those were the days before large corporate sponsors, I garantee you that if a korean progamer made the same comments back in BW they would have been fined at the least. Welcome to the world in which foreign SC2 progamers are paid professionals and not just enthusiasts for a game.
They are celebrities and they represent a brand. If you get caught saying something like this in public, you will be punished. I'm fine with the joke he made, I'm also fine with him being punished for it.

Joke or not it's out there and was punished at it should be.
Real world example: Ribery.
Nothing happened to him.

and if a client of yours hears it an is offended and you business loses money because of it then I would guess that there would be some ramifications. Not to mention that these players are very public figures. If an pro sports player lets this exact joke out there would be all kinds of outcry. 1. it was not intended to be public. 2. ppl should not care. its his private stuff. 3. if some1 is offended due to talk about sexuality then its his problem. 1. It got out in public and not private anymore. 2. Same thing out in public and not his private stuff. 3. If someone is offended which they have rights to be offended, it is not there problem but Stephano for being offensive.

EG are his employer and those comments are not acceptable in a working environment. He represents EG. every time he opens his mouth or plays. well if EG didn't have a problem with Idra representing them with all the "fuck you"-s and ragequits then 1 month suspension is perfectly fine for a one time joke that wasn't even intented to be public But it was public.. that's the whole point. Have you ever heard someone apologize for something he said privately that wasn't leaked?

Btw in the pics from the conversation i see team dignitas and soundblaster in big letters and Bling going "hahahahhahhahaha" when stephano says he has abused a child. Looking at those pictues i would think dignitas would be pretty pissed off at bling tbh.

1. it doesn't matter if it was intended to be private, it went public 2. it's not private anymore. people do care, he is a public figure representing a company who pays him 3. it wasn't about sexuality, it was about child abuse. the joke wasn't about sex, it was about abuse, there is a very big difference.
personally I'm not offended by it, it's obviously a joke but i do find it interesting that people can't wrap their heads around why a company would suspend somebody in this situation. this would happen in any workplace where a comment could cost a company money and this action stops that.

if it was a joke why you give adamn .

The number of people "defending" him is laughable.
Welcome to the real world, kiddos.

So stupid. He made a bad joke, people need to calm the fuck down. The fact it was on a stream is the only problem really, and that wasn't stephanos fault.

lol i don't care about the joke. I just find it interesting the attitudes people are applying to business situations. Do you think any public figure could get away with a joke about child abuse? EG is in the right to protect themselves from potential financial harm. It doesn't really effect stephano much, he's got plenty of money and can still stream. People are directly confusing personal and business environments.

Dear SC2 professionals,
If you don't want fans calling sponsors, maybe you shouldn't say stupid shit on the internet. Professionals in real sports get suspended for less--a coach was fined $50k just for taking a referee's arm after a game. How many times was Ozzie Guillen fined for simply raging about the umpires after a loss? People working real jobs get fired for less, as well. While I'm aware that most of you are still kids, you forfeited the right to behave like kids when you became professionals. Professional doesn't just mean you're good at what you do; there's a standard of behavior involved, as well. You're not special. Thanks.
