on another note. i don't think egtl will do well in proleague if the matches are announced in advanced. the preparation of the kespa teams will demolish them.
Was hoping for HuK/IdrA/JD against Flash, but Flash v. Zenio will still be cool. Bogus v. Rain might be an awesome series. Also looking forward to Huk v. Crazy-Hydra.
On December 06 2012 14:01 Cocoba wrote: What?! No Taeja, Hero, or Stephano
Taeja and Hero are at NASL Stephano in France for Millenium tournament and HSC. A shame TL-EG's roster will be incomplete for the opening match, but it will only get better.
Bogus vs Rain should be a pretty big match, the two elephants who made it to a GSL semifinal.
Also, I have a bad feeling that KT is gonna lose. What exactly is the format? Are all games played regardless of score, or does it end when one team get four wins?

It will be sick to see how ZerO's doing in SC2 right now, I really hope he gets to show Soulkey who's the real ace! ;D
Light didn't play in the Code A qualifiers for some reason it looks like. Which is weird since he was 5-1 in SC2 and looked to be one of the better Terrans for KeSPA.

So I never watched proleague before. I searched for the website, but couldn't find it. Do they have a system like Gom where you can subscribe to get the vods, or is it live only for foreigners?

True, when it is time for the all-kill rounds, Team Taeja TLEG will be quite powerful

When first SC2PL started OGN broadcasted on Youtube and vods were kept there, so hopefully they will do the same again.

Flash looked really good vs DRG in the recent MLG tourny. Zenio is a bit of an enigma and we haven't seen much of him recently but he still has decent chance.
Set 2: Wooki < Cloud Kingdom > JYP
PvP so not much to say here. Hopefully JYP got some good practice with HuK and HerO.
Set 3: Action < Antiga Shipyard > ThorZaIN
Good match up for T-Zain facing zerg on Antiga. However he lost to Nestea 0-2 recently in Iron Squid, so if Action is on that level he may lose.
Set 4: Stats < Ohana > Jaedong
Could go either way. Havn't seen any JD gameplay recently so idk how strong he is. Ohana prob favors Stats though.
Set 5: Crazy-Hydra < Bifrost > HuK
Hopefully HuK has a special build (other than 8gate) prepared for this map. If it goes to late game CH will prob win.
Set 6: Mind < Arkanoid > PuMa
TvT is Puma's strongest matchup by far. He should win this.
For this do the speak about keeping the matches equal? I mean rain and bogus vs each other seems to weird, when they could mop any of the other players.
On December 06 2012 14:28 Shellshock1122 wrote: This looks doable for EG-TL! also Rain vs Bogus could be really good!
Except for Zenio vs Flash I would say every one of those matchups is a coinflip. Thats why I figured EG/TL is the best team with there full roster there becuase I would favor there top 3 over almost every player on KeSPA teams.
Yo what happened to that rookie dude in KT from the hybrid season who played as their ace for a while in sc2, and then he was horrible in his BW matches because he must have been playing only sc2 ever since he got drafted by KT? Did he really just lose every advantage he had in terms of sc2 skill and everyone else got ahead of him just like that? O_o

Yeah I don't see Zenio winning. If Jaedong's ZvP is as good as MC claims (although MC could be one of the kings of hyperbole) then Jaedong definitely has a chance to win. The rest of the players on KT seemed to have struggled in the Code A qualifiers and I think Huk was able to beat Action last time. Idk if Crazy Hydra is any better but Huk could take that as well

Oh I missed Rain vs Bogus. That could be really good :O
Finally, this is starting! Only two days left! Khan fighting, RorO, Stork, JangBi, Reality.... Team8 doesn't stand a chance!
Oh and KT vs EG-TL will go into ace match with Flash, Action and Crazy-Hydra taking their matches. (Assuming JD will be able to beat won-won-won coming his way from Stats..)
I am very interested in Hwanni's decision if it comes to that - will he sent out JD as ace vs Flash...?

It's blind pick. Roll the dice, hope you get meaningful pairs. The only info coaches use is the maps. They try to pick a good player for the map, and possibly predict what player(s) could be chosen for that map by the other team.
new guy question: how are the players selected for each map? do both teams decide independently or what? do they know which map they are sending each player to ahead of time?

Ye they know the map ahead of time but both teams choose their player without knowing who they other team chose.

Jaedong wishes the opening game was vs Flash in his interview with Thisisgame. Flash probably would enjoy that too. The other 6 teams probably wouldn't mind. The teams of EGTL and KT could enjoy additional interest to them and to this match. Kespa/Proleague could enjoy additional interest.
Given all this, why not make it happen, just this one time? Just get agreement between all these parties and switch up Zenio and Jaedong? It's only for this one game, the opening game.

They won't send them for the ace match, particularly not Jaedong. Flash is more likely, yes.
Anyway, the opening game is very important for first impression. Everyone remembers how GOM made it so that Idra would play in the first game ever of the very first GSL.

EG-TL actually got a good chance for the proleague, with teaja comming back as the ace later.
Kinda sad that TL is not going to send people like ret, tlo.. or bringing someone like Nony as a coach ( same for incontrol, could be a awesome coach for the team )

Ehh Thorzain just kind of randomly goes gosu mode and wins against incredible odds more than most foreigners. Would watch out for him.
His TvZ was actually good in Iron Squid compared to how it usually is imo. Seems to have lost that frustrating spoon terran syndrome he used to have in the mu.

Yes it's English, DoA and MonteCristo will cast... The latter is OGN's LoL caster that will replace Moletrap because everyone and their mom was complaining about how bad Moletrap was when he casted the OSL.
Although this is only for weekend matches, we dont have any info on weekday matches. Also dont have any info about the access to the VoDs (I guess they will be paid, the question is how much).
EDIT: DoA + Montecristo cannot cast weekday Proleague, since they are casting OGN LoL at that time.
It's $6 a month to watch in HD and VODs (360p live is free)... The majority of your questions are all found on the twitch page...
Pretty confident with Flash v Zenio after his games against DRG. Seemed like he had it under control IMO. Never liked P7GAB back in BW, but I haven't seen him in action so far. Didn't catch mutch of last season's proleague. ThorZaIN's TvZ is quite solid, so I'm guessing he could take out Action. JD has been lacking so badly since the switch, So Stats'll do him in. Hope we get to see Mind v PuMa, that should be good. Mind wasn't the best TvTer back in the day, but he was good enough. SHould beat PuMa now.
Does anybody know the time the EG-TL vs KT is going to start off? Should be 13.00 KST right?
The lineup for EG-TL doesn't look particularly strong for the first match. However I don't really know the quality of KT's roster, except for Flash...we'll see.

You're kind of surprised that they put players on specific maps knowing only the map and not knowing the player the opposing team will also put on the map?

Saturday at 7 PM PST/10 PM EST AKA 2 hours before GSTL finals.
Yep. Saturday, Dec 08 3:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) and Sunday, Dec 09 3:00am GMT (GMT+00:00). I'd prefer it if it was either 3-4 hours later or earlier... oh well, there are too many timezones T_T
As a Liquid fan, I kinda think the first match we are very likely to lose to KT due to experience and maps. I believe KT got to practice on new maps longer + the TL-EG team just got set up so everything is not fit in place yet.
Flash > Zenio Wooki < JYP Action < Thorzane (two possible win for EG-TL since one is PvP and another is TvZ on Antiga) Stats = Jaedong (No clue who would win but it's Ohana so I would say Stats has advantage). Crazy-Hydra > Huk (New Map and Huk is not performing very well lately) Mind > PuMa (No idea how good Mind is but PuMa does not really show any result right now and it's a new map).
So I would say it depends on Jaedong's performance on Ohana that would lead EG-TL to victory the first week.

Good question. Can't even remember the guys name now.

He's KT.Lizzy (or KT.Motive if you like that name better )
I'm love this Proleague. I will watch this time because last time I dislike the hybrid format. Now it's only SCII it's much better imo. EG/Liquid Fighting !
I'm really looking forward to the TvT on Arkanoid between Puma and Mind, also Thorzain vs Action on Antiga. HuK vs CH on Bifrost too, damn. Dear vs Bisu Caldeum, Bogus vs Rain Ohana, Hyvva vs Best Bifrost and another TvT on Arkanoid with Classic and Fanta.
Opening day is gonna be gooood.
Jaedong playing for EG-TL is going to be so weird.
Oh hey it looks like Ssak retired, that's too bad.

I would be looking forward to that TvT if i knew what shape puma is in right now. I haven't seen him play any broadcasted games for what feels like months. Wonder what that's all about...

He had some injury (I think an eye one), they mentioned it on NASL a couple of weeks back, hope he is back in some form now.

I don't think you should underestimate any Kespa player. Those players might not have been top tier in BW but everything changes in SC2. Jaedong hasnt showed anything in SC2, yet people assume that he will be the monster he was in BW. He needs to show this to everyone first. The same goes for the whole T8 lineup! they all get a fresh start with showing their SC2 skills. Some of them might be better at SC2 than BW. Time will show how good these teams truly are.
Just when I thought I had my fill of SC2 for a while, the new Proleague starts! I am so excited for day 1! I hope Liquid and EG don't let all the pressure and expectations get to them.
Its so weird seeing Boxer as head coach in a team league with Jaedong on a foreign team. Its just really hard to get my mind around its so weird. Is it a problem that SKT1 and Samsung Khan having such small squads compared to the other teams?

I'd be most worried about Team 8. Losing their biggest name and only left with nine players. It's not like KeSPA or the other teams would let the 8th team die, but they are still likely to have rough time.
I´d love to see EGTL winning this match, but are they?
flash vs zenio: race favours zenio, flash might be the slightly better player: 0-1 (but as good as 50/50) wooki vs JYP: JYP has a good shot on this, his pvp is better than his tvp an worse his zvp: 0-2 action vs ThorZaIN: zvt is zerg-ground, T-Zain will not change this. action is good enough: 1-2 stats vs Jaedong: Ohana is perfect for toss all-ins. JD is not the beast as he was in BW: 2-2 crazyhydra vs HuK: HuK did so perfectly well at IPL 5, but he loses against top-zergs: 3-2 Mind vs Puma: Puma is not on top atm. Demus TvT is much better: 4-2
I hope im wrong! KeSPA: Please give us an english broadcast!!
Good luck to EGTL, but honestly the awesomeness that KT is won't make me change allegiances. I hope Mind will steamroll PuMa like he did with Bisu the other day, KT Hwaiting!
Seems kind of pointless to team up and enter when most of the actually good players aren't going to be playing (Taeja, Stephano, Hero). Both teams should cut the B level players (AKA the majority) and try for more Koreans.
EG-TL will have a huge disadvantage in that their opponents will have tons of vods to study. The KESPA coaches will have them figured out so much they'll find out what EG-TL had for breakfast if they have to.
I am also another person who does not know a lot about the kespa teams since i never watched pro BW. is there any way someone could give me like a general comparison to relate a kespa team to an esf team (for example, skt is like? ) or are the teams too different to do that? Im not sure who to cheer for besides EG-TL because i only know the really obvious kespa players ^^

KT = rival to SKT, take your pick of Startale / IM rivalries, or EG. Has traditionally had really great rosters and player (Nada, yellow, Nal_ra, Reach) buys but always failed to capture league wins or individual league wins (KT academy curse) until flash came through.
MBC Game Hero = (take your pick of teams that lost star players) Had alot of potential when they had both Sea, Light, and Bisu at one point, but light and bisu got bought out to other teams and they never captured another team league win again. Now defunct
Woongjin Stars = (Acer?) Strong Zergs traditionally in Zero / Soulkey and strong TvZ player light who was a buy from MBC Game Hero, they also had decent protoss' in free, their terran line is usually regarded as an in-joke because they were terrible. This is contrasted with:
Samsung Khan = (Hard to say which team has the strongest protoss' since there's only been 2 GSL protoss champions in SC2) Strong protoss' traditionally in Stork / Jangbi with good rookie terran reality, Stork and Jangbi are both strong contenders for individual leagues.
CJ Entus = (IM in team league) has extremely "deep" line up with the most consistent A level players in Leta, Skyhigh, Effort, Movie, etc who are all championship material, but never manages to pull through in team leagues. CJ also has exception zergs in Effort / Savior that has a rivalry with Woongjin for strongest individual zergs.
Hwaseung OZ = I guess TL since Taeja / hero used to carry them? Need I say more?, now defunct.
STX Soul = Take your pick of underdog team. You would be hard pressed to find fans of STX, their most consistent player now is Bogus and some promising rookies in Mini and couple of others.
WemadeFox = Used to house some notable players such as Roro, Mind, Rock and is one of the older teams, but is now defunct.
Airforce Ace = There isn't a comparable example. Special team for retiring players and people going through the military term requirements in Korea, made by boxer. Hosted alot of past famous players like Iris, Midas, firebathero, etc. Now defunct.
Team 8 = Used to be the dream team and now all hopes are gone, so I guess slayers in SC2 up to dissolving? The merger between all the star players from WemadeFox, MBCGame Hero, and Hwaseung OZ. Had Sea / Jaedong / Baby / Jaehoon. But now is in dire straits.
Usually the team leagues are tiered off like this:
SKT / KT + CJ = tier 1 / 1.5 Khan / Stars = tier 2 Hero / OZ / Soul / Fox = tier 2.5 Airforce Ace = tier 3 but everyone loves ace.

Quoting this cuz it seems unfortunate for such a nice post to get buried at the bottom of a page.
Also tiny caveat that we (CJ) totally won last season. :D But yeah your point still very much stands. And I agree with much of this!

The picks are made by both teams blind, as in they cant see what the other team's line up until both are revealed. Proleague match ups making and map analysis is one of the trade marks of the BW league, alot of mind games goes into it.
The coaches seem to be convinced that Arkanoid is a Terran map, we have 7 T and 1 Z sent out on it.
Other than that there's a real lack of mirror matchups, which is a problem PL used to have. Lots and lots of mirrors in the most recent PL seasons, we'll see how it develops.

Hehe this is just like picking a faction to play in Medieval 2 Total War
A piece of missed trivia: Boxer personally selected Best as the captain of SKT this season, with the permission of the entire coaching staff, instead of letting the team vote on who the captain should be (S2 for last season). It's best's first time in his career to be the captain of SKT despite his performance in 2008.
