I thought Japan's gambling laws mostly deterred competitive gaming over there - but maybe I was mistaken? Either way, cool to see another region hop in to SC! Huh? That can't be the case as they have a huge competitive fighting game scene
I didnt think it was because of gambling laws but simply because arcade games and home gaming consoles are just way more popular.

I'd watch the shit out of that.

Always nice to see new blood, especially Asian new blood. Those guys always dominate eSPORTS for some reason.

They are competitive. PC gaming is just not common over there. With a few exceptions (MMOs and such) PC "gaming" in Japan usually means visual novels and porn. Historically the biggest eSports (CS, Quake, BW, WC3, DotA etc) are more often than not PC games and so have had little following in Japan. They do have a thriving arcade scene and so do very well when it comes to fighting games. The Japanese SC2 community probably consists of a small number of hardcores.

Nice to hear, glad to see Starcraft growing. Gl JP

Spot on. Arcades and consoles are the thing there. They're incredible at fighting games.

They need more mechas to accept the game though. Bring back the fucking Warhound and make it fly.

Is there a prizepool?
Would be nice to know abit about some of the best players in Japan. A guy called whitewhale won the CSN tournament in Japan a few days ago against breek (who was previously on Type Gaming with ReaL), anyone know anything about him?

The Mech-a-tron is back? Or... Thor speed increased to 4, can now launch nukes.

Just need to put SC2 into arcade cabinets, then it'll thrive!

Fantastic stuff, really hope to see some Japanese gamers getting into StarCraft!!

Interesting to see this. I'm not actually sure how good Japanese players are at all. I'd watch it just for curiosity's sake, but I have somewhat low expectations from how little I've seen JP in tournaments.
Also, thanks for the translation and posting the format. I actually think it's a pretty good league. WCS NA/EU should just use the same system ^_~
