sad to see him drop out but it really says something about MLG and foreign events if he is willing to do this, pretty crazy

Maybe in the past but the recent OSL SC2 finals wasn't as packed and smaller than the GSL finals.

GSL built a huge part of the SC2 professional scene and to me, it's more prestigious than the OSL (at least in terms of SC2).

This is partly me being bias against KeSPA though (with how they tried to ruin GSL and stuff).

I definitely want OSL to succeed and to become another premier tournament but alongside with the GSL too.

OGN players do.

I'm pretty sure many ESF players who have been playing in Code A qualifiers/Code A/Code S for the past two years would much rather win GSL.

Yeah, what you said. Though in any case, personally I'd value GSL or OSL win over an MLG win.

No one remembers MKP winning MLG multiple times (or going head to head with DRG 3 times in a row) but everyone remembers GSL finals.

i think everyone remembers that lol.

I think in SC2, tournament prestige goes GSL>OSL>MLG>All

and the only reason OSL is on there is because of its Brood War history. my favorite player made the finals so I wont forget it, but for many it was a forgettable season. They have a lot of growing room.

It's too bad he didn't announce this earlier, so that another code A player could have been promoted to code S. Deprived us viewers of games we paid to watch.

Following the money and prestige, a sound decision imo.

I think a tournament populated by players from only one country will always have less appeal and prestige than an international tournament.

Im sure he realized winning MLG was significantly more probable then winning Code S (obviously not counting him out to win the tournament, but lets be real here)

I also agree that players should follow money and prestige, but he could have told GSL about his decision much earlier and not create a scheduling issue.

Except when said country proven time and time again it simply has the best players.
There is no way that MLG has more prestige in SC2 than the GSL.

No, GSL has more viewers because Mr. Chae caters to the foreign audience, makes content specially for foreigners, and even has headsets at the freaking studio/finals where foreigners can listen to Tastosis so they know what's going on. Compare that to OSL's foreign side of things.

Lagging stream.
Lagging VoD's.
Production value is awful for the English viewers.

If you watched the Legend of the Swarm episode from last week, there was a tooooooooooon of foreigners at the GSL finals. They had a much bigger crowd and it was a much bigger event. It's also a plus that their finals didn't stutter every five seconds and the VoD's didn't actually have the same laggy games on them.

even gsl pros know that the OSL is the big stage. dont kid yourselves

Ugh, stop with the prestigious stuff. Yes, MC and other former BW pros see the prestige in the OSL, but this is a new game. I am sure if you asked a lot of the ESF pros who have been busting their ass for the last two years to win a GSL if they'd rather win that or OSL, they'd pick GSL.

Eh, I just watched the auction KR stream and it was 100x better than anything GSL had ever produced. Never listen to commentary anyway, and as a fan from BW I believe the Kespa players are the superior RTS players so I much prefer the OSL.

Also, love the fact that it takes 1-2 hours to get through the OSL every day compared to 5+ hours for GSL.

The only reason OSL is quicker is because they have less games/series per day. OSL seems to actually have more downtime than GSL from what I watched.

Although MLG might be a good way to connect with American fans. Play some entertaining games, take some fan pictures, give out autographs, and perhaps shout out some memorable sound-bites or fancy ceremonies. It seems like a good way to build up some recognition from international fans without having too difficult of a competition to fight through.

OSL has a loooooot more downtime compared to GSL, but that's due to OSL being on television and GOM being online.

This sucks I was hoping to watch him in the GSL but I guess MLG will have to do. I would have figured he would win this season of GSL by how well he has been playing.

Sorta surprised by the GOM response. Feels pretty class to just give him 4th place rather than making him requalify, but I guess he is a big draw and they probably don't want to create any (further) tension between themselves and KeSPA.

I sorta hope he doesn't place too well (or at least doesn't win) MLG now.

Honestly it's easier money in a foreign experience, no reason not to, especially when he made the decision himself.

gsl vs osl

at least osl allows korean stream through vlc and i cannot get the auction kr stream to work.
i have to pay for gsl korean, and only vods.

i hate em both for not taking care of koreans, outside korea.
seriously, fuck em.

That is the beauty of GSL, they don't interfere with the players and their careers. In fact GSL has always been accommodating towards players and their tight schedules as long as it's early notice.

GSL does take care of korean players, especially outside of South Korea. But they don't have juristiction anywhere but GSL.

i had to pirate osl to watch in korean

But later rounds of MLG are gonna be populated by players from one country anyway,no?
