As a terran, who started watching tournaments during the golden GomTvT days, I actually don't think I'm gonna tune in, when a tournament doesn't feature any of the matchups I'm interested in, with only three or so players I care about

My dark horse pick to win this tournament is Kingkong.
my real pick ton win would be Sniper depends on who qualifies in the open bracket though.

Kind of lackluster? Unfortunate, this could have been a great tournament. Not sure who will be in open bracket but it feels like someone can just come through there and take this. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not very exciting groups right now..

so that's what a 2races game looks like, as much as I usually enjoy IEM that's not enough diversity for me to watch.

bye proann

To be fair if I had to pick a Singaporean for a hilarious upset I'd pick him. The guy carrier rushed Tgun out of the first round of some tournament, it was beautiful.

I hope some good Terrans make groups but I'm not counting on it. I suspect viewership on both IEM and BWC are going to be hurt by the lack of Terrans that have a reasonable chance of winning.

I'll check out the finals though, and maybe some MC games hoping for a ceremony.

I'm gonna hope no terrans qualify through the brackets either. Maybe the low representation rate will give blizzard some motivation. DB didn't really sound pleased in that forum message about infestors, so maybe this will help him realise the problem a little bit more.

meanwhile lets bet on when it turns into a zvz only tournament:

Yeah the winning of best Terrans ( (T)Bomber (T)SuperNova (T)IMmvp (T)ForGG etc... ) at Cologne has reverted Raven buff, creep nerf. Hope this time will make blizzard think about it again

If the IEM folks are smart, they should change their tournament setup. They should remove the open brackets this time and just invite some Terran and Protoss players. Otherwise this tournament may have a record slump in viewers, considering ZvZ and to some extent ZvP is the most hated viewership matchup.

My personal match-up preference to watch is:
TvP
TvZ
TvT
PvP
PvZ
ZvZ

while I am biased (I am a terran player...) the bottom line is that there is no way I'll watch this tournament with all the other tournaments going on when there are zero terrans in this one.

I want to tune in to see how Vortix does but the lack of terran representation is going to keep me from actually caring about this tournament.

At least DH Winter has 5 (out of 20) seeded players as terran.

Also (code s spoiler):

At least 1 terran guaranteed into Code S ro4 -- thankfully

It's the zerg golden age and i love every minute of it :D

Also if Grubby practices his PvZ i think he's go a good shot to get to the finals.

Demuslim and Illusion but no Lucifron? That would be a sad thing. + P/Z have no panzers, so Goody would need to be T as well.

At topic: I think because of so many zergs being there, the protosses have actually a higher chance of getting far, because everyone will pcratise ZvZ. Because of this I consider MC to be the favorite, followed by Sniper and Vortix.

Btw.: To everyone complaining about no terrans, pls remember IEM Kiev 2011 with a playing field of 10 terrans, 2 Protoss and 0 zergs.

I really think they should invite some Terran players. Yes i know that some people might think that it is unfair, but any match up is better when there is a Terran involved.

That would be worst thing I can imagine. IEM is consisted in giving chance to these players who are good enough to qualify, and not to "stars" who got a big name. And they are proud of it and they are happy to give best playing players a chance to show off.
Please be patient.

Man, when's the last time a foreign Terran has done anything? I can only recollect Thorzain winning against Nani in a TSL. Has any foreign Terran gone top 3 in a major tourney recently? DH/GSL/IEM/NASL/IPL et all?

I would agree to the theory, but looking at the player list, you can't exactly say its the top representation of skilled players no?

The only league that u can watch right now is really GSL, sure theres a little lack of P right now, but u can get that in WCG (: Its really the only show to see top class TvZ, and not rofl stomp winfestor and gglord like in every foreign tournament.

Lets hope there are a few korean terrans attending the open, if not this will be really, REALLY boring.

I actually can't wait to see Iron Squid starting, they have great production and arguably one of the best lineups anyone could imagine. They said they'd release the groups this week, too, I'm excited to see a tournament with decent race distribution.

Its sad so many are complaining about the lineup. IEM does only open qualifiers and no invites.
Every player can qualify for this. Its nice to see new names who deserve a chance than just inviting the same guys as every other tournament.

Edit: Very unfortunate that we have no terrans so far (they can come through the open bracket).
But a lot complained also about the quality of the players.

Unlike last IEM, PiG got a group he can definitely advance from. If he gets mid level Protosses and Zergs who don't have ridiculous ZvZ from open bracket he'll be set.

ProAnnn has pretty damn good PvZ, I don't think he can beat Sniper but he should have a decent shot against sLivko. Highly doubt he has any chance at advancing though.

I feel a bit sorry for Blizzard. Because Korean terrans are doing decent, compared to foreign terrans who are non existent. So if they buff terran, then there may be an imbalance in Korea. Perhaps the zerg nerf may help...either way we are going to need a foreign terran hope to emerge...

And those qualified players are nothings and no one's... Grubby? Maybe the only real person worth watching, everything else is a mess... The reason no one else qualified is because tournaments invited the players that would breeze these qualifications. This is why IPL 5 has such a stacked lineup (add the GSL) while IEM has... slivco? and sad to say it but White-Ra? White-Ra is the equivalent foreigner to Boxer, I can't see him making anymore of a splash than he already made.

Well, I live in Singapore, and had high hopes of meeting my protoss idols.

My wish is granted, with MC, Grubby and Whitera here. However, overall the lineup of players seems extremely underwhelming. Disappointed, but will still go to get MC/Grubby's signatures

Unfortunately Golden will be dropping from this event. A bit of a last minute team decision, so I don't think we will be able to get a replacement out there from the America's side. SsonLight and Killer are still representing though!

Carmac tweeted that there are korean terrans attending in the open bracket irc.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.

Sniper's tournament to take! If rated only by skill, he is by far the best in here.

Hi TeamLiquid,

I thought I'd give you a small update on the StarCraft II situation. Sniper has cancelled due to advancing into GSL RO8. IdrA cancelled due to scheduling problems. In addition to that Golden informed us that he would not come, same goes for Miya. The Chinese qualification was won by XluoS.

The replacement for Golden will be German Protoss Tarrantius, because no one else from the USA was available.

We are working on filling the last slots for the group stage before the Open Bracket starts on the 22nd. Stay tuned.

Sad that Miya is not going. Would've been a nice international debut for him on the new team, after the korean debut kinda failed

So many tournaments these days without Terran. If tournament over-saturation is a legitimate issue, then I think I'll start by avoiding events that lack Terran. All the best matchups have them .

At least Lucifron and Sting are there to get some Terran rep going.

I really really really enjoyed watching sc2 around 6-7 months ago when mma and drg were battling and t v z was fun to watch. Then blizzard came out of left field and the result...0 terran tournaments such as these.

Edit: Never mind about link issue, just wasn't loading on firefox.
Cool to see Lucifron participate.
Also, is there a different, Australian, Maru or is that a mistake with the Australian flag?
If that is Maru.Prime, it would be rather exciting.
