Check-Six has just announced that Sleep is no longer apart of the team.
After 6 months with CheckSix, Seong Han "Sleep" Kim and the team have parted ways. Though having solid performances at all live events he attended while representing CheckSix, both parties felt that Sleep was not a great fit for the team anymore. We hope he enjoyed his time on the team, but for now he will be back living as a free agent in South Korea.
Here is a link to the rest of the announcement. http://t.co/zu2Amn6l

oh wow. Lots of stuff going on with teams
|
Bah. Too bad. Sleep's a great player though and will surely do well for himself. I'm sure there are a lot of people looking at him.
|
Honestly I expected this, xsix doesn't seem like the type of team that a GSL quality player would stay on since they seem like more of a team for up and coming players, not already established ones. Best of luck to sleep, hope he finds a team he can settle down with.
|
Sleep needs to work on being a better team player imo. gl to him in the future
|
Big shame, but I hope to hear of their next step!

Sleep isn't a GSL quality player.
|
Sleep will find a better fit for him in no time. Hope he practices hard and starts showing better results, he's a solid talent.
|
Hes a decent player, hopefully he can learn to pull a little more for the team.
|
Damn. I hope Sleep finds a new team soon.
|
What the hell goes through Sleep's mind? He left IM and SlayerS for a low tier foreign team. Did he not know anything about Xsix before joining it?

Am I thinking of someone else then? If so I apologize, but I swear I remember him being in code S about half a year ago? I believe when he was either on slayers or IM? I think he was on IM before slayers?

Heard Sleep wasn't participating with the team in much anyways, didn't practice etc. Gives xSix a chance to focus more on developing its talent like Suppy and new Korean player SeoHyeon. Good luck to xSix!

He was on both slayers and IM at different times, but was never in GSL. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Sleep http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/sc2-international/players/2086
Notable things I saw was 3rd at lone star clash. He has ALMOST made it into Code A before.

Ok I apologize, for some reason I thought sleep was in code S at some point, which is why it was so hard for me to see him staying with checksix long term, since I can't see them offering the same kind of salary as TL or EG or the other big foreign teams that can afford to keep code S players around.

My guesses are:
a) Wants to go back to Korea. Could be for a variety of reasons, doesn't really like living in the US, misses home/family/friends/etc. With OSL popping up and Korean SC2 growing, there isn't as much appeal/need to be in the foreign market
b) Being on a foreign team wasn't as great as he thought it'd be. I feel like Koreans go to a foreign event meet foreign team managers and get this delusion of grandeur where they think foreign teams have a ton of money to throw around, etc.

Although what you're conjecturing may be correct in regards to Sleep not participating or interacting much with his team, I think we shouldn't really make a judgment call about him only having dollar signs for eyes or believing in a superiority complex without having actually knowing Sleep and his actions towards x6, it's just these kind of assumptions that lead up to 90% of the witch hunts that go on in this community.
To clear something up as well, apparently in a translated article/tweet, Xeris was mistaken about Sleep's demand for a high salary ($1500/month) and was possibly just misinformed about the situation. But again, unless a industry insider reveals the actual figures everything is just theorizing.
(T/N : Sleep also expressed that what ex Fnatic manager Xeris said about Sleep demanding $1500/month is not true - I hope this helps the clear out some issues)

you know what's funny... Sleep is actually better than 95 percent of foreign players LOL.. and he's a mediocre player by korean standards.

don't think he really cared about x6... he went ling bane or roach bane allin every single clan war we played vs him lol

ya sleep didnt fit, but he is really good..

Sad to see sleep part ways with the team. Hopefully he finds a new one soon!!

Gotta be hard to live abroad at 19... best of luck in finding a new team.

Sleep was their best player in my opinion. He was beasting up ESEA. Hope he finds a new team, one of the zergs that have most potential I think.

Don't know what to think about this now...

Well that is unfortunate for Sleep but I am sure that he will find a new team soon. I actually think that it could be highly possible that he could join a foreign team even better than xSix, who knows ^^ GL Sleep!

I don't see why any foreign team would want him after this. And not sure how many korean teams will be jumping to get him either (but that has more to do with him being mediocre by korean standards)

Does this mean there is room for a zerg in x6? Hmmm? Hmmm?

How do you know? :O. If true that sucks. If you join a team you should practice with the team xD

At first I was sad to hear this news because he was definitely the best player on the team. But if it's for the best then it is what it is.

Sucks about his attitude because he's by far the best player on CheckSix and actually did really well there qualifying for loads of tournaments and placing well in several big, big events.
I really like watching Sleep's ZvP.

B) SlayerS still seemed to like him after they left due to tweets posted from when Dragon was picked up by Millennium so I'm more then sure Korean teams are fine with him as well.
C) Maybe mediocre by Korean standards but still better then many currently getting chances on their teams lol.

Yeah in terms of pure skill he's definitely on the level of the best foreigners like Grubby, Ret, Socke, Sheth.

I believe he moved when he signed with x6. At least that was the impression I got from his introduction video.

Technically Sleep did play in an Open Season against Maka (I just remember all the dumb puns about alarm clocks and all). I could have sworn he played some GSTL games too, but I can't find any of him so I guess I just remember seeing his face in the roster line-ups (which at least means he was an A-teamer, since Slayers has a B-team, not sure if IM does or not though).

Although he is a good player, he does have the draw that other players have on the bigger foreign teams. Perhaps heading back to korea?

i remember him being on IM and doing well earlier on. people are saying he was on slayers at one point? also it always felt weird seeing him on the roster. maybe he should publicly communicate what his goals are.

Looking at MLG pictures etc, I also didn't see that many shots of him wearing x6's uniform..

Too bad about his attitude. Good luck to sleep for finding a new team and good luck to x6 for finding new players who are hopefully better team players

Well according to this he is moving back to Korea.

Sleep was the only player I knew was on that team haha
|
hmm, losing your ace player always sucks, but i think that with Suppy's emergence as well as xSix's newest recruit Seohoyen (how the hell do you spell that guys name?) I think they should be fine.
|
I hope he can find a better team that suits his skill level more appropriately. No offence, but xSix as an overall roster is far below Sleep's level. I hope at least a Korean team or a decent-good foreign team picks him up.
|
I think it's funny people say xSix is overall far below Sleep's caliber when they always forget that he got 3-2'd by Mystik at a SoCal LAN for $1000. I placed the same as him at MLG, playing WAY more players than he did. It's only a little infuriating when you downplay the rest of the team's successes just because the star player is gone.
|
its a shame Sleep didnt finish out his matches for xSix in ESEA.

No offense but one MLG open bracket where the quality of players vary so much doesn`t help prove your point when it comes to placing. If xSix is as close in terms of skill as you say we should see the results of that in major LANs. Finding isolated incidences where he doesn`t do well mean anything as you can do that with many top players. Rather than getting all angry people don`t recognize the other players of the team give them a real reason to.
|
not surprising, now that kespa is in the scene i foresee many more koreans to part ways with european teams
|
Sleep was for sure their best player, but for NA standards Check6 still remains a strong team without him. They were able to beat ItsGosu most recently without using Sleep, and placed quite high in previous ESEA seasons without him. This hurts no doubt, but they should still be considered a strong team.

I agree with you that the rest of CheckSix should start giving people a reason to recognize us. However, if MLG is not considered a major LAN, I don't know what is. Most of the players on CheckSix are full-time students and the only LAN they are able to attend is the occasional MLG or local LAN, whereas Sleep was able to attend a ton of events. A lot of CheckSix players did very well at the recent MLG and I'm saying that it's unfair to immediately say "everyone else on xSix is FAR below Sleep's caliber." Just my 2 cents.
|
Suppy, Mystik, Mkengyn, and Panther are all strong players. Mercy is getting back in shape too and will really help bolster their lineup.
|
|
honestly, i think this helped both sides- Sleep will now be forced to work hard and practice better, and x6 can now focus on their up and coming lineup
|
Well that's going to hurt Check-Six a bit. Not going to tear them down, of course, but it does sting. As for Sleep, he's probably already got another offer that is either waiting for him or in the process of being emailed to him. Sleep is a good Korean player, and good Korean players get picked up (usually).
|
Hope Sleep finds a team! He is fun to watch play and handsome.
|
After hearing his responses at the GESL when asked about how it's going on x6 and how he's getting along with everyone, I'm honestly not surprised by this. It was pretty obvious his role on the team was just being a mercenary.
|
No idea whats happening but it looks like a huge loss for x6 imo. I hope he finds a new team very soon.
|
interesting. i assume him and violet will be sticking together for the most part now?
regardless, good luck to both parties

Phew thank God for this information, I have been carefully following this for the past few weeks. To be honest this was what I expected, but you can never be sure. I can finally sleep at night.
Don't forget to keep us posted about Seong Han Kim and his endeavors in finding teams and/or clans.
