Lol @ people saying Rain made a bad decision.

Not only he won like 4k US$, but he probably had his best time since he started being a progamer.

4k is a lot less than what he could have won at GSL
and fighting through the jet lag/cold is not fun haha

You only get 4.2k by getting to the semis. Besides, I'm sure he enjoyed way more playing in front of a passionated crowd than in front of the empty/emotionless GSL crowd.

If he made the semifinals, he would have gone to IPL5.

mlg-kespa exclusive deal.
ipl5? yeah right.

So many people do not seem to get it.

Rain was given a seed into the most prestigious tournament in the world. He performed well and almost won it. Then, he forfeits his games in the next season at short notice in order to attend a different tournament. it is extremely disrespectful to the GSL.

What would people say if someone like Naniwa did the same thing? They would criticise him heavily.

I think that's the point alot of people don't get here... it's about respect. The GSL is the premier SC2 League in the world and there are thousands who'd die to be there... it was most probably poor planning on the part of Rain and SKT but that should get him a pass saying "oh the foreign crowds... oh the money"... if only he had qualifed through the MvP route, Flash got $7000 for beating code A and code B material plus a couple of foreigners...

I don't think so. The fact that so many Koreans don't get the chance to go to foreign tournaments, plus the fact that he made some money, plus he got to experience the foreign crowds and fans... I think it was a good experience overall for him.

What happens to his Code S spot? When Rain returns to Korea, where does he end up as far as the GSL is concerned?

Was stated in the OP, I think. He's treated as bottom of his group.

Ah, I see now. "He will be given the 4th place of Code S Ro32 Group D and is now placed in the Code A Round 1 bracket."

To me that isn't enough of a punishment. Maybe GOM is still afraid of KeSPA. They should have treated him like the other Rain.

It's another semi-drama that will soon fade from memory. Like when Stephano dropped out of a tourney cuz he was tired etc. Rain will win another tourney soon and the people will love him for it . No one should lose any sleep because he won't be in one season of GSL.

I keep a mental list of every scummy or remotely imperfect thing Stephano has ever done.

why are people questioning his decision?
whether it was good for him or not depends upon him, he might find going abroad for a new foreign tournament experience to worth forfeiting the spot, not just for the prize money. Meeting foreign fans seems to be a popular thing to do nowadays for korean pros.

Nobody is questioning the decision. We are questioning mentioning it at the last minute. I would have fully supported him if he mentions 1-2 weeks in advance, like everyone else.

Bad? GSL is 6 days a week (including GSTL) in a STUDIO. The whole league is structured around being watched elsewhere. You can't compare that to weekend tournaments.

Well OSL and Proleague are done in a similar fashion but at a larger location, thus allowing a good number of audience throughout the season. It's a pity the mokdong studio is so small.
