I don't think he can ride his Super Tournament win any further. He hasn't had any other big success. And I agree on that top 4, but I disagree with lumping MMA in with the others, he's significantly ahead of everyone else in that list in terms of accomplishments and sustained an extremely high level of skill for more than half a year. Jjakji had one fleeting success, but has yet to prove it wasn't a fluke in my eyes. And Keen? Sure he looks amazing every now and then, but then he just crumbles and goes back to being a gatekeeper. He won Asus ROG too and some other stuff, http://sc2earnings.com/player/172/choi-seong-hun he's up there Not much behind MMA and DRG for example. Minor foreign tournaments don't come anywhere near the GSL and GSTL in terms of skill though. Polt has basically been flying around picking up easy money crushing foreigners and playing against the handful of Koreans that were either invited or had a sponsor to fly them out. You can't even begin to compare that to DRG's or MMA's accomplishments in Korea. They may be winning less money doing what they do, but they play a hell of a lot harder to do it. Agreed, but don't take Polt's win away from him, it wasn't easy money. For example in Asus ROG, he beat Hero, Taeja and Lucky, before meeting Stephano, a player which most will agree is at least Code A standard, and he beat 3-1, but the games were really good and close. Compared to MVP playing Parting, Naniwa, Hero, July, Leenock, Puzzle and Ryung in Code S Season 2? I mean Hero, Lucky, and Taeja are all good, but they aren't on the level of Parting or Puzzle, and even then there's only 4 GSL players versus 7, and the event is a couple months work versus one weekend. Not to mention that they all prepared specifically for him, so they were undoubtedly playing on a higher level than at a weekend event. Sorry, the amount of effort for a GSL win far exceeds any foreign event. PS I made it a point not to mention Stephano since I don't want to make this thread even worse. You do realize Polt has a GSL Championship right? and he beat MMA for it 4-0? and it was for more money than all of the GSL seasons but the opens? Just checking...no reason to claim Polt doesn't stand with those players because he goes to foreign events. Wait, people are considering winning Super Tourney a GSL win? When the hell did that happen? Polt has never won a GSL proper, WC/Super Tourney/Blizzcup are side tournaments that lacked the seriousness and prep time that GSL proper has... right? The Super Tournament was supposed to be the gsl of gsls. The biggest thing that ever happened to starcraft, not a side tournament. It failed because everyone good that wasn't terran got knocked out early.
If anything it should be counted for a bit more since it had a RO64. Sure there were code A/B players in there, but so many of them blew our minds with players like Ganzi (code B) beat MVP, and Line (code B) was the last Zerg standing. If people weren't so upset about the Terran pwnage it would have been held in a much higher regard.
I would weigh the Blizzcup equal to a code S since it had a massive group stage where everyone needed to play 4 of the best players in the world, and the WC significantly below since it was only a 16 man tournament half of which were invited foreigners.

So many people misreading from page 1...
He is on the B TEAM now, he did nothing wrong in GSL he is still in Code A. He is still on SlayerS. He is not losing his tag. He is not joining a foreign team as of now.
I wonder if it's something like MMA not practicing enough or playing other games (prob not, or else ryung/crank would not be surprised).
I wonder if it is something simpler like MMA disobeying something and Jessica teaching him a lesson.

I'm not willing to see another brilliant player join their ranks and descend to their level. + Show Spoiler +Fuck EG, only ThorZaIN, JYP and PuMa are worth anything on that team. What the hell could possibly inspire such fanatical hatred? I'm genuinely curious. It's not "fanatical hatred" - it's been said numerous times before that players who join EG are substantially weakened as players. Look at PuMa, HuK & JYP. HuK isn't even half of what he used to be. You mean PuMa, the guy who won NASL and never made GSL while he was on TSL, and then joined EG and won another NASL along with an IEM and continued to not be in GSL? Or JYP, the middling GSL player who continues to be a middling GSL player now that he's on EG? HuK is also the only non-Korean to win an MLG since the Koreans started playing in them, and he did it while on EG. Yeah, he fell out of GSL but so did Jinro. Is staying on Liquid to blame for Jinro's struggles? Your post makes literally no sense. His post actually makes quite a bit of sense, you can see his other post a few answers down showing their results and check the timeline yourself.
Its seems like common sense though to me. Player A thrives in a structured environment with many other top tier players + coaches and practices 12 hours a day and is constantly theorizing and testing strategies with his teammates. Player A starts posting results, because of his success player A is scouted by a foreign team with more money. Player A leaves the structured environment that made him the great player he was in the first place. Player A's new environment is not the environment he originally thrived in and made him the excellent player he was, he posts good results for the first 4-6 months on the new team then you see his results in decline. Player A's Value starts to drop significantly and suddenly he isnt even worth what the foreign teams are paying him.
Makes sense to me and it seems like this would be the obvious path for a player that decides to leave the environment that made him such a great player in the first place. Their are exceptions to this rule of course......
Honestly though unless a foreign team has a partnership or is willing to offer a korean style training house, i think its a pretty bad idea for korean players to make the switch. Unless they are just looking to cash in for a good salary for 1 year until their skills drop and they stop posting good results.
With the BW players joining the mix, having an optimal training environment is going to become more and more important for most players as well and the competition will be much steeper. With a few exceptions I can see alot of lone korean players picked up by foreign teams and living at home fall by the wayside. It just isnt conducive to their practice at all. They dont speak english very well so they cant train very well over the net or theorize with teammates. They aren stuck to a certain schedule and arent being driven by their team (at least not in person). They dont have a coach to help them give them the right state of mind and drive them. Their are so many reasons why korean teamhouse = better than no korean teamhouse, i thought it was pretty obvious to everyone but apparently not.

posts like these are absolutely unncessary. even if you were just joking around.
but in relation to an offense like that, if MMA really did commit anything sexual towards any female member of slayers, it wouldn't be a demotion. it would be expulsion instead along with legal action.
i think whatever MMA did is not heavy enough for expulsion but big enough for the team to get a "wtf reaction".
|
too bad for mma... he was an absolute monster for quite a stretch of time, but seems to have become a bit stagnant (although a "stagnant" mma is still a scary one). i wish him the best of luck in finding whatever he's looking for!
|
Cannot even begin to comprehend this. Score to the forein team who catches him. Best of luck to him because he is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better then the B-team and he brought SlayerS out of the ashes from when they were far from the best.

sad for mma, hope he gets a team
really confused as to how/why people keep posting about people's performance pre/post pickup by eg
yes sure they have some people either at the end of their careers or in a slump but I doubt that has anything to do with their pickup. Puma is a beast, yes he never got to code s but look at how long it took drg to get in. getting into code s & especially code a is all about getting lucky/performing on the day. pointing out puma's lack of gsl is like pointing out stephano/huk's inability to qualify for tsl 4, yes they didnt get in but they are far better than some people that did (no offence intended but lets be honest)
|
Also on the Huk issue even thogh he joined EG he couldnt really live in the SlayerS house and stayed at the oGs house and then moved in with Jinro when he formed his house. Just a small piece of information.
