired pre-taped interviews and coverage from South Korea, in addition to interviews done live on site.
Previous years, the content exclusive to SVT has been geo-blocked, forcing curious foreign fans to watch through proxy-servers. Not so this year. EDIT: Apparently someone in SVT forgot to press the "do not regio lock"-key, I've contacted them in an effort to have this issue resolved as soon as possible. Sorry guys!
So what about the content?

The SVT host, Ina Bäckström, had visited the Azubu teamhouse in Seoul. The clip includes some Korean with Swedish subtitles, but it should give you an idea of the production values of the broadcast.

Ina also visited the new GOM-studio in Gangnam.
Granted, unless you speak Swedish or Korean, most of that will be hard to follow. I'm mostly showing it to give you a sense of what an esport broadcast can be if it's targeted at a larger mainstream audience.
There are more interviews avaible at svt.se/esport. You should really do yourselves a favour and watch the interview with Artosis and ask yourself if there's anyone you would rather have explain why we love StarCraft to a mainstream audience.
I've had several friends, some of whom had never even considered watching esports, message me today on Facebook about how exciting it was to watch StarCraft on national television. These are exciting times for fans of esport.

That is pretty cool, I wonder how viewers they got on tv

I watched it on TV, was nice untill they just ended their broadcast in the middle of game 3 because they were out of time. So that was a big flop IMO.

I had a friend over when they were broadcasting dreamhack on the tv. She has never liked games and doesn't really have a good experience with games (one of her friends are a councelor for people who are addicted to games and he is pretty good at talking bad about anything gaming related) but I managed to get her interested and explained the game and talked about pro houses in Korea and such. The clips mentioned above helped a lot in making her understand more about the culture around sc2. We watched the stream on SVT play and on the TV and she understood my excitement when I talked about who my favourites were and why Jaedong is so popular. We cheered together for the players and had a lot of fun! It feels easier to make gaming legit when it is broadcasted on national TV, makes it feel more serious for the people who aren't into the gaming culture.

Should have been quite a few since SVT is the biggest tv channel in Sweden, it would have been bigger on SVT1 though since SVT2 is mostly used for news.

Thank you SVT <3 Sweden so ahead of the times, catching up with Korea.

I had the same thing with the Artosis-interview. I didn't check the other videos. Still awesome though.

How sure are you it's not region locked? Google translates the message when I try and play the video to "video is not available. there may be several different reasons why you can not see the video. on our test page, you can try if you can see our test video: svt play test page"

yeah i cant watch the video aswell. seems to be geo block

If that is not the case, then that's a mistake. I have contacted them in order for them to remove the region lock.

Some great interviews with Artosis and White-Ra. Cool content!

I did not see the SVT broadcast (as I was in Stockholm watching it live :p ), but my question is wether there is a short (and good!) "Starcraft 2 for dummies" to give new-comers a better grasp of what they're watching? Every time there is a big event I force IRL friends over and there is always a new person that is needed to be introduced to the wonderful world of SC2. Having someone like Artosis explain it would be the icing on the cake as he is probably the most articulate explaining the game and understanding of un-initiated...
