Surprised that more Koreans didn't go to EU. EU is always the easiest region since there are always less Koreans involved there.

Unless you are a absolute top Korean playing with the KR-EU lag puts at a signficant chance to lose against the better Europeans. And even the top Koreans might get in trouble if they play online. I wonder how many / if any of the koreans actually move to EU permanently ( i know ForGG is already here )

Keep in mind that a GSL style NA/EU tournament with similar prize money didn't exist before this.

Keep in mind that every country had a WCS last season and Koreans were only playing in the Korean WCS. Thus, non Koreans could actually win something...

The better way to get non-Koreans to win tournaments is to establish a continously running tournament structure where they can meet good players and get better. This does that.

You realize the MLG Winter Championship had the highest viewership ever for a sc2 event and every foreigner was eliminated before the ro8? 140k concurrent for Flash vs Life.

Didn't Sundance say Boxer v Idra was still the highest rated?

Yes but there's no proof of that, while we could see the twitch numbers clearly. It may be true though, which in that case It's the most viewers in a little under 2 years.

I would think him and Thorzain would play EU, I could be wrong tho.

seems like cheap way to get the popular player who aren't good enough anymore to qualify otherwise deep into WCS

Is the implication that Europe is worse than NA? :/

This is literally just WCS KR Part 2, in NA.

Does that mean EG-TL won't be in the ProLeague anymore?

It does not, this should be manageable with traveling back and forth.

I feel so bad for GSL. I think players should be allowed to play in GSL for the prize money and prestige and not for the points. No more Nestea award...

Oh no!

I'm sorry but I'm having a real hard time sympathizing with all this entitlement coming out of the foreign scene right now.

lol

i was thinking about this last night and realized i couldn't even come up with 24 NA pros so i thought they pretty much had to invite some Koreans straight to Code S NA in order to not make their competition look ridiculous

I'm pretty sure the reason WCS Korea and WCS Asia didn't get that many viewers is because in the later rounds there were almost exclusively Protoss players with a few Zergs here and there... some of which not that well known or reputed, despite their evident skill level. If the entire WCS finals is Korean only but you have people like Mvp, Sun, Life, Bogus, FlaSh, DongRaeGu, PartinG etc playing, I'm sure there would be a shit ton of viewers.

So yea, no.

I don't think it works quite like that. I doubt if I took a HS Basketball team and put them up against the Miami Heat, they'd come out a better team. They'd come out a team that just got shit on by a bunch of better players.

It's not like they're going to practice against them.

They're just going to get shit on and become demoralized.

so whats the point of having eu and na?

i thought the point of this tournament was to have region locked regions where each area could have their own tournament but the best players in the world would still be able to win the season finales and final tournament.

Oh I do realize that.
I also realize it was the first proper HotS event and every1 wanted to see the game regardless of who was playing. By the time the WCS finals will be held that won't be the same cause tactics are most likely gonna be figured out by that time again.
When that happens it's pretty much up to blizzard how popular the game will be, if it ends up being an insanely boring metagame like it was in WoL the exact same thing will happen. But let's hope they learned.
