Once Stephano get into EG, their team is pretty much the top of SC2 streaming

Protech streams more hours then anyone else?.
I know he is on all the time but I assumed there would be ppl who streamed more.
I watch him a lot and he doesn't cast korean games, he ladders 2v2. He might watch a game every now and then and just share his opinions but very rarely.

Looks like korean pros are moving away from streaming completely.

Was nice while it lasted.

I think the list is only for people who stream themselves playing the game. You will also notice that there are no tournaments on here.

Thank you for your response. Guess I don't understand how the viewer counts are calculated when they can be off by over a hundred. I'll try to grasp a better understanding.

Well, let's see.. These are the total numbers of viewers watching a SC2 player stream in a given month (so I'm excluding casters, events and other games):

sqlite> select log.game,sum(viewers) from log inner join dates on dates.d_id=log.d_id inner join players on players.p_id=log.p_id
where date>"2012-04" and date<"2012-05" and log.game="SC2" and players.streamertype="Player" group by log.game;
SC2|21975553
sqlite> select log.game,sum(viewers) from log inner join dates on dates.d_id=log.d_id inner join players on players.p_id=log.p_id
where date>"2012-05" and date<"2012-06" and log.game="SC2" and players.streamertype="Player" group by log.game;
SC2|16540003
sqlite> select log.game,sum(viewers) from log inner join dates on dates.d_id=log.d_id inner join players on players.p_id=log.p_id
where date>"2012-06" and date<"2012-07" and log.game="SC2" and players.streamertype="Player" group by log.game;
SC2|16310764
sqlite> select log.game,sum(viewers) from log inner join dates on dates.d_id=log.d_id inner join players on players.p_id=log.p_id
where date>"2012-07" and date<"2012-08" and log.game="SC2" and players.streamertype="Player" group by log.game;
SC2|15699150
sqlite> select log.game,sum(viewers) from log inner join dates on dates.d_id=log.d_id inner join players on players.p_id=log.p_id
where date>"2012-08" and date<"2012-09" and log.game="SC2" and players.streamertype="Player" group by log.game;

The numbers themselves don't really mean much, but they allow us to see a trend. And in this case we can see that the viewer numbers have been mostly steady in the last few months after a noticeable decline in May. Back then it has been speculated that Summer is to blame.

Of the Korean players on Korean teams you said DRG was the only one to make either list. I'm guessing you missed seed and Losira making 27th and 30th respectively on the average viewers list, unless due to sponsorship, LG IM is now considered a foreign team, if so my apologies. If you also meant only player to make BOTH lists my apologies as well, as those 2 only appeared on average viewer lists.

Whoops, my bad. You're quite right, somehow I missed the two IM players. I'll fix the OP. Still, there's less and less Korean team players streaming every month. :/

Guys do you know the numbrs of TSL4 streams? I'm under impression they dropeed quite significantly compared to other tournaments as well as TSL3.
Is it correct?

I don't have any numbers for TSL3, but here's the numbers for TSL4 so far:

sqlite> select events.name,avg(viewers) from log inner join events on events.e_id=log.e_id
where events.name>"TSL4 Round" and events.name<"TSL5" and log.p_id=5642 group by log.e_id;
TSL4 Round of 32 Day 1|17457.5714285714
TSL4 Round of 32 Day 2|21978.5555555556
TSL4 Round of 32 Day 3|15957.875
TSL4 Round of 32 Day 4|23352.0454545455
TSL4 Round of 16 Sunday|13474.6315789474
TSL4 Round of 16 Monday|16443.2272727273
TSL4 Round of 8 Day 1|8554.17647058824
TSL4 Round of 8 Day 2|13729.0476190476
TSL4 Semifinals|10622.4285714286
sqlite>

The numbers depend a lot on the competition. Going head-to-head with The International sure didn't help TSL's viewership.

Also, I'm sorry guys that I'm not presenting numbers like these in a more pretty format in the OP. Life's keeping me too busy to do that currently. :/

Thanks for the reply. By the looks of things TSL4 has definitely lower viewer count than TSL3. I remember watching semifinals of TSL3 with well over 30K people on stream which is obviously no the case with TSL4.

Great stuff Conti, keep posting this informationm it's really insightful to the current state of SC2 development.

It seems like if you start streaming a lot, your average viewer count will deflate to a more steady number. Idra used to pull a metric ass-ton when he rarely streamed, and now that he streams more he has less on average (yet obviously he will still make more from simply streaming more.)

Yup very true. When idra rarely streamed he'd get 12k+ viewers all the time, let alone I remember him hitting 20k one time.

Thorzain only streamed for 5 hours in August

I hope he realizes the potential income from his viewer count and starts streaming more. Atleast he has been streaming the last few days now that hots beta has been released.

This is part of it but a lot of it i feel is IdrA's poor results. When he was pulling insane numbers he was considered a code-s quality player. You see Stephano pull numbers that IdrA used to pull because of how good he is.

My apologies, and thanks for letting me know! I took that information from Liquipedia, where it said you're on their academy thingy. I see that you fixed that yourself now, though. It's fixed for next month for my list, too. And congratulations for making it into the top 50.

Wow i didnt even know about his thread until i saw it in the news thread.
This thread is amazing, stephano doubling idras viewer numbers for the same amount of time, thats a huge increase in profit margin from streaming.

I would be intrested to see how often they run adds and their revenue per hour

Then I would also like to see the sc2 streamer numbers be compared to other games like dota and lol to see how it stacks up.
What do you mean you heard me during the night, these are quiet pants!
