Not only he won like 4k US$, but he probably had his best time since he started being a progamer.

Yea, exactly my thoughts. And it's not guarantee he'd win GSL, so he'd probably earn the same amount of money, but with this he get to experience the foreign scene, a nice trip and get a little bit of different tournament experience which is very valuable.

Once again, the issue is not that he did it, but that he said it so late to GOM and now they are stuck with what to do.

Plus given his team is sponsoring his trip, a free vacation in the US.
Most Koreans love foreign travel and the US is a favored destination.

I think it was the correct decision, but if he would have told gom in the right time, that would have been a much better decision, since then he would participate in both tournaments.

I dont think that is an issue, considering what esf did to osl i think that gom has to accept this: it looks worse ongom if they get mad for rain wanting to go to gsl when gsl has accomodated in te past

GOM did not pull the ESF players out of the OSL. The ESF players did that themselves. Have people really forgotten why that happened? Because Kespa were trying to de-legitimize the GSL by pulling their players out while still having the ESF players playing in the OSL. How could anyone even think to blame GOM for that? They didn't instigate anything, they didn't make any decisions, it was kespa being shady and the ESF (not GOM) that punished them for that decision.

Not a bad decision at all. He did pretty well. Will have some time to practice more, had a good trip to MLG. He ll be ready to win code A anyways.

You cannot win Code A. Not since early 2011 anyways.

i mean win code S spot if that needs further explanation.

4k is a lot less than what he could have won at GSL
and fighting through the jet lag/cold is not fun haha

You only get 4.2k by getting to the semis. Besides, I'm sure he enjoyed way more playing in front of a passionated crowd than in front of the empty/emotionless GSL crowd.

So many people do not seem to get it.

Rain was given a seed into the most prestigious tournament in the world. He performed well and almost won it. Then, he forfeits his games in the next season at short notice in order to attend a different tournament. it is extremely disrespectful to the GSL.

What would people say if someone like Naniwa did the same thing? They would criticise him heavily.

Ah, you are one of those people that try to see it the way they want no matter what gets presented.
Unless its found out that GOM was behind it somehow, you can keep your conspiracy theories to yourself.
ESF maybe did it for GOM partially but they made the decision.

Just noting that this isn't just in favour of MLG, but also in favour of WCS world finals. Rain wants to be the first world champion.

If he made the semifinals, he would have gone to IPL5.

giving up a code S spot is big. maybe he doesn't regret it now, but I bet he will when he has to play a billion games just to get back to code S
