update: seems like the coL.MVP partnership ended 2 days ago. The named reason is conflict in sponsor products. Even after the official partnership ended, "team MvP will continue to offer housing for compLexity players who desire to train in Korea." (nice move)

XlorD is really their only notable player, and even he doesn't go to many tournaments.
On another note...
It would be better if they partnered with IM. Then they could be MYMIM

Money is money. That's basically all foreign teams provide to Koreans in these partnerships, anyway.

Yeah I wasn't sure if they all just left or did they got kicked. I'm also really curious about how MVP is even going to benefit from this partnership. Anyways, congrats to both of them!

that was under a different organization.
bad deal for MVP, expect them to leave in 6 months due to not receiving salarys....
Really? The SC2 roster of MYM is pretty nonexistant. Only real player is XlorD and he is even attending college at the moment. That doesn't seem to make any sense for MYM at all. MvP will reduce traveling costs, but what is MYM getting from this?

The mYm with the wc3 players was a different organization that bankrupted like 4-5 years ago because they couldn't afford paying salaries etc., this mYm is a different organization that just bought the name from the old organization. I can't even understand why MVP would do such a thing. T_T
what? MyM doesn't have any (sorry Xlord) notable players that would ever do well at major lans. They better drop some big signing bombs within the next few days otherwise this doesn't make sense.
On April 20 2012 03:44 striderxxx wrote: complexity actually brought nothing to the table for mvp, so it makes sense to cut the weak link.
complexity came in with money and sponsors. Like SoundBlaster became MVP sponsor because they already sponsored coL. I don't think MYM can bring in the money they had to say they would to get this deal. Doesn't see this going well with how MYM has been running as of late.
The thing is not "well who does MYM have now" it's "how is MYM going to use this?". Remember coL before the MVP agreement? Who did they really have on their roster? Some notable guys sure but they weren't nearly the team they've become after the agreement, expanding their roster to include Koreans, offering training to their foreigner players and even having this new found aura. This aura that makes you go "oh yeah they're big" when you think coL. MYM now is pretty much made up of XlorD as their only real notable, but think of how much MYM stands to gain out of partnering with MVP, one of the biggest and best Korean teams. Think of how much coverage their team will get, the heads it'll turn and the spotlight that may be placed on them. They stand to grow a lot. It's like any start up team or let's say Eclypsia. First signing Welmu and Slog made people go "oh this is pretty cool I guess", then they went all our and took a risk in signing Desrow, Artist, and Scarlett, and pulling off that April Fools shenanigan. Now people recognize Eclypsia, now Eclypsia has the attention it needs to grow and I feel like this partnership with MVP for MYM will mean that MYM wants to become a dominant team in SC2.
Apparently you don't need any players to partner up with one of the biggest Korean teams. I hope mym has some new recruits because otherwise I don't see the point.

I assume they sell the concept to naive sponsors that they are winning the titles, etc. Sort of like SK did with MC.
yup, a name like "DongRaeGu" or "Genius" is the only thing that matters.
wonder what MVPs manager actually thinks about it....
maybe he thinks about all the players and not only the stars. Stars get their money anyways, but the "lesser" players are also very important. The rent for the teamhouse needs to be paid, food has to be bought, players need plane tickets and hotel rooms when attending foreign tourneys. You need money for everything and money comes from sponsors. Take a look at the MYM website and realise that for example "Razer" will now be seen on a player like DRG. This certainly is much of a bigger deal, than seeing it on Xlord (looking through the international eye).

they inflated player salaries a TON (paid grubby and moon ridiculous amounts of money) which caused organizations to be unsustainable (when trying to compete salary wise) and crashed hard.
there were other factors such as the game naturally progressing towards a slow death and imbalance in competitive play but this didnt help.

In short words mYm basically had HUGE salarys so they could have an monopoly on the best players. This caused all other teams to raise their salarys as well so they could keep their star players. This basically killed the wc3 scene. Eventually mYm got the point were they no longer could pay salaries/fly people to events/etc. etc. and this resulted in players started leaving and so on. Shortly after the organisation filed for bankrupcy. Some time after this some german people bought the rights for trademark "mYm" and started the new "mYm", which has been pretty much of a fiasco so far. Every team they've had on hasn¨t been able to last for more than 3 months. T_T

Because this mYm is a joke and is a thousand times worse deal than they had with coL.
I don't think it's a bad move for MVP because this deal will probably make it possible for MVP players to get trips to international tournaments paid by MYM and it's a good move for MYM because they get represented by some of the best players in Sc2. However it's sad that MYM is not really taking a lot of interest in shaping a roster of their own besides having Xlord on the team who should be considered a major prospect when he is going full time.

MVP only needs MYM to pay for their foreign flights. Genius and Monster are at dreamhack when they normally wouldn't be, especially monster. Therefore, this partnership is already good for MVP.

It has been well known the latest 2 years that the new mYm economic status is shit, has been said by the former cs 1.6 players (as well as the former sc2 players I believe). If they couldn't even send their own EUROPEAN teams to EUROPEAN events how in the hell will they be able to send KOREANS to INTERNATIONAL events. Complexity were sending the MVP players to every major event (Dreamhack, IEM, MLG and IPL), there's no chance in hell that the new mYm could top that.
I think most of you missed the part where the col.MVP partnership broke because of sponsor issues. So even if the deal is way worse, MVP propably had to find a replacement in a short time to not just lose all the sponsorship/tournament presence.

I can't imagine MVP went to MYM, considering their track record and having one player on their team.
MVP coach probably just saw $_$ and said sure let's partner.

very surprised that a team like MVP would allow themselves to be affiliated with the shady and unreliable organization MYM. i have always liked xlord as a player, but i would much rather see this partnership undone, mym dissolve, and xlord find a new team. does anyone remember the specific details about mym screwing over Soccer (currently Slayers.Ven)? I remember hearing about them not paying months of salaries to him when he played war3 for them (with good results, too) but i don't remember exactly what happened. help me shine some light on this so MVP can see their mistake.
SICKEST PICK-UP! Man Mym is probably one of the most talented players out there, glad to see him picked up by MVP if I read that well. Hope he shows some results somewhere around the world, sometime.

wtf, 1 of the best korean team partner with the worst foreigner team, what is going on, from their article, I am pretty sure they dont understand sc2 scene at all.
and someone should warn MVP coach, MYM is not the same org that have grubby and moon anymore, they are not in very good financial situation now, their website is almost shut down with no viewers at all, They dont have any team in any esports anymore, they drop their dota team, cs blah blah....
I think MVP coach just does not know anything outside of Korea....

trust me thats what we gonna try. And this time things are way better planed then in old MYM!
Obviously, MVP wants MYM to pay for international flights to get the Korean players to foreign tournaments (coL filled this role before, but could not continue because of conflicting sponsors). In return, MYM gets to basically say, "hey, look, all those Korean players are under our banner (and sponsors) in foreign tournaments."
If MYM fails to deliver in paying for international flights, MVP will have no qualms to drop them again very qickly.
Even though I am not a big fan of adorning yourself with burrowed plumes, at least this will allow us to see players like DRG at foreign events more often. That is, if MYM continues to hold up their end of the bargain.

Well that's really nice. I think people expected a more gradual re-entering into sc2. Maybe signing a couple of top players as a beginning would be a more intuitive decision. Sounds great though, even though one could say the scene is pretty saturated teamwise.
Falli, If you want SC2 fans to pay attention to your organisation, this isn't the way to do it. You are doing the exact same thing as SK, and even after having acquired one of the best players in the scene, they don't get much attention because they are: a) disconnected from the community b) a one-man 'team' c) (were) trying to ride on the success of another team
The SC2 scene is not like other eSports scene, it is not impressed by organisations that made a big name in other games, in comparison with household names such as MVP. Even if they see the Korean players with an MYM jersey at an event, they will identify them as MVP players. MVP will be the only team getting the fans.
No disrespect to Xlord, or anything, as I think he's a good player, but he isn't one of the biggest names in SC2 at the moment at least.
MYM would gain much more respect if you'd just pick up talented players (from the many without a team), and try to help them develop, and build your name from the ground up; sending the players to events yourselves, participating in team leagues etc. It would also probably be cheaper.
I can't respect this easy attempt at trying to become a top team overnight.

It makes sense when teams like TL, CoL, QiM, Mouz, etc do these partnerships with korean teams. When a no name squad with no name players does this it's just all finances and an attempt for the smaller team to stand in the lime light. I look at it as a payed advertisement, unfortunately I doubt MyM will get anything from it.

back in 2006 when Regroup was their householder.
New "investors" though seem as fishy as it can get, with teams leaving, all 3 months.
This is exactly my sentiments as well, this can end up really badly if mYm screws up. They might just basically ruin relations between the foreign and korean scene. "/
LOL, so what the hell is MYM getting out of this? Their only player is XlorD so ok, he is probably going to Korea but he could've went anyways to the GOM house.
I thought renting korean players ran out of fashion a while ago. Maybe get a few players of your own first and then tell us what great and wonderful things you will do for the starcraft community.
Dont think coL will go far in sc2. They seem to lack know how. First they couldnt seal the deal with Stephano before he exploded. Then they let Nani go, who is on the biggest run in gsl since Jinro. Their korean guys imo dont have the greatest potential, when I compare them for example with Taeja. Sure Heart had a good run, but he is kinda cheesy and this may be a one hit wonder. Killer, Nada and Ganzi also underperforming kinda. And again not the guys with the greatest potential. WHat do you guys think ? Am I too hard on them ?
On April 20 2012 03:16 Josh_rakoons wrote: Hmmm. That's really interesting if it's true.... Who does MYM have on there roster? Did they use to have Sase?
XlorD is really their only notable player, and even he doesn't go to many tournaments.
On another note...
It would be better if they partnered with IM. Then they could be MYMIM
Almost as bas as Thermal Take sponsoring TT1... TTTT1

Stephano backed out of their deal and they gave away Nani because he wasn't feeling well in the team. About their potential: GanZi is their best player, but he has a time limit as he just wanted to serve on a foreign before the army. Killer has potential, but he has fallen of a bit. Heart is a question mark, he can play really great macro games, but often decides not to. NaDa is almost certain to drop out of the GSL and sometimes looks more than decent, but sometimes he just plays horrible.

Would you rather live in the GOM house and ask Desrow/whoever for advice/practice, or live in the MVP house and ask DRG/Genius/sC/etc, and have the MVP coaches there to help you practice efficiently?

But the point is xlorD is one person. This either signals that MYM plans on aquiring a crap ton of players which will need housing or this is one of the most random partnerships ever.
Honestly, Complexity and MVP were my favourite partnership, they felt like they really were one team. I gues the conflicting sponsors were Qpad and Razer from what I can see on Liquipedia.
I feel sorry for the casters though, having to pronounce MYMMVPDRG, this'll be funny to hear at live events
Marc Onofrio @marconofrio Close @DUCKVILLELOL MYM is pathetic as fuck, I'd love to know what both parties are getting from the 'partnership'.
hmmm wonder why?
Well keep in mind you have a manager of the team practically begging in this thread for people to give them a chance. Shows that people don't have the best opinion of the organisation.

the real original MYM that everyone loved for their wc3/bw squad died like 2,3 years ago. A bunch of passionate wannabe who think that doing esport is easy bought the brand. But things are not the same anymore.
This MYM hasnt done shit with their gosu level of management so they desperately tried to get some exposure since MVP's players are virtually "theirs", at least clantag-wise. MVP should have done some research instead of accepting whatever foreigner deals. Anyway I doubt this "partnership" can survive for long

1) Because it was just announced that the Complexity/MVP partnership is over (however on good terms as it seems, as MVP seems to be still offering place in their training-house to any member of Complexity who chooses to go over to/train in S. Korea.
2) It has been rather quite around MYM for quite a while now. I'm kind of interested in what they have planned n the near future and how competative they actually are.
i'm glad that MVP and Col's relationship is still amicable (kinda like the slayers/eg training deal now, since those two teams also had competing sponsors).
i always remember that episode of SotG where Catz was talking how DRG was skyping with him about how DRG used one of Catz's builds in last GSL season--- too bad we won't see any Korean Col players in the next GSTL =\ (was looking forward to seeing Nada)
On April 20 2012 03:44 striderxxx wrote: complexity actually brought nothing to the table for mvp, so it makes sense to cut the weak link.
So having players who can actually compete, money, and sponsors are nothing? mYm can actually provide all three of those? Oh they cant? Hmmm not seeing your statement then :l
Eh, whatever. Good for MYM I guess, but overall this whole "sharing" of players seems a bit ridiculous. I mean, does anyone actually see it as being on a different or new team? I mean, it seems like weaksauce...just go get your own players or go trade players or just merge into a new team as a whole.
Overall, I guess good luck to them all, I just think this is getting a bit silly with how fast some of these teams switch around so-called "partnerships."
since I am an e-sports fan for over a decade now "mYm" still is a big name in my head.
This itself gives the brand some kind of worth.
Through a lot of ups and downs mYm has been around for a long time...
mistakes happened ownership and sponsors changed ...still remains a well known name
I see nothing wrong in pulling some money and buying into a team that otherwise would not make it to foreign tournaments. Both sides clearly profit! MVP gets their trips and players paid mYm sells their and their sponsors brands on a damn skilled squad.-players of international calibre!
Do you guys honestly think MVP teamed with other foreigners before because they wanted their players on their team? (players unable to qualify legit for Code A ?) thats rediculous!
If this deal means I can onwards see MVPs players on foreign tournaments:
Hmmm lets be positive about this then. Lets assume mym found some money somewhere. Money they didnt have before, or otherwise they still might have a dota-team. Lets assume they are able to pay what they promised to MVP. I can see the benefits for MVP in this. They get money to fly their players around and to promote their team outside of korea.
I dont see what mym would gain by this though. No one will look at DRG at foreign events and think for a second he is a mym player. And if they try to pull a SK then players like DRG have enough friends in korea and outside of korea to slap a stupid idea like that out of his head.
I dont understand this world anymore. After the BW-switch things will get even more complicated and weird i guess.
You guys are forgetting that MYM is a business. So it's pretty obvious what they get out of this, name recognition. Afterwards they can pick up their own top players.
I totally agree. Im not really sure what MVP gets from this deal. I doubt its very much sponsorship money but who knows. MYM has an almost non-existant sc2 team. Maybe they are looking to sign players and send them to Korea and this will be their draw that they can provide a house and a good team to practice with? Who knows seems interesting but silly for MVP
nice...lol way to move on, its like when you and a girlfriend split up for the best only for them to then move on to someone else pretty much instantly!
On April 20 2012 03:16 Josh_rakoons wrote: Hmmm. That's really interesting if it's true.... Who does MYM have on there roster? Did they use to have Sase?
They had SaSe, ClouD, Mondragon, Paranoid and XlorD. Lately they only had XlorD, until now
big gratz to MYM and MVP
Your forgetting demuslim, Naniwa and Garimto (2x osl champ in broodwar)
I bet they wish they did this when sase went to korea, before he left them
And you sir, forgot Artosis
Artosis cant be considered a player, he lost everything he ever did when he tried to be a player, cant count him :s
I am not sure what to think of this. Either it becomes successful and MYM can regain the popularity they lost or it is a total fiasco and we will never hear of MYM again. I tend to this the latter is the most probable. I mean, they haven't paid their Dota 2 players recently so I am not sure how they can handle this.
So MVP terminated their partnership with Complexity just to get into a new partnership with...MYM? They aren't even that relevant anymore in the SC2 scene. They should've stuck with Complexity or not partner up with anyone at all.
On April 20 2012 04:11 INFDexter wrote: Why would MVP leave a far more successful and established team for an organization that is known for failure?
Edit: This actually breaks my brain.
Well Qpad (from complexity) vs Razer (from MvP) sponsorship issues....
I believe the CREATIVE sposorship had a part to due as well so.. QPAD + Creative vs Razer
Also, I think this is MYM's way to sort of get back into the SC2 market, be relevant, and not have to overpay foreign talent. They can enter a "partnership" and cover travel to foreign tournaments and still get plenty of exposure, if not more than they would with foreign talent.
Bit odd. MYM don't even have any notable players. I don't understand why they're involved in SC2 really. If they want to get into it, they should push to get some good players, totally possible with talents like Scarlett making upsets and lots of Koreans interested in foreign teams.

The partnership was terminated due to a sponsor conflict, it sounds like Complexity and MVP are still on good terms. Particularly if they still seem to be fine with housing Complexity players in Korea.
This is pretty odd. Hyhy stated MYM never paid his team (Team Zenith now) their salary, despite promises from Falli. Now that they have no players, is this just a ploy to trick their sponsors into believing they have DRG and Genius?
Just look at all our great players, from MYM(MVP)... I look forward to more news, but this doesn't make sense to me yet.
LOL mvp partnering up with a d-class team like mym what is happening??? Whom do they have aside from XlorD who himself is not very good?? i dont get it col seemed so much better...
MYM started off huge back in the beta with GARIMTO, Mondragon, Artosis, ClouD and others, but none of them ended up actually being pro gamers for some time, so I figured they just abandoned. The thing about MYM is that they only recruit players that are considered to be the best in the world (their initial sc2 lineup was just huge powerhouses and huge sc:bw names). Back in WC3, MYM would buy any player who became "the best" including Moon, Grubby, Lucifer, Focus, Soccer, Happy, team captain Susuria, and others. Players would become the best in the world, then MYM would buy them and dominate leagues like WC3L.
If these were the old days, I have a feeling MYM would have just bought MVP and eliminated the name MVP completely lol. In this deal, I hope everything is successful, but I hope that XLorD actually plays well and gets better, and I hope that he doesn't fall off and leave only MVP being MYM.
Edit: I forgot to mention HoT, DeMusliM, Remind, Lucifron, and others lol. Jesus... huge players...

Funnily enough, mYm.kr started off by partnering with Hanbit Stars, a deal that allowed most of the Korean team to play for mYm in foreign leagues.
lol that hype video... besides the poor grammar, it makes it look like only Genius and DRG are being hyped. Poor... everyone else on MVP. Xlord isn't mentioned either.

I don't think MYM bought mvp it's more like their paying/sponsoring them in some way/benefitting sending koreans to foreign tournaments like yous aid about Genius and Monster in exchange MYM players benefit through them staying at the mvp house part of the team name etc.. Team MVP is still Team MVP .
As I see mym offered mvp something they couldn't refuse I would assume.

Remind was there only for a month I believe
You forgot GoStop, Showtime, Storm, BerA, EVE, FarSeer though. Yea basically they started out by adding Susiria, and GoStop as their first Koreans, and after that added whole Team Hanbit with Showtime, Lucifer etc. Then they dropped them but kept Susiria and Lucifer and picked up Moon, the one man army lol.
edit. Still important to know that all this happened under former investor called Regroup, and different CEO.
I highly doubt current investors are able to pay 5 figure salarys to their players again.
