Too many arenas regardless. Events for events aren't a good way of packaging things. Need to make it easier to follow.

Finally, y'all come back to Dallas. Woohoo!
|
So no more midwest stuff until next year?
|
I would love an event in Denver
will never happen though.

ooh sweet! now i have to decide between Raleigh and Dallas T_T

Still waiting for a championship event in Minneapolis/St. Paul
|
Sad that they cut orlando.. no tournaments come to Florida anymore...
|
Hmm I was hoping they would do Orlando this fall again.
|
No orlando? Guess I'll have to use my money on GSL or something else. I can't stand these first world problems.

When is the summer championship?

Hmm interesting that they didn't come back to Orlando considering they said it was their most successful event.

Orlando is a great market but it was no where near our best event.

So, winter event in the northeast again? But it's so cold :<

Hm i thought it was said that Orlando had the most stream viewers and most live audience.

I really wish MLG would come to Colorado. Lots of gamers here and we have lots of great host cities for an event like this, but I see that NYC is their preferred setup.
|
Interesting, a fighting game arena too. If only melee had gotten a proper successor T_T
|
What fighting game(s) will be played?
|
So is it the Dallas finals that will be broadcasted on CBS? I remember that article said 'this fall'.
|
was expecting a mlg announcement, their last one was during dreamhack sucks you have to wait for big tournaments for your annoucement t-t

So when can I buy my MLG dallas participant ticket? :D

Hi-def VoDs are free now, though, right?

Pardon my ignorance if this has been asked in other MLG threads - but are spectators welcome at the SC2 arenas in NYC? Just wondering - thanks
|
Hopefully everything runs smoothly at Dallas. I remember a previous event that didn't go so well due to the internet infrastructure of the place that the event was held at.

What happened to MLG Providence? T_T_T_T last year it was on my bday (11/18) and it is close to my house... plz come back to providence mlg <3

There's only one SC2 Arena, though. Regardless, there are four stages: Open Qualifiers, Invite-Only Qualifiers, Summer Arena, and Raleigh Pool Play. Listed below is how you qualify for each stage.
Open Qualifier Anyone can sign up.
Invite-Only Qualifier - 32ish each region Top 80 at Anaheim -> Invite-only Qualifier for your Region Top 8 of Open Qualifier of your region -> Invite-only Qualifier for your Region
There are a good number of byes, as the breakdown of top 80 was not equal between the servers.
Summer Arena - 32 Total Top 9 of EU Invite-Only -> Summer Arena Top 9 of KR Invite-Only -> Summer Arena Top 6 of NA Invite-Only -> Summer Arena Top 8 at Anaheim -> Summer Arena
Raleigh Pool Play - 24 Total Top 16 at Summer Arena -> Pool Play 8 Winners of Open Bracket Round 5 -> Pool Play

nice to see the arenas branching out to all genres of the game, hope they are well received to their respective communities!

Nice. Finally a MLG that I can actually go to without paying airline fees. Just a short 1 hour drive ftw.

It goes back to what I said about Spring. Less confusion is always better. Simpilfy my brother.
In any case there is no reason to drop the storytelling when you have so much to go on from the qualifiers themselves.

oooh fall champs on my bday

They should host an event in Canada
|
of course the SC2 event has to fall in around the time i will be out of town and not able to watch it grrrr.

YYEESSSSSS!! MLG Dallas comes again, I have been waiting over a year for this! I got into eSports after the last Dallas event, and I've been watching all the MLG events on stream with great envy, now my time has come! Prepare yourselves MLG!
Anyone know if MLG uses volunteers for these events? I would love to help out! I'll be attending no matter what, but it would be way sick to work for eSports as well!

Isn't the Fall event in Dallas? Surely Winter will be somewhere else then, unless you're doing 2 there on the trot...
|
It'd be nice if it was called the Autumn arena. Fall sounds weird. Too short.
|
WHOOO!!! Will be able to go this year! Not only is Dallas not too far of a drive from Houston, but I will have my check in on the 2nd so I'll be able to buy stuff :D!! Cant wait!

I've actually lost interest due to these "Arena" things. Just have a regular old MLG like you used to. I was significantly more hyped for those.
Please!

It goes back to what I said about Spring. Less confusion is always better. Simpilfy my brother. In any case there is no reason to drop the storytelling when you have so much to go on from the qualifiers themselves. To preface, I'm sorry if I implied that it's in any way on you. Successful or bad communication is solely on the communicator. The listener is never at fault - so if I'm making it difficult to follow, it's my fault. If I can't simplify it adequately, that's totally on me. Unless you're referring to the structure fundamentally, in which case, I have no way to change that, as I'm not really affiliated with MLG.
That said, Open qualifiers are necessary to ensure that people lacking the means to finance a trip to a Championship event have a chance to do so. An example of this would be the Korean SC2 teams in as early as a year ago: they have the talent to win an MLG, but not the money to send people to them. Open qualifiers are necessary to excise the Gret0rps from pool play and replacing them with the ZeNEX.Lifes of the world that don't have the means to travel but want to participate (no offense to either party, simply for the sake of example). Otherwise, you'd need to get top 80 to qualify to an Arena, and to get top 80, you'd need to travel to an MLG... kind of making it a problem.
The obvious flaw with that, then, is why have an Invite-Only qualifier - they did not, after all, have one for Winter Arena. At that point, I can't think of a justification off the top of my head. I need more coffee.
There was one part of your post that threw me off. Storytelling? What were you referring to there?
|
MLG needs to go international. We'll happily welcome it in the UK!

problem with that is 4 seasons, 4 championships instead of one. Doesn't feel as hyped or important as the 2011 season.

that's why you tweak the points system, and some qualifiers.

The points system was fine. The fundamental problem was that people who had points didnt always attend MLGs (specifically the people who won the MLGs) so it resulted in the points from the first MLG being much more valube than they otherwise would have been.

Can't wait for MLG to be back in Dallas! Lets do it right this time!!! ^_^

I really wish they'd ditch the arenas and go back to just having 7-8 events across the country each year.

so Glad that there is an MLG is in Texas, hope i will be able to go to it

Wow, Fall Schedule...
I'm currently organizing a BarCraft in Cologne, Germany for Summer Arena... That's 11 days from today... And guess what: THIS is all information I got until now. The date. At least they replied my mail and told me the time would be close to the one of former Arenas (starting at 12:00) so I could add the starting time to my facebook-event.
But I still don't know WHO's attending, or even HOW MANY players. How am I supposed to promote your (and my) event if I can't tell visitors, what they're going to see...?

I live in Dallas so i'm excited about the event being here! Question: If I want to compete in the Fall Championship open bracket how do I sign up? I'm assuming there's a ticket I have to buy. If this is the case, when do these become available? Are there a limited amount of spots? Thanks!
