GSL has more view cause... OSL is on TV in Korea? So you don't count the online views like you do in the GSL?

gsl vs osl

at least osl allows korean stream through vlc and i cannot get the auction kr stream to work.
i have to pay for gsl korean, and only vods.

i hate em both for not taking care of koreans, outside korea.

That is the beauty of GSL, they don't interfere with the players and their careers. In fact GSL has always been accommodating towards players and their tight schedules as long as it's early notice.

hmm? wrong quote?

GSL does take care of korean players, especially outside of South Korea. But they don't have juristiction anywhere but GSL.

korean stream, meaning for korean viewers, i was talking about korean viewers living outside korea (they cannot watch korean streams).

i had to pirate osl to watch in korean

When you buy a GSL ticket you can watch it in Korean.

Okay I know I was boring you guys earlier with my expected value maths, but I couldn't stop thinking about this problem.

A more realistic Utility Function for Rain going to MLG would be something like this:

E(U) = (Prize Winnings x Probability of Winning) + (Net Benefit from traveling to a new country) + (NB of foreign sponsorship exposure) + (NB of foreign fan exposure) + (NB of personal reasons)

like this maybe...

E(U) = ($25000 x .25) + ($1000) + ($5,000) + ($2,000) + ($1000)

E(U) = $15,250

vs if he Stayed in Korea and played in GSL:

E(U) = ($50,000 x .25) + ($0) + ($0) + ($0) + ($0)

E(U) = $12,500

Both scenarios assume a 25% chance of winning the Finals. I just chose some educated guesses as numbers to include in the example.

As someone who rarely watches the games and just checks results, I personally prefer the GSL because of the format. Granted, I've only followed the OSL for one season, but it seems like it's just straight up qualifiers, 2 bo1 group stages, followed by a single elimination tournament with a couple seeds thrown in from the previous season. GSL results are much more intriguing since every match is important (with the except of Code A ro32) and ties together with the next season. And all in all just a lot more content. (They do the same preliminaries and main tournament except with bo3 groups AND have all of Code A and Up/Downs).

Also, at least for this past season, I'd say winning Code S was a much more difficult feat than the OSL.

Hope Rain is happy with the decision whether he made it or not. Good luck!

Oh and lets not jump to any conclusions about KeSPA, keep the pitchforks away until more information is available.

Polt, Symbol and Inori all had places firmly in the MLG system, but declined their spots for a GSTL semifinal.

You also get foreign exposure (and thus sponsors) for winning GSL. Plus you have too many 'educated guesses' for this to work. Just seems like random numbers you pulled out.

I'd say winning a GSL is MUCH more prestigious than anything else out there. GSL has their stuff together; their website is amazing and the VODS, brackets etc... is so professional. SUPER user friendly and doesn't give away spoilers. GSL has the best casters in code S. Oh, and GSL has the best players playing.
MLG is good, but even if he wins MLG - it's nothing like winning in GSL. I wish they could have worked this out; but oh well.

My two favorite guys to watch right now are Rain and MVP.

Flying out to Dallas tomorrow...can't wait to cheer for Rain and I fully support him in his decision . Once he hears the roar of the crowd he will not have ANY regrets. Nor should he, he's just a kid and he wants to travel abroad and experience this.

Rain is being a HoneyBadger and not giving a fuck. I will be happy to see him rape the open bracket and possibly wining MLG.

I've seen many people reply the same thing to you, but maybe one more time works. The problem was never his decision, it was that he never informed GOM about his decision.

Well, let's all relax now. What most people have been saying is making sense. GSL may be more prestigious but, well, playing abroad in the US is something new to the Kespa pros and with BW dying, it was their sudden exposure to the foreign fanbase which has apparently motivated most of them to continue with the Starcraft franchise.

At first, I was irritated and I still do believe that much could have been done earlier to prevent this kind of conflict, heck, GOM moved the entire Group E to next week. Still, you can't blame Rain for going and I'm sure he, Kespa and Gom have learned from this.

I can just remember how I was almost brought to tears when the first wave of Kespa pros went to MLG's, they seemed so surprised that they had such a huge foreign fanbase. Now, they play not just for themselves AND Korean fans but for foreign fans as well. I'm sure Rain just couldn't wait to be a part of that. He's still young after all.

Again, I hope he pulls a Leenock and wins the entire tournament from the open bracket, he's such a smart player with safe enough play to guarantee that unless it's a top Korean cheesing him, he can probably survive enough to get to the groups.
