20,000 x 20 = $400000.
Never ever! I bet that not more than 2-3k people paid.

20,000 x 20 = $400000. did you know there were around 50k for ROG finals? that's such a huge difference in viewership

Source? If you view on twitch directly it showed how many people were watching. You could watch the stream without an account. Look at my previous post. I stated that its a sum of all viewers. Paying and non paying.

I think for those who actually paid 20 bucks for mlg should take a read at this.

It's an exciting time to grow eSports, but now we also have greed creeping in, with eSports organizers ready to exploit the passions of the fanbase for their own financial gains. In terms of content, they're not offering any more than what we've always had, they're putting a shiny gloss on the production and charging for the privilege to see it in high quality. What's the return on investment in that?

In other news, Temp0 comes out with a song titled 'Guilty Conscience', only to be shown a week later that the SC2 community has no such thing.

It's not. First of all I slept through most of it because of timezones and secondly I quite often have problems with twitch.tv (a lot of europeans have) so I didn't want to pay $20. Then I saw someone explaining on IRC how easy it was to bypass so I tried it just to see what I was missing. Well I quickly stopped watching even when I could for free because of horrific lag so yeah I was happy I didn't pay, I ended up watching a few games on a russian restream which didn't lag before going to bed.

I watched MLG with ppv paid for.
The stream was quite nice, i likes how the casters rotated and such. After every game, they would ask who was observing's opinion on the game.
It's weird that some of us can get kinda angered by people who watched for free yet we hate SOPA and attempts to stop pirating.
It's also weird that I wanted to be one of those angered People, until i saw a post i should of quoted saying that "I'll start saving for mlg spring arena right now. Hopefull i can scrouge up 20$"
My heart is rendered upon such a reading. How can this wonderful thing calld esports followed by such moral hardworkIng people COST something.
I guess my new opinion on MLG is this: 1: Lower the price to 15-10. Not neccesary cuz the event was a success. 2. Since they eventually offer the vods free, i guess my heart shud not be rendered so much.

Those views aren't mutually exclusive. Piracy may be wrong, but SOPA was bad legislation which went too far.

I did not pay, nor will I

Nope didn't watch any match. I saw they were sitting in some kind of office, is that true? And the lack of audience is just weird... lacking the atmosphere of a real tournament. I guess this was a lot cheaper for them..
I'm perfectly fine with the setup of high-quality paystreams and a free stream with commercials between games and I'm also fine with MLG experimenting with different setups... I just do not support this one.
I happily watched Asus ROG Finland.

I wasn't going to watch this MLG, partly because there was assymbly, partly because I felt fucked over as a gold member. And not because this wasn't included in the membership, but because MLG makes you seem like the retard for buying their product.
How incredible sour does it feel when you buy something for 20$ and then MLG lets other view freely because they clicked one fucking button. Private, incognito viewing worked like a charm and I don't even call that a hack.
I had that feeling of being a retard when they released the damn hot pocket deal. You just had to fill in a 10 minute survey and you got the same viewing pleasure than the guys who bought gold to 'support' Esports and 'support' MLG.
Anyway, because they made it so easy I decided to watch a couple games. But while watching I was facepalming myself for considering to buy the 15$ pass. For me 30$ for a membership, or 15$ for a weekend MLG is a lot. At least respect the buyer and don't give it away free the moment the tournament starts.
my 2 cents.

I watched a restream only the sunday.
I may consider to buy a pass next time if the price is around 10dolls + the tourney start a little earlier (like 2h earlier).
|
Forgot MLG was on because it was not on the TL calandar. Watched Asus ROG on Friday/Saturday instead. Found a restream for the 3rd place match and the grand finals on Sunday.
|
I paid, but I will probably not pay next time. The stream was lagging all weekend. This tournament was like Homestory cup, only worse in so many ways.

Assembly was on at the same time and assembly was really really worth the time to watch it. But let me ask a question here: What is the limiting factor for an average person regarding the viewing of a tournament? gonna stop you right there, ROG was not on the same time as MLG. for me in CA in the USA, ROG was like 4am till like 12 pm and MLG was from like 9 or 10am until 6 or 7pm. I might be getting the exact times wrong but ROG definitely wasn't overlapping MLG and if it was it was only for an hour or two.
Well it was at the same "time" from the perspective of many potential viewers who only has a limited amount of hours each week to watch sc2.
|
Well actually I did not pay, but I did not work around it either. In a thread I read that the first hour or so would be free. So I just tuned in, but it never actually shut my stream down. So in other words, I don't see anything I could have done wrong on my part. Should I have turned it of saying 'Well I don't deserve to see it so I stop now'? LOL

Paid the $15 because I'm gold. Was WELL worth it to say the least!

It's just ridiculous how all the cry babies hide behind the "Support E-Sports" trademark. I am happy that i didn't pay 1 single cent to watch this event. This was not a Europe-Friendly subscription. Applying the PPV policy its just a ridiculous decision beginning by the fact that a lot of people couldn't afford it due to their age and parent restriction. Again, if you are in Europe or in other zones, you have the risk to tune in at awkward times if you want to watch the tournament. If you want to promote something that it's still growing, you should not apply the PPV: i have seen games from my favorite soccer team FOR LESS. And we are speaking here of Premier league, where the best players are. Oh and please, if you argue that this tournament also has the best players you are forgetting GSL and you are trying to compare two different things: a real sport, soccer, and E-Sports. It is really hypocrite people call out whoever by-passed the subscription. These who cry are the same who download their favorite movies, download their favorite music albums but when it comes to E-Sports its a whole different situation, hah. Hell, i would be mad if i knew that i spent 20$ to watch a "free" event, no wonder all the bitching in this thread.
|
I paid for it (as a Gold member) but I was really disappointed that the lags were so severe. I couldn't watch any of the finals on Day 3. Day 1&2 worked for the most part but only on lower quality. I will not be paying for another MLG event due to this issue.
|
Applying the PPV policy its just a bad decision, they should try to get as many viewers as possible, and sustain from sponsors/commercials like other tournaments.
The ASUS ROG was just better in every aspect.
