Whereas I can understand you want to unvite Naama and elfi because it's a finnish LAN, I don't really understand the reason behind DeMusliM and IdrA. Evn if we consider DeMusliM to have had good results lately with the WCS, IdrA has been in the depths of hell since a long time ago.
The rest of the invites are fine even if NightEnd is a enigma. And please make sure that fraer and TiTaN play their games first should they be in the same group. We don't want lame excuses this time.

Didn't know people actually took that sLivko/fraer conspiracy theory seriously.

It seems I missed something. I just looked into Liquipedia to see if I could find anything. Can I guess that fraer/sLivko played eachother last in the Dreamhack Group Stage #2, both would advance with a 2-1 for sLivko and it turned out to be a 2-1?
Have to say that only reason I see to throw the randomized order of play around in group stages is when you have a teamkill; you would want to start off with that. Edit: Just realized that sLivko is also on RoxKis; had a minor brain fart (confused him with Aristeo, who is on Empire). In that case they should have started the group stage with that game, not because it is likely that they would rig it but to prevent the appearance from being created.
I have to say by the way that criticising tournaments for their invites is kind of stupid: if you know how to do it better then why don't you run your own tournament? Especially inviting people that are good at attracting fans to either the venue (Naama and elfi) or the stream (IdrA) makes good sense from a business point of view. Never forget that this is actually a business, not a charity. Money has to be made.
aLive is going to be tough to stop. Still, the nice thing aboud these European tournaments is that the European talent is more concentrated and represented, and the Korean-foreigner gap doesn't look quite as bad

Didn't Idra win the whole thing last time? Yeah he deserves an invite then.

I agree. Instead of criticizing their specific invites, can we criticize the fact they are even using invites at all? There is so much to be gained from having open qualifiers. Aside from getting the players which are actually good you also generate hype. And if they are afraid of not attracting the fans, they can still have half the participants be invited and make sure those names you mentioned are in the tournament.
Any tournament which is 100% invite based is actively holding back new players from breaking into the scene. Would Protosser and fraer have received invitations for this tournament if it weren't for their success in DreamHack? And if it weren't for DreamHack's open registration how long do you think it would have taken for them to break out?

This is the title of the post ... ASUS ROG Summer 2012 2nd Wave of Invites. So the tournament has the same name and is using invites....yea same thing.

It's not the same thing. ASUS ROG has always worked this way with invites, and the eight man tournament was something else. That said of course Idra deserves to be here when he has won an eight man edition before. It's not like this field is super small it has plenty of spots. Even if he hadn't won it though, a tournament like this really wants some big name Americans in their field so it makes perfect sense for them to extend an invite to Idra.

Why NightEnd or Protosser?
What have they won recently or really ever?
There are so many tournaments around the world these days, not everyone can attend, or will want to attend, especially Koreans. It's a finnish lan, Protosser is one of the best Finnish players, only reasonable that the likes of Naama, Protosser, Satiini, Elfi get an invite.

I'm just saying mate, Otolia's bias is stupid. I'm fine with all invites so far, IdrA and Demuslim are decent calls.

i don't know why they keep "annoncing players" it's always the same guys.... no offence, they are great players but it's not like they were annoncing lesser known players that also deserve to play...
like LLL.Orly who was top5 EU ladder before his finals or Feast that finished 4th at IEM world... that would change the "usual players" a bit

I disagree with inviting the same people to every tournament too, but as someone mentioned in another thread - it generates more viewers when fan favourites play, which in turn helps the sponsors.

They aren't 100% invite based, they added 2 qualifier tournaments this time. 8 out of 32 players come from those.

Yes, I saw the same thing. This worries me a bit, I have to say. Don't think it'd be as splendid as, for example, they'd get the ESL crew to do it. Not sure why they thought GDStudio would be an good choice. Time will tell, I feel train wrecks coming our way though.

Naama didn't get invited, he qualified at Vectorama(over players like elfi, Welmu and Protosser (and me :D)). And well, IdrA and DeMusliM are fan favorites :p I'm hoping IdrA does well again, scene needs persons like him.

I stand corrected in regards to Assembly then. 8 out of 32 is not bad at all. And you can even say 9 out of 32 as Naama qualified through a LAN
IdrA doesn't bring more viewer than HerO or TaeJa. It's fallacious to say that IdrA being invited is a marketing decision, he isn't as marketable as he used to be : his disastrous lack of performances as well as his incessant whining and bad manners whenever he loses would make any sponsor looks like they sponsor a kid's playground. Oh and he didn't win the last Assembly, Polt won against Stephano.
As for people accusing me of believing in conspiracy theory, it's a fact that fraer and slivko played their games last in DH. I am not accusing them of cheating, I'm just trying to prevent this kind of situation to re-appear. And everybody should do the same because if organizations don't act, players are more likely to be tempted. Don't change the players, change the rules.
A thing worth having is a thing worth cheating for. - W. C. Fields
After the recent patch idra is doing a lot better. There is about no competition for him in the NA-server. So i think he deserves the invite no doubt. Time to show it in tournaments now.

Yeah that's true, i forgot about Naama winning his spot at vectorama. It's actually a nice ratio of invites and qualifiers and it can create storylines with up-and-coming players coming through qualifiers facing off with seasoned pros.

This time at ASUS ROG we have GSL style double elimination groups which don't allow a similar situation to occur.

Unfortunately, Idra will continue to bring in viewers to any competition he attends. That decision is likely decided while including both his play and viewership.
He is 3-0 at the moment in the HSC, maybe this will be his breakout/return.
edit: "Unfortunate" because his invite could potentially have taken away a spot for a more deserving player.

every name there could have been replaced with better more deserving players, so whats the point? And Idra is not even the worst player on this list, so why discuss it?

I can't count on one hand the amount of players who are similar to IdrA in their ability to draw attention without results. Therefore, any time that he is invited to a tournament, there will be a valid discussion about whether or not his invite is warranted or deserved.
