If you don't like certain music, by all means go ahead. That is your personal opinion. However, you're not the ultimate judge of what's "good music" and "bad music" for everyone else. Realize that people around the world have widely different preferences and that often depends a lot on their cultural backgrounds. You're calling something "a match made in hell from the eighties and kanye west copycats" because you don't like it. Mentioning Chung does not excuse you from generalizing and degrading the entire Korean pop music industry.
I myself come from a classical music background and I have pretty clear likes and dislikes, but I don't go around saying "god, that country's pop music is garbage".
I think it's safe to say he was calling any country's pop music garbage.
For the most part, he's right. It's intentionally unoriginal, and pretty much removes any creativity from the equation. It's totally okay to like garbage music... I find some of it catchy... but it's still garbage.
In what sense is it garbage?
did you not read his post? "it's intentionally unoriginal" which is dead on and is a perfectly good reason.
Well, it doesn't make much sense to say that garbage is intentionally unoriginal, does it? If he dislikes it, that's fine, but he seems to think he's doing something more than uttering his personal preference. (He's not.)
The only opinion I stated about my taste is that I enjoy some pop music. Do I see it as an art form, though? No. I see good music as an expression of emotion - something you can reflect on and something that reveals information about the artist, the listener, or both.
This song was made solely to make money, push an extravagant lifestyle, and make people want to dry hump each other drunk in a night club. Just like you enjoying this music is an opinion, me calling it garbage is an opinion too.
This does go a little beyond personal opinion. I call it garbage music because it's throw-away. It will have it's week(s) in the spotlight, everyone will get sick of it, and it'll show up again years later a couple times as a 'hey, remember this?' track. If you find throwing things away to be offensive, then I suppose I've offended you.
I admit to painting with an overly-broad stroke. There is some pop music with emotion, substance and creativity that does last, and becomes a 'classic.' This song isn't a good example of that though.
To end on a lighter note, I think the video is quite brilliant. It makes me giggle my ass off. The guy's definitely a great entertainer, and a great salesman. I don't see how GOM could go wrong getting this guy to perform live... maybe even guest-MC
It's fun and it's good entertainment. Don't over analyze it.

The same people that are poo-pooing this song and name-dropping whatever classical composer pleases them are probably the same people that think death metal isn't music and electronic music is artless and just for dancing.
You don't make a good argument with broad generalizations. You should also avoid using the "don't understand" phrase. It's about as effective as '...so, umm, like...'
Gangnam Style is artless, and just for dancing. Daft Punk's Tron score is musical art.
Thinking one is true doesn't mean I think the other is false.
If you enjoy this music, then listen to it. The one's saying, 'this sucks,' are just as valid as the ones saying, 'this rocks,' though. There'd be just as much from both sides in a 'Gangnam Style sucks' thread. That's the way discussion boards work.

The people trashing on Gangnam Style are probably the same people who think "Eat It" is bad because Weird Al doesn't sound exactly like Michael Jackson - _________ -;;
No, I think "Eat It" is terrible because it's childish, annoying, and meaningless.
You are too good bahahahahahahaha
It's meaningless! Throw it away! Who the fuck wants a song about eating! It's clearly not as important as some other random love song! It's childish because nobody eats except for kids! It's annoying although it has exactly the same tune as "Beat It"!
lolololololo
loooooooooooooool
Not even your opinion? It's absolutely childish, annoying, and meaningless? It must be great, deciding what's good and what's bad for everybody.
lolololol
Ok I'm done.
Oh wait I'm not.

Ok...so it's like this:
Gangnam Style: Dance: Yes Art: No
Tron score: Dance: What Art: Beautiful
amirite
Good job on making art sound like you can pour it in a mug, half-full/half-empty style.

Thanks for explaining! So it's kind of like 's at the end of an English proper noun?
It's technically new, but I already saw this a while ago. It was definitely out before Gangnam style.
Anyways, whether Psy performs at GSL or not does not necessarily mean it will/will not benefit "esports". That's such an exaggeration to claim this is for, "e-sports".

IT will benefit through exposure, gangnam style is known by many now so hearing of a live performance somewhere will encourage them to look where it was performed, many people still don't even know that esports exists.

Totally agreed. Debating whether this song is art misses the point completely. It has made 10 million+ people laugh and smile, and that's a beautiful thing.
