I have never heard of this garbage, and obviously it is wrong because even before this thread there have been tons of computer game tournaments for SC2 and even other computer games, it isn't a massive scene such as KR or EU, but it is still here.

How long have you been living in Japan? Or did you just put your country to "Japan" for fun? It's not too far off, that playing PC games is linked to Erotic Games in Japan. Anime like "Ore no imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai" show, in this case, a girl hording Erotic games and other stuff and lending it to her brother. "Boku ha tomodachi ga sukunai" also has a girl that plays "Eroge" on her notebook. Also it seems like families rather have notebooks than a normal computer, probably because of the limited space they get in their apartments. Anyway, happy to hear that Japan is starting to develop "E-Sports". Fighting games or arcade games in general are not held with price money, but goods for the first place finisher. When I went to Tougeki 2010, the winners got 1 Hori Real Arcade Pro VX Arcade as their price. A friend of mine also told me that "DUNE", a Japanese KoF player, had organized a tournament with sponsorship and price money.
