It's that time again; a new season, a new shot at getting into Group Play at a live Championship, where you’ll compete for international bragging rights and a huge stack of cash. The Fall StarCraft II Online Qualifiers are about to begin, and you can be a part of it all.
In Fall, we will be running both Open and Invite-Only Online Qualifiers. Each Qualifier will run in three regions: NA, EU and KR. The top players from the Open Online Qualifiers will move on to the Invite-Only round. The top players from each region of the Invite-Only Qualifiers will win all-expenses paid trips to the Fall Championship in Dallas on November 2-4, where they’ll start in Group Play.
Later this week, we'll be contacting the players who have already earned the right to compete in the Invite-Only Online Qualifiers. This list includes the Top 88 from Raleigh, and more; see the full list of invited players. If you don't receive an invitation, don't worry--get a pass for the Open Online Qualifiers and that trip to Dallas could still be yours. Passes for the Open Online Qualifiers cost $10 and are on sale now.
Open Online Qualifiers KR: Sept 23 EU: Sept 25-27 NA: Oct 9-11
Invite-Only Online Qualifiers KR: Oct 7, 9 and 11 EU: Sept 29-30, Oct 2 and 4 NA: Oct 13-14, 16, and 18
Full round-by-round schedules will be released early next week. Stay tuned; we'll be bringing you more details about MLG's Fall Season for StarCraft II, and all other games, very soon!
An awesome way for some of those who struggle with the long battle that is open bracket developing stress and tiredness to get into group play :D Good luck to all who compete!

The 10 dollar fee for the open qualifier seems more of a deterrent of having 600 players trying to qualify that dont stand a chance, While having it stay an open tournament.

the online qualifiers are for group play. wouldn't be an open bracket if you had to qualify for it.

I agree there is really no point to the arena anymore when MLG can just invite 8 players to go into pool play. Whats the point of qualifying then?
On September 12 2012 12:42 tinaniur wrote: no arena?
I think that if we have no arena's and four MLG's a year spread out 2-3 months apart each MLG will be much more meaningful and much more hyped by the community, the summer championship came out of nowhere for a lot of people and I feel like the general consensus is that no one cared about it.
September 28-30: Fall League of Legends Arena – New York City, MLG Studio
September 23-Oct 11: Fall SCII Open Online Qualifiers - Online
October 7-18: Fall SCII Invite-Only Online Qualifiers - Online
October 5-7: Fall StarCraft II Arena – New York City, MLG Studio
November 2-4: Fall Championship – Dallas, TX, Dallas Convention Center
As you can see, it will be happening during the online qualification process this time. From Sundance's tweet, it appears to be more of a "special" event (hopefully with KeSPA players showing up this time) that might not have anything to do with the Championship. With the top 8 finishers from Raleigh being invited to the IOOQ, it's likely that the 24 Group Play seeds will be awarded from there.
The inital Arena seemed like it was most likely a success based on PPV and all the talk about it (negative or not, you know the saying, all publicity is good publicity). Later arenas likely didnt seem as hyped up and likely didnt yield the same profit. They tried making it free and eventually removing it completely. A bit sad, but understandable, flying 32ppl across the globe isnt cheap.
Obviously they need to introduce something else there will be an uproar about!

Yeah, but the thing is that passing the online qualifier does not guarantee you a seed in the mlg. You then need to pass another online qualifier with around 100 players to be seeded. I.e. basically you pay 10 $ to get a chance to stand at the same level as Desrow or Destiny, which is a bit hilarious if I look at the participants of the last Korean qualifier.
Gee, Life vs Curious. Random ass bracket meetup. >_>
Life won 2-0 according to match history. Seriously, Curious could muscle his way through any other bracket but he had to face one of the only players who could beat him in his best matchup. <_<
BTW how many people qualify to the Invite-Only Qualifiers through these qualifiers?

These are the open qualifiers. Invite-Only will probably include MKP, DRG, Polt, Symbol, etc. who have all done well at past MLG's.

The list of invited players for the invite only qualifier is listed in the op. It's the top 88 from raleigh and more. I hope the players playing in the kespa/mlg thing like MKP, DRG and MC play in the invite only tourney as well to increase their chances of winning a pool spot, since if they fail in one, they have a second shot in the other.

Only 3 players qualifying out of 30 is quite brutal. I think the eSF players might be slightly incensed that the KeSPA players got weaker competition and skipped an entire round of qualifiers (referring to MvP Invitational).

Well it seems like Kespa's are the more welcome koreans these days . tbh I don't expect a foreigner to make it out of this MvP tournament besides the absolute minimum cause by the tournament modus...
Jesus, MLG, your seeding sucks. Titan vs Nerchio and Snute vs Babyknight first round while gaulzi, desrow and Destiny get byes.
I assume you got fucked over anyway because a lot of your qualified players are living in the Ministry of Win house and they had no internet at all yesterday according to Morrow, so they probably no-showed.
Dallas will be strange. You have six EU players fighting for two guaranteed spots they will earn by not losing as hard to Koreans as the other four will. They got there because you invited them for the MLG vs Proleague thing, but those will be the same old players who had the teams/sponsors with resources to send them to every MLG, that's how they got into the spot for the invites in the first place.
You won't even have Stephano because he'll play ESWC at the same time.
You have three spots from online qualifiers but there's hardly any new players in there, too, because of the way they're setup with MLG reinviting every other player who randomly won a couple of games in the open bracket against some fans who bought a competitor pass.
Looking at this mess, I miss IEM's qualifier system. They're not completely different, they also invite players but you almost always get some new faces in there, players who haven't been to as many tournaments and might break out soon, and the good part is that you feel like they're actually good and they deserve to be there since they fought through all the qualifiers.
To me, it seems like for the foreigner scene you're only keen on somewhat supporting North American talent (only somewhat, though) which is obviously easy because the players you focus on all come play in the Open Bracket anyway, you just have to give them some opportunities.
For Europeans, it seems like you're going "Ah, fuck it, we'll take the ones who come all the time, people know their faces and they probably pull the most viewers anyway". You don't seem to care or realize that the system you use for NA qualifiers doesn't work for EU qualifiers because almost no one from EU plays in the Open Bracket.
Seriously, if it's August 2012 and you're paying to fly out Goody to one of your biggest tournaments of the year, then you know there's something wrong with the system. I really like Goody, but objectively speaking, it's kinda true.
Naturally I'm biased because I'm primarily interested in Korean pros and the European players, but I have a hard time getting hyped for this event. Only interesting factor so far is four KeSPA players coming over but I can watch them play in OSL and GSL anyway.
By the way, dear MLG, since you wrote this on your bracket page:
Results must not be streamed or shared. MLG will broadcast Matches next week.
You might want to change your own website so that it's not easy as fuck to get the results from the very site that prohibits sharing results.
I didn't look for them this time, but it's still easy to find out.
Thanks, stuff from MLG is always so hard to follow. I just saw that WR4 matches from the invite EU qualifier are aired/played tonight. I go to LP to check the bracket... nothing, after long searching at MLG website i found a empty bracket. God, i guess im just a dumbass or something but i cant find shit when MLG runs something online.
How the hell do you register for the invite-only tournament if you've been invited? this site is beyond a maze of links. I guess they do it by e-mail right?
