That's far too risky, to purposefully shoot for second place, because you might get unlucky and lose the final match of the group. If there was a match to decide who gets #1 and who gets #2 it might have been beneficial to drop a series on purpose for seeding, but with this format noone will want to risk it.

Europe: $190,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals(9), and Europe Finals(32). North America: $120,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals(9), and North America Finals(32). Oceania: $30,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals(2), and Oceania Finals(8). South America: $45,000 and all trips paid to WCS World Finals (3) and South America Finals(16). Total of $512,000 in prize pool, with the WCS World Finals prize pool still to be announced. While not as large as Valve's $1.6 million, it's still nothing to laugh at. Also, the nationals' prize pool.

GSL "drawings" are fun, HSC drawing are fun too (and hilariously chaotic). I think there was some DH tournament 2011 (DH Summer?) they did it too, it was fun to speculate how the groups would turn out. Even better if they'd have progamers doing the random drawing out of a bowl with a list of names or something. The awkward situation where someone places his best friend in group of death or draws only his worst matchup to himself, or anything along those lines.

Also important to note that League and DOTA2 are games that involve multiple people on the same team. From a raw money standpoint it looks like a lot, but per person its going to be roughly equal. One fifth of one million is still ten times as much as you can make from an MLG championship win.. How frequently are their tournaments with $1,000,000.00 prize pools? Are those prize pools sustainable for organizers after including operational costs as well in the long term?

You must have very old data for that number , blizzard was making that much in WoW gold times TBC/early WOLTK , then they lost milions of subscribes . I'm curious how much money will be in the prize pool though. Will it be comparable to Valve's money dump into The International? Poor every esports company ever, now any effort they make will be compared to Riot and Valve's incredible prize pools. Seems like an okay format though, shades of MSL. Still not quite sure I understand why every tournament organizer is in love with formats that sound super complex when you try to explain them. Probably should be picture-only descriptions in the future. Riot is making more money from in-game shops that blizzard ever made of Sc2 nad BW , i think its sound stupid , but MABY Riot in making more money from in-game shop that blizzard from WoW. Same for Dota 2 game is in beta stage so they wanna promote IT BIG , to make more player come from LoL , and Dota 2 have in-game shop to.. We never gonna see that big prize money in sc2 , because there will be NO in-game shop. Its a shame because i love bw/sc2 more that any moba game ( love dota <3 ) , but its still biznes No game in the world has over the spand of time, had a contribution margin that can even come CLOSE to WoW, the game has pretty much fed the entire company. In terms of money, LoL and Dota 2 are babies next to the huge giant that is WoW. And due to the development in the market, we might not see a game ever, or atleast for very long time to have same financial succes as WoW, since subscription models doesn't work very well anymore. Sc2 doesn't need huge prize pools, for the players themself it's still better in sc2. You are 5 people to split the money in other games, and they only have 1 tournament each year with a huge prize pool, others are similar to sc2, in total, + in those huge tournament, you can bet your ass that the teams will take a lot of the money as well.

Added on top of the yet to be announced World Championship, and all the expenses paid, Blizzard will have easily topped $1 MillionShow nested quote + On September 11 2012 08:42 Iodem wrote: Looks sweet.
