Easing the transition between singleplayer and multiplayer.
Blizzard realizes that they are plenty of Starcraft players who don't make the transition from singleplayer to multiplayer. The training area is meant to ease that transition. Basically, players will be competing with an A.I that will not only test their skills but provide them with small hints and tips as they play. The difficulty of the A.I will gradually increase as you progresses forward. After you complete the training program, you will be pitted against the A.I in unranked matches. Hopefully, this will help with the transition, Starcraft 2 is where it's at now because of its ultra competitive multiplayer.

I wish they would make training area so you would sometimes get a player opponent who is also playing at training area.

Pitted against the ai in unranked matches?
I thought it was going to be against other players, just unranked.
That would be terrible if it was just AI fighting. It would be great for casual players to have a place to practice and have fun playing matches without having to stress about their ladder ranking, and i thought that unranked mode was going to fill that, but apparently not?

Its everything above. Right now the following choices exists in the beta:
*Scenario based gameplay against AI where you are to perform special tactics to survive. *Normal games, only against the AI *Normal Unranked games against other People. *Ranked normal Games against other opponents.
You can pick whatever you like.

This sounds really neat. I'd be curious as to what the hints were that they gave out, whether or not they were just general game play things or actual specific strategy to expose the new players to.

If they make everyone do special tactics ladder is gonna be way more fun
But seriously, this sounds like a good idea to get more people into the ladder.

I suppose it is a good idea. Tools that can help you learn how to play are great. I don't know how many players will stay and actually stick to playing. But a new expansion always injects life into a game at least for for awhile. I think the biggest thing will be the social aspect.

i dont know...I still think playing against progressively stronger AI's wont teach the beginners anything except how to turtle. Which is completely different from how real multiplayer is supposed to be played.

As a casual gamer this is going to be extremely boring. I really dont look at the competitive side of the game unless I am watching a well known pro gamer for example Idra or Flash. This is going to be useful for beginners tht are just getting into sc2. But I rather play 3 people vs 3 ai or 4 people vs 4 ai ( i would like more maps of this kind). Another thing that makes the game boring is the limited amount of units that you can make. I want blizzard to allow players to make sc vanilla, bw and sc2 units and maybe heroes in customs for casual gamers. I would also want more upbeat or relaxing music that makes me enjoy the game not just "get ready for war" music.

I feel like the tips and a trainer (while helping casuals) are geared towards new casuals, not just casuals in general. You can have casual players in masters league, they'd hardly have a need for a trainer.

(sorry for my grammar, English is not my first language)
No to stay off topic because I agree with the implementation of the "training program." The article states blizzard wants players "to make a transition from single player to multiplayer." The reason for my post is that for me the training program does not make me want to play 1 vs 1 multiplayer any more than I do right now. The reason being because of the limited amount of units that you can make in the game. I understand that blizzard has to keep it balanced for 1 vs 1 competition but they should have options that allow players to add or take away units in customs and add more 3 vs 3 or 4 sv4 maps. I never stated that a master player cannot be casual.

This is one of the greatest first posts on TL, I just wanted to highlight and draw attention to it.
On topic I think this is a good addition by Blizzard.

The thing is, ai can't show you cheese and weirdass builds/all ins.More ever, it can't " do" the mind game. Unrank ladder is the best option for beginner. Tho I like the idea of giving hints and tips during the game.( etc: get detection if you see cloak units)

I don't think you need to learn how you hold a cloaked banshee harrass if you don't know what a banshee is. This is meant for beginners to learn the game and get used to the multiplayer mode and mechanics. In my opinion it is a good idea, thumbs up.

They should turn off chat, and randomly give you real players in between the AI. Then when you win it can say "You just beat a real person. See, it's not that bad to play real people"
