When you hire a player like stephano you know he WILL do stuff like that, stephano is a real buzzmaker and he enjoys it. Millenium had to face those kind of situations and even worse a lot and they didn't go apeshit for it. Seriously EG i'm dissapointed. You're disappointed in EG that they hired a self-proclaimed rapist? I don't think EG was aware of that when they hired him. And I reeeeeally hope that Stephano was just trolling. Until we get further information that clarifies he actually sexually assaulted anyone, the assumption is that he was trolling. And the punishment is over-the-top bullshit. I agree we can assume (hope) that, but this is the worst attempt at a "joke" ever on his part. What an immensely immature thing to say. But you do realize this is Stephano- someone who's known for not only saying ridiculous things, but doing them too? It's not exactly the most absurd assumption in the world to think he was running his mouth off in a private conversation that he thought wasn't going to be streamed to the public, and then he backtracked and said it was only a joke (although I sincerely hope he was just trying to be funny, rather than him actually raping a little girl). Now you have to put faith in your team that they are actually not defending rapist.
EG's acquisition of Stephano almost made me switch my team icon back to SKT (it was SKT until the SC2 icons came out), but I like some of the other EG players too much at the moment.

Who knows what kind of fucked up sense of humor he has between himself and Bling? It wasn't even intended to be seen on stream anyways. Even if it's Stephano, I really doubt he's going to rape a 14 year old. How often does he elude to committing felony crimes punishable upwards of 10?If his humor is really that off-putting then rational people can think for themselves and declare they don't like nor want to support Stephano. Then they stop watching his stream and his games. That's it. I'm assuming they got their sponsors e-mailed when the comments were first made but I could be entirely wrong, which is why I'm not totally enraged just yet.
While I don't think he actually raped her, the argument of "Well he's never raped her before, so he probably didn't rape her this time" is pretty much the worst argument ever to defend someone accused of rape. Also, keep in mind he's already been arrested and he's known for pretty much being a jerk. But again, I'm just going to assume he was trolling in bad taste.

I guess EG can't handle to have a good player on their team

Ok so i dont know all details of US English, sorry my bad.
But still, why do american talk about "Rape" for "having consensual sex with a minor" ?! Thats kind of strange.
Statutory sex would match more the situation..

I can't decide as one of the older people here what's funnier -
1) Those trying to rationalize having sex with a minor 2) Those saying that child rape jokes are funny 3) Those who can't read a calendar and can't even figure out the length of the ban correctly 4) Seeing where the poster is from and then not being surprised by the content of the post 5) Those who still haven't figured out that there's more public scrutiny now than ever and you are responsible for everything you say no matter the context since the Internet won't care about context long-term.
Also, question - if sex with a 14 year old is funny, what about 12? How about 9? I want to know where the line is so I know how to craft my "jokes" for maximum effect.
Violentacrez approves of Stephano's joke (as he cries that his life is now ruined now that he's been outed).

This just makes me lose respect for EG. Stupid jokes leading into a suspension of their number 1 player, they should know better than to blindly follow reddit and the idiots on it.
-Teams should support and help their players instead of just suspend them everytime they make mistakes.

oh ok, what you have to do here is just flick that switch in your head that turns you from super serious mode in to funny ha ha mode, if stephano had only given you a 15 minute warning and charged you $10 for a ticket. youd be rolling on the floor holding your sides.

Honestly I don't get the difference. You say you "assume he was trolling" but you go into a comedy show assuming the same thing right? You wouldn't be laughing if you seriously thought the comedian on stage had actually done some of the things he was joking about, so why would you be upset with Stephano for making a joke and not someone else? Is it just the setting that you didn't like? Also he never used the word "rape" so I wish people would stop saying that.

thats what you get when you sign with a team that cares more about sponsors than it does SC2... sad day

Kind of funny how writing "lol JK" instead of "OMG I hope you didn't show this to all the viewers" would have turned things around at least 90%.. I'm sure he feels the same, and I sure as hell hope he didn't do what he was "joking" about.

Meh, even for the people defending the "joke" which was in extremely poor taste, EG has the right to suspend their players if they feel that their brand is misrepresented by his comments. At the end of the Stephano is an employee of EG, people have been fired for far lighter offenses in the real world, why would something like this not result in a suspension?
He fucked up the terms of his contract, I'd assume, and therefore he should pay for it.
|
I honestly think Stephano should try Suing EG for what they did, at least depending on what the player's contract says.
Frankly this whole incident makes me absolutely hate EG management, and in general like EG much less (to the point of dislike perhaps). I think it was a ridiculously stupid choice to punish someone to this extent, especially when it is done so quickly without warning or more discussion.

1. They were personal comments though — it's not his fault they were released to the public
2. Just because EG feels that it portrays them wrong, I don't think it gives them right to punish/react to it (although they can still do it). I think it's up to judge/jury/whatever to decide if his actions were representative of EG and if they were offensive enough to be a problem for EG's reputation (if Stephano wants to defend himself). A person can't just be offended, they have to be considered to have reasonable ground to be offended (something that others would agree with).

You can't joke about raping children. If it was even a joke, which is not really believable, given the words that were said and the context they were put in. Honestly, this isn't the last we will hear about this. I beg to differ. One of the jokes I tell that will get more laughs than pretty much every other one I know involves a guy having sex with a 13 year old girl.... Also, go see a Jimmy Carr DVD. He is one of the most successful comedians in the world right now and a joke of his (one of his favourite jokes I might add) goes as follows... I'll spoiler it so that anyone who doesn't want to be offended doesn't have to be + Show Spoiler +How do you know when your girlfriend is too young? You have to make the aeroplane noise to get your cock in her mouth. Sorry but that shit is funny. You don't have to mean it, its JUST A JOKE
If you were well known (celebrity), I know you wouldn't make that joke. Too smart.

What exactly did he say? I don't get it. This seems to harmless to be suspending him over, but I'm not one of the big guys over at EG or the sponsors, so I can't accurately comment on it. On the surface though, this seems way too harsh. He was trolling on Bling's stream? Big deal!
