Alt-Tab.Gaming is very proud and happy to announce an amazing player for its StarCraft II professional Line-Up : Kyung Cheol "Sage" Woo
Kyung Cheol "Sage" Woo does not need to be presented so we shall let him do the work for us :
"Hi ! I am Kyung Cheol "Sage" Woo. If you follow me, you know that I've been experiencing a slump these last days. Until recently, I couldn't find in me the motivation to keep going, strongly, and I felt like I've lost my goals. So I've fallen into what feels like blandness. I was thinking about a new start for a long time. It's time to find new ways to enjoy the game and the competition. Going overseas, playing in overcrowded tournaments... So I contacted Alt-Tab.Gaming and here I am ! I am really excited to go to Europe and I am very thankfull for my new team and their support. My courage and will are coming strongly ! Please cheer for me ! Thanks !"
And the Alt-Tab.Gaming staff is at least as excited as Sage. We sincerely hope that he finds his place in our team and we will work hard to make it so.
Most of you already know Sage as the team captain of New Star HoSeo and for his great performance in Starcraft 2. One year ago he performed an all kill of team fOu in GSTL season 1 which is quite funny considereing he only played 4 matches. He showed the same performance during IPL Team Arena Challenge #2, taking down StarTale all by himself and ending the tournament with 9-2 record. Sage also did a great run in GSL October Code A and fell one spot away from Code S. Alt-Tab.Gaming is very happy to support such a great player and will be proactive to allow him to show you what he is made of.
The new Alt-Tab.Gaming player will be provided accommodation within the Ministry of Win Gaming House. The MoW and Alt-Tab.Gaming have worked together the last few weeks on several events such as the coming of ATǂSonG and Kevin "illu" Vandin in their gaming house as well as their new tournament Battle at Ministry of Win: get outPlayed. It was only natural that such an agreement was made and it can only be good for the future of both parties !
Kevin "illu" Vandini, general manager :
"My first fight under my new colors is a victory ! I am really pleased and honored to announce that Sage is going to join our team. After very long negotiations, Sage has decided to leave his former team in order to participate in European events. We are really honored by his decision and the trust he put in our team. It will lead us to expand our team more and more. He will travel to Europe very soon and join the Ministry of Win Gaming House in Poland. It will give him the opportunity to train very seriously and from there I will be able to help him and take care of him during his trip to and through Europe. He is going to have the opportunity to attend the biggest events in Europe and to show us his true talent. I am glad to welcome you in our team Sage !"
Jérémy Lopes, Alt-Tab Gaming CEO :
"Since quite a long time, we took the decision to turn our attention to the international scene, not by excess of confidence or precipitation but because we believe that our work in the french scene is starting to show results. We actually succeeded to grow from little thing and gather a StarCraft 2 team full of potential of which we are very happy. Because of that and the general development of Alt-Tab.Gaming, we are now in position, humanly and financially to test our luck outside of our frontiers.
Sage was looking for a way to continue his career in Europe and after much discussion, we are really proud to announce that he is joining Alt-Tab.Gaming."
Haha this is the third thread now but at least this one is from the official AltTab TL account. Congrats again on the pick up of Sage and good luck to him and his new team!
It's good for Sage, but bad for NSHoSeo. They've lost both Sting and Sage in a matter of a few weeks. I hope it's nothing to do with the team's financial situation though. But it would be sad if that were the case.
It's always scary to see stories like these where a pro player of Sage's caliber joins an fairly unknown team as this one. Hopefully it was a good offer and they support him well as a player and not just some sort of scam style pick up.
im seriously pissed at koreans moving outside of korea... it says that he can train hard at their gaming house.. but europe server training is not good enough for the koreans.. omg another person gone from GSL. *sigh* congratz on the pickup but at least let him stay in korea..

Snute, Cytoplasm got their best results after training at MoW but i get where you are at. If i knew korean i would do everything i can helping those who want to get on a foreign team but are not educated

Yeah I kinda agree, he might be upset about european ladder ^^.
interesting pickup they must have some money they want to spend xD I guess they'll send him to some foreign tournaments and that's nice for him, a good chance to prove himself

Agree so much! PuMa was(apparently) one of the most requested practice partners in BW and then he got picked up by EG. In that GSTL game(granted it was just one game!) he looked quite pathetic. I remember that GSTL game where he beat BbongBbong, people thought this kid looks good. Then he beat MarineKing, who just got Ro4 in Super Tournament and then beat Polt, the champion of the super tournament! I think that he would have gone much farther had he stayed in Korea.

As long as jjakji stays on the team, I have faith.

Wow, so you judge Puma off that one GSTL game? What about winning NASL 2 with EG? What about winning IEM Cologne with EG? What about his second place finish at DreamHack Winter 2011 and IEM World Championship season 6? Or his third place finishes at IEM China and Assembly in March? Dude has won nearly $100,000 while on EG.
I hope for the best for sage. Maybe its because most koreans don't like the practice schedule in the korean teams so maybe thats why their going to foreign teams.
Huh, I hope Sage finds success on his new team. I was imagining he'd join a more well-known team, though. No offense to Alt-Tab Gaming, but I've never heard of them or any of their players until today.

Well to be fair Sage hasn't really had any results since he burst into the team league the first time about a year ago now.
Sure they're fairly unknown, but given the introduction from Sage, his recent results and the fact that I believe NSHoseo is potentially not well sponsored I'm not terribly surprised that this alignment happened.
Best of luck to all parties. Hoping Sage can flourish, not vanish.
Oh boy, one of my favorite teams takes another huge hit losing one of my favorite players so he can go live in a house with nobody I've ever heard of and play in less interesting tournaments =(
Yeah, sorry. I hate foreign teams picking up Koreans.

Almost all of his best achievements in EG are done within a couple of months after he left TSL, after that, he gone down hill.
Edit: What he said that he has so much potential has he stayed with TSL to begin with.
Wow, fantastic pickup for Alt-Tab! It's awesome to hear Sage getting motivation from big foreign tournaments, I look forward to seeing his opportunities in his new team.

@ jmbthirteen Even though he placed well in those tournaments, let's be honest... the competition was much easier than even Code A. Most of the competitors in those tournaments would probably not even be Code A level (at least the foreigners). Those tournaments aren't as big/important as even MLG (which doesn't even have most of the koreans), let alone GSL.
It feels kinda dickish to say this... but it feels like Sage totally blew his career by doing this move. But on the other hand he haven't done much for a long time and if this will give him a spark for the game again then good for him. Hopefully he gets back on a korean team asap if he feel like he really wanna go all out with being a progamer etc. Cuz kid has potential no doubt about that, but I don't think any foreign team can turn that potential into something greater.

That's true. I hope this new team will motivate him. Perhaps it's for the better that it's a lesser known team, maybe he'll feel more responsibility to step up and deliver.

DreamHack, NASL 2 were both like 5 months after joining EG. IEM Worlds and Assembly were even longer after. And now instead of the TSL house, he's at the SlayerS house. Hardly a downgrade.

So? He still beat guys like MC, Hero, DRG, Squirtle, July, and tons of other Code A/S players while winning those tournaments and performing well in them. Even in the last MLG Championship Event he finished 5/6. I'm not saying he is at best in the world status, but to say he hasn't flourished on EG because he hasn't been in GSL is ignorant.
Foreign teams have been very good for Koreans. I already listed Puma's accomplishments, MC flies around the world and gets top 3's all the time, Taeja has been a BOSS, Hero became a much better player, JYP is in Code S. Its up to the player to do well, not the team he is on.

eh, it's not really in the spirit of "Be the best in the world!" and other idealistic pursuits, but realistically you have to make a risk/reward decision based on your talent as to whether you focus 100% on improving your skill, or make some concessions to get what financial gain you can out of progaming, a career path that in the majority of cases cannot be sustained past your early 20's.
I`m a bit torn about this. Sure, Sage gets some shortterm money, but on the longterm this move will hurt his skill and therefore decrease his market value. Good luck anyways.

Yeah, no player who trained 99% on UE ever got a good result in a big tournament, and all players who trained mostly in Korea had awesome results and incredible skill increase.
Nerchio/Stephano/Mana/Thorzhain.
Idra/TLO/HuK/ToD.
You might be right though, it's just your link between "playing on EU" and "skill decrease" which is irrevelant.

I think for a player like Sage, he was kinda stagnating at NSHoSeo. Not too sure as to the exact reason for his stagnation, perhaps lack of motivation or just pure Artosis curse. But it was kind of obvious that his results had really really dropped off. It was a smart choice for him IMO. He didn't really look like he could regain the form which almost got him into Code S, and I feel staying at NSHoSeo any longer might have hurt him.
Not saying he'll be better with this move, just that he's got more opportunities for salary, new experiences, and most importantly prize money.
I have no idea why Sage would join Alt Tab Gaming at all. Their players are by no means bad, but not remotly close to the level of Sage at all. But i guess money speaks or something like that.
NSH seems to be going the way of ZeNEX, to be honest. Sting (who was performing well recently, particularly in qualifiers) and Sage (team captain) leaving, San trying to leave just a few months ago... it is hard to shake the feeling that the team is being held together with a string.

Saying that Sage's skill will decrease BECAUSE he'll play on EU ladder has no sens. This is my point. Quoted players are my exemples.

What does it change? If he's mediocre and stays in Korea, he will be...mediocre. Unless you know a mediocre korean player who won a GSL just because he wisely stays involved in the korean scene.

Okay I'll try, but it wasn't supposed to be funny anyway. It just makes me sad when a talented player like Sage who knows NOTHING about Europe and its scene joins a random unestablished European team whose players are third-rate at best (compared to Sage's level), just to follow the shallow wish of going "overseas, playing in overcrowded tournaments". The article implies that alt-tab is only able to send him to European tournaments, that means he won't be able to go MLGs or other events outside of Europe. The worst thing of all is that they have him come to Europe so he can't even practice with other Koreans, so all he can do is practice on the subpar EU Ladder or beg for high-caliber practice partners from other teams.
Hey, he knows Morrow, Jinro and Stephano.^^ Probably Naniwa, too. And most of the tournaments are in Europe anyway. I don't think it's a bad move per se.
Golden and Sleep did pretty well when they moved to the US, viOlet even more so. And Sage at his best is better than Golden or Sleep in my opinion. It's a chance to get a lot more recognition than he could ever achieve while being stuck in Code B in Korea.
On the other hand, adapting to the culture and being the lone Korean in Warsaw won't be easy. I hope Alt-Tab know what they're doing and help him a LOT!

The worst thing of all is that they have him come to Europe so he can't even practice with other Koreans, so all he can do is practice on the subpar EU Ladder or beg for high-caliber practice partners from other teams.
tl;dr: This is bad for Sage.
Be fair, he's a grown man and a smart one. He wouldn't join this team unless he had confidence in what they offered him. His goals in starcraft right now are to play in big tournaments, in front of passionate fans - is that really shallow? His career was stagnating majorly in Korea, the only thing he has is the GSL which he's dishearteningly failed to qualify for for multiple seasons, and the team league, where he didn't get too much run anyway for whatever reason. I love NSH but they're not in a position to be flying their players around the world to compete.
Whether or not this will be a good or bad move in terms of skill is remain to be seen. Sure, Korea is notoriously 'the' place to be to improve, but you can't underestimate the negative impact that things such as flailing passion or boredom with the game can have on someone. That's why he wants to move - new challenges, new goals, and an invigorated mindset. There's every chance his move to Europe will help his career flourish, Korea isn't the be all and end all of professional starcraft.
Of course, he is, and it's his decision, but that doesn't necessarily make it a good one. Where would this confidence you speak of come from though? Sage is a Korean who most likely hasn't left Korea since he was born (like most other Korean progamer that aren't Boxer & Co). I think he was just looking for any team that would enable him to "go overseas", and the first best (by his judging) was alt-tab.
You are right though, he will have more opportunities in Europe than he would have if he remained in Korea. But his skill WILL stagnate, but I guess it's worth as long as he is happy and able to fulfill his dream of playing in front of big crowds of passionate fans.
Song was in mTw Team and Neoangel was in GM and is one of the best french protoss with a lot of good result in some tournaments. But the problem is that almost all of the player are top french but that doesnt mean they are top/mid EU, that's why you never heard about them.
Not to be a party pooper, but I never heard of your team or the players on your team before. So congrats, this pick-up ensures at least you get a lot of attention On the other hand, I'm really sad for NS-Hoseo, their line-up was thin as is, and this does not bode well for one of the poorest Korean teams...
Huh. Haven't heard from Sage in awhile; followed him for a bit, but he dropped off after a couple months. Never even heard of Alt-Tab Gaming before....
Its good for Sage . AT Gaming has some partnership with Ministry of win . Its also smart move for him , he gonna live in Poland for some time . Poland is in center of Eu , its close everywere he can go to every Eu tournament now.
never seen alt-tab gaming in any major tournament... i think he joined without reviewing the team. but doesn't matter if he gets what he wants and the team becomes successful
well to be honest, it sounds like a repeat of sleep leaving slayers, he left a quality korean pro team to join a foreign team with "money" then the money ran out and he fucked himself over.
