Today Team Acer can announce the addition of former SlayerS members Mun "MMA" Seong Won and Hong "Cella" Seung Pyo to our StarCraft 2 squad, as player and coach respectively.
"I am very happy to have met the people and the team. I didn't expect that I would meet people like them. Because of these people and this great environment, I will be able to show great results and I will work hard. Please look forward to my future successes and cheer for me. Team Acer Fighting!"
In a snippet from a lengthy statement Cella explained:
"I was very worried about adapting to a new team, so I really couldn't pick which would be the right team for me. But it was Force Panda Fred's encouragement which moved me and drove me to a decision. I had a lot of talks with Acer and since it sounds like our goals and desires match quite well, I've got no regrets about the decision. We'll do nothing but work hard to achieve those goals. Although right now I cannot say what kind of results I'll show you, I can say that I'll strive to show you something."
The announcement, including statements from Team Acer management, can be read at Team Acer.

On another note though won't there be communication or timezone issues between cella and the non MMA players? I guess cella could put the English together to speak to them but coaching from Korea to Europe is hardly ideal.
Wow, so Cella was the mystery Zerg, haha. Awesome pickups, I'm especially happy that Cella also found a good team. Now that he is hired as a coach, does that mean that Acer's Korean line up will be increased further? I mean his English is certainly good enough to coach foreigners as well, but for Koreans it's probably so much better. Acer was a European powerhouse before, now it just got that much better, congrats to all involved!
Cella was one of SlayerS coaches. A very awesome one who's interacted a lot with the foreign community and casters. He also competed in GSL during the first few seasons.
Nerchio, Scarlett, Bly, and now MMA & Cella (not to mention Paranoid, DarkHydra and Kaoru, but they are clearly not at the same level) Granted they lack depth in Protosses, but I'm sure they'll find something.
Did not expect Acer to go after MMA (although when you think about they should be able to pay for his salary). Cella has proven to be a good coach and I guess he was brought in to act a medium between the zerg players and MMA.
All we ever heard was Axiom...EG...Axiom...EG. Then BOOM Acer
Yeah this is my favorite team too now. MMA my favorite Terran and Scarlett in my top 5 favorite foreigners (it changes a lot depending on whose winning, probably goes BabyK, Scarlett, Stephano, Thorzain, Nerchio ATM)
EG would be my favorite but it feels like Stephano is their only player doing anything lately, happy to see Idra play well though, hoping Thorzain takes to HotS.
WoW wtf, EG dirty money let me down, was hoping MMA would join my favorite team. I didn't see this coming. Grats to MMA, Cella, and Acer. Will be awesome to see how nerchio and Scarlett improve with these two on the team.
FUCKING HUUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEE PICKUP FOR ACER huge gratz to mma, cella, and acer also really happy to see cella back :D
haha, two huge fan favorites i always liked Cella and the drama didn't change what i think about MMA either. although he never was my fav player anyway :p
wow, I guess EG didn't really want MMA after all? I was hoping he'd go to EG. Also itneresting that MMA and cella went to the same team when cella backed up jessica in her trashing on MMA and crank.
I'm glad MMA did well, but picking up an experienced Korean coach is huge for Team Acer; hoping to see the team produce more results to match in the future.

Or MMA didn't want EG after all.
Damn..... Could you please be polite and consider the other option ?
First Scarlett, then MMA, poor Nerchio. Things are going super great for Acer, A similar story was EG's with HuK's and PuMa's pickups (and kinda overshadowing IdrA at the time). One thing is for sure, there will be no curse involved, haha.

Don't see how Nerchio is getting overshadowed, he is getting great success lately.
For anyone that watches American Baseball...MMA to Acer is like last year when Cliff Lee was "choosing between the Yankees and the Rangers" and then all the sudden "Cliff Lee signs with the Philadelphia Phillies"...
Wtfmate? Totally caught off guard.
Great pickup for Acer on both accounts. Cella is a sick coach who's presence should help improve their zerg-centric team. Hopefully this experience brings MMA back to his former TvZ specialist self.
EPIC PICK, Epick? Team ACER has done such a great move :>! MMA Scarlett Nerchio, Cella (HOLYCHECK!) this LU seems soooo strong. Wish them the best for the future.
HELL YES ! <3 Cella <3 MMA, ACER FIGHTING. Can you imagine, how beastly will all Acer get if they get to practice with MMA and vice versa ? + Cella's coaching Nerchio [ at least from replays etc. ] holy shit batman.

nice to see they have found a team but why acer!
Huh? Acer is a huge company, if they wanted to they could make this one of the best funded teams in eSports.
Great news!! MMA has so much potential if given the right conditions and Cella is a great coach as well as one of the most lovable personalities in SC2. So happy to hear this! Grats Cella, MMA and Acer!
Congrats to both players! Stoked to see a terran play when I'm watching Acer team leagues...also stoked to see how the addition of such a high end practice partner and such a reputable coach impacts the play of Scarlett in particular...but all of team acer.
Wow i was next expecting this! :D Awesome news that MMA and Cella are on Acer! 2013 is going to be insane for Acer with Nerchio Bly Scarlett MMA I hope they'll pick up a protoss player though
When Acer announced another Zerg yesterday I kind of cringed, but Cella as a coach is perfect =) Not to mention MMA. I hope he finds great success and happiness with the team, good luck to them and congrats to Acer. Even more excited to see how they do in team leagues now ^^
OMG, I really hope MMA lives up to his best TvZ rep now with training partners like Nerchio and Scarlett, and ofcourse they will get amazing ZvT as well. I'm kinda happy, cuz he finally found a team and is with Cella, but...I really hoped he joins Axiom and reunite with Ryung, Crank and Miya. Oh, well, I love them both so, BEST OF LUCK!
As with everyone else, it's a unexpected move for me but I think it's an excellent one. I was literally just thinking to myself yeserday how Acer only has 2 well known players in Scarlet and Nerchio.
As much as I would have loved to see him in Axiom, I believe an established team (EG, Acer) is a better fit for MMA. Hope to see him back at his best soon.

Scarlett has a 5-1 tournament record against Nerchio though

I mean, getting MMA is huge for Team Acer, i don't think anyone expected that... but also getting Cella, aka investing in a proper coach? That's a great step forward, I love it :D
Won't it be funny if they both leave within 2 weeks like all of the other KR players who joined foreigner teams?? I am really interested in seeing what all Cella does, because if it's just MMA he's coaching (it says Asian coach..?) then I don't know how significant it is to have him on the team, though that pretty much depends on how much of a salary he'd be getting. I hope for the best for the both of them though.
Having a player of MMA's caliber is going to help Acer so much, i can only imagine how ridiculously good Nerchio and Scarlett are going to get with his as a practice partner. Bright future for Acer!
But I'm not going to lie, I was hoping for MMA to join Axiom, but that's more because I love TotalBiscuit and I would love to see his team succeed. Oh well.
On November 21 2012 06:41 Blargh wrote: Won't it be funny if they both leave within 2 weeks like all of the other KR players who joined foreigner teams??
No, because in contrast to said foreigner teams, Acer is a well-established team that did not just appear out of the nothing in order to buy a bunch of Koreans.
The f...? Wasnt MMA about to go to EG/Axiom? Maybe his "market value" decreased considering his recent performances and he wasnt interesting for the other teams anymore?

If you can read french, there is a nice interview ok Kaoru, the manager from Acer who explains how he was able to steal MMA from EG.

Grats to MMA and Team Zerg Acer! I'm so glad that MMA has chosen one of my favorite teams I can't wait to see him in team leagues and at events in green!
Huge pickups by acer. Nice to see cella found a new team to work with, he did such a good job with slayers as they emerged as a team to be reckoned with

I think it's likely something like this.
I mean Acer Esports has been DYNAMITE for their sponsors. Picking up Scarlett right before she started assuming total dominion over the North American scene, and Nerchio is playing better than ever as well, taking down WCS Poland and placing top eight at WCS Europe, not to mention the double Acer finals at DH Bucharest. So it wouldn't be so hard for someone in Acer E-sports management to say to their parent company: "hey, we need some additional investment capital to continue our rapid expansion of our e-sports division."
So the German team with the French pandamanager scores. "GRATZ !", as Stephano would say.
And Cella seems to thank Jessica and BoxeR profusely in his introductory statement, hehe...
Finally, I want to say “I love you” to SlayerS Jessica, who even now has sacrificed so much and put in so much effort and so much of her heart. And to Yohwan, who was always the encouraging pillar of support when things were hard, and was always able to see the road ahead and light the way when things seemed dark, I want to say that I will forever be grateful.
Good to see that Acer is in it for the long haul in SC2. MMA & Cella hwaiting!
This is a cool move. Would love to see Acer in the GSTL if they ever had the chance. MMA, Nerchio and Scarlett coached by Cella would be a very fun to watch. Also they're bright green, so they'll stand out against the whites, blacks, and oranges every team in Korea is currently wearing.
I'm a little indifferent about MMA after that whole Slayers situation, but congrats all the same. I think all the Acer zergs can benefit greatly from Cella's coaching now, I am really excited to see his impact on the team!
sick pick up, MMA is amazing and cella is just an awesome individual. Glad they finally found a team, hopefully everything works out for them this time.

Nice pickup! I don't remember which tournament it was, but Stephano was on a winning streak, and then he had to face MMA which ended up in MMA trolling stephano with 10 nuclear launches. It was epic.

Cella is definitely the bigger pick-up here. Expect the other members to benefit greatly under him. This is all an assumption, though, as personally if I picked up Cella and MMA I would isolate them from the team - keep them in their own zone and expand that zone as a separate entity under the Acer name (like FXO Korea and FXO EU).
On November 21 2012 10:29 DinosaurJones wrote: MMA is going to be the best at TvZ, Seriously. MMA will be the BANE of zergs everywhere.
I disagree, but I'm hoping to be proven wrong.
MMA perhaps had the best TvZ in the world long before the rise of the "Patchzerg" (sorry for the lack of a better term), his style is completely countered by what Zergs are used to doing these days. Who knows, maybe he can pull an MC with the direction he's going. He also had a personal trainer who basically fed him the strategies and build orders.
I wonder... Scarlett said one of the reasons she joined Eclypsia was they talked about sending her to Korea. I know she wanted to get over there to play.
Now Acer has a great coach (CELLA!) and the token Terran (MMA, who is not just a token). They could potentially have a house set up and ship over their Zergs for some training time and maybe get involved in the team leagues.
Mad congrats to MMA and Cella, though. I guess if they're both on the same team, they can't have been too upset with each other at any point in that whole drama fest. (Then again, Cella seems like an amazingly cool, laid back guy.)
BUT, really now... Acer is becoming a great team. They still need a token protoss, though.
if you read from teamacer's website it sounds like they are starting to explore the asian market so this will not stop. Now acquire Alicia (MLG runner up) to boost your team!
WHAT. Acer wasn't even on the cards with all this Axiom/EG hype. So did NOT see this coming. Congrats to all parties, really hoping this turns out well for you guys. ^^

As far as premium league performance/results are involved, MMA is the most accomplished (even though we haven't seen him around for a long time) and Scarlett being a continental champion and beating him in a straight match-up. My thoughts were more concentrated on the near future, when Scarlett may attend more offline tournaments and MMA gets back in shape. But we'll see.
Don't be misled by the association with EG, Nerchio is still a beast but I gave mma and scarlett a slight edge there.
Sudden Acer pick up hahaha. Cool stuff So Cella will become like MMA's personal coach or something eh? Except for foreign events where he might be able to help the other players
Also, anyone else thinks the poster looks like a zombie apocalypse movie poster with its green hue on MMA and Cella?
Congratulations on finding a new team. Tell us how you feel about getting in to Acer?
I am very glad that I was able to join a team like Acer. I received a lot of offers from many teams but back in May during the Iron Squid Chapter 1, I got to meet the manager of team Acer, Fred "Kaoru" Gau, and he approached me with such vigor that the process got handled pretty quickly.
So Fred Gau approached you first?
That's correct. When the news about me talking to Axiom and EG got released, he contacted me straight away. He kept asking for a chance and very strongly voiced his desire for me to be on team Acer.
After SlayerS disbanded, you must have received a ton of offers. Tell us why you chose Acer.
It's true that I received a lot of offers. But most of their contracts did not really fit what I wanted. Personally, I really wanted to feel liberated after joining a team and Acer turned out to fit every single one of my needs.
So what's going to happen from here? Are you going to move overseas?
Nope. I will leave Korea when I need to attend overseas tournaments but I will continue to live in Korea.
Your new teammates are players like Scarlett and Nerchio. Practice must be difficult with players like them.
I don't know yet but I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen. I think for the time being, I'm going to have to practice alone in Korea.
What are your future plans?
For now, all my focus is on Code A and IPL 5. And right now, I am participating heavily in NASL and Iron Squid Chapter 2 online matches.
Are you liking the terms of your new contract?
Absolutely. I feel like I've been given the best offer out of every single Korean player so far.
Tell us about your future goals.
I am so glad I was able to join a great team like Acer. I'm going to make sure I repay them for giving me such a good deal by delivering phenomenal performances. I hope my fans will lie in eager anticipation for me.
Something does not feel right when saying Acer'MMA instead of SlayerS.MMA but I'm very glad MMA has been picked up by a team. A international one at that as well. Good luck MMA.

one word : CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
man i think with these two new additions Acer is easily moving to the top of the list for favored teams for me
Definitely not where I anticipated MMA would end up. Very cool though, hope he can return to his former glory. Also excited to see Cella acquired with MMA, although I thought that Cella might have gone to Axiom considering Ryung, Miya, and Crank were there. Anyhow, congrats to Acer, MMA, and Cella.
Hah I'm taking credit for MMA not going to EG on this one I saw the MMA interview where he said that his hands would cramp up after playing 20 games in a day, and emailed Geoff pleading that EG don't pick him up as he was just after money and not a good future prospect!
It would be cool if Acer could afford to set up a house in Korea where MMA, Nerchio and Scarlet would all live and train but without that I am not sure, is Cella coaching across two continents really going to rub of on Nerchio and Scarlet? Is MMA going to get better by playing cross-server against GSL B-ers?
Acer really needed a good terran. This is quite perfect. Now MMA can get some great TvZ practice and the rest of the zergs in Acer can learn from him. Don't know how much they will actually play with each other as KR-to-EU pings aren't exactly perfect. But still lots of positive things can come out from this.

Never judge by a single GSL tournament. Too many factors involved to call anything.
I hope that with the backing of ACER MMA can come back to his prime. Back when he was at the top at his game he was my favorite Terran player, and I definitely hope he comes back to such level for my own entertainment.

Well it was the case at the time WCS Korea was done. So then there was only toss as koreans in the WCS world. But very recently, it looks very hard to be a protoss against zerg. Those timing attacks (PartinG www) have worked for a few weeks but now it looks almost over (unless the execution is perfect and you're opponent has not read your strat well enough).
This will mean a lot to current players to get a coach with experience. MMA, well I not sure he will help anyone but maybe this helps him to start playing well again.
I gotta say i am happy he's not with EG, not because he does not belong there but let's be honest EG is bloody stacked already it's good to see more foreign teams with Championship calibeur players then EG and Liquid.
Grats to MMA, Cella and Team Acer. If MMA finds his pasion again and puts the past troubles behind him, he's going to be right back up there with the best terrans out there.

Hwanni is only a consultant and he didn't do anything gameplaywise in fnatic as well.
As far as I know, Cella prepared strats for SlayerS players in the GSTL etc. It would have been exciting to see what he could have moved if he had joined the EG house.

it is very unlikely, MMA does not like to stream and it is not in Acer's policy to force player to do so.
Cella is a GREAT pickup. Only time will tell just how much he can make Acer a more attractive option to Koreans.
The only question I have is one that is born out of ignorance, because I know very little about Korean society. That is how are subjects like transgenders handled within Korean society? Or need I not be worried?

Not really ... i think MMA wanna join team with Cella .. and EG already got Hwanni , so they didint need cella.. imo But this is only my speculations .. not facts..
Hwanni is only a consultant and he didn't do anything gameplaywise in fnatic as well.
As far as I know, Cella prepared strats for SlayerS players in the GSTL etc. It would have been exciting to see what he could have moved if he had joined the EG house.
And you are wrong sir.. Hwanni was Fnatic menager , you was taking care of Fnatic Kr house , was taking care of players when they leave for event.. , was a translator for them etc etc
Its make no sense for EG to hire Hwanni and Cella in the same time , but its only my opition

You have to admit it´s working out kinda well for Acer. If they now start exporting that shit, they will be a tip top economic monoculture in no time. And that means, big cars, fancy uniforms and civil unrest in no time. And bitches.
