gonna stop you right there, ROG was not on the same time as MLG. for me in CA in the USA, ROG was like 4am till like 12 pm and MLG was from like 9 or 10am until 6 or 7pm. I might be getting the exact times wrong but ROG definitely wasn't overlapping MLG and if it was it was only for an hour or two.

I mean i understand literally how people watch multiple streams ( i have multiple monitors too etc...) but u can really only give ur full attention to one match at a time if you want to really enjoy it.. so ya technically ur watching more than one stream but u are still REALLY only WATCHING one.
maybe MLG should offer the bare minimum package... where i can watch only 1 stream with 0 downtime.
I dont want to tune into MLG where they have 15+ streams one day... I would rather tune in to the ONE stream that has 0 downtime and always has a match playing/casted.

Hi, Sweden here.
Me and some friends watched the whole thing. None of us did do any sort of "hack" workaround to watch the stream. We were all confused that we could watch the stream for free, as we knew it should've cost. I never even once got a popup about paying.
I don't think I would've paid for it, since the lag was pretty bad at the finals. I even missed one game because of the lag. Otherwise the production looked good and well polished. But asking for $20 is to much, in my opinion.

I didnt watch MLG, and dont regret it one bit. I mean, why on earth would I pay for watching an esports tournament lol? And MLG isnt even that special anymore.
|
I only tuned in for the free finals match, did not watch any other part cuz i didnt want to pay.
|
I payed $20 but was dissapointed by the lag (went to 240p). I watched around 2-3 hours on saturday (my time) and only an hour on sunday due to other commitments. I would have to plan to watch it over the weekend for me to get the $20 again though, otherwise the 4 or so hours I watched for $20 doesn't really feel like a reasonable deal. I mostly got the $20 for VODS though which I can watch later

Oh yes, definately. I am not talking about the two of them being exactly on in the same time so you can watch only one of them. Saturday night (in Europe) was the assembly finals. MLG day2 had not even started yet. But it relates to the part of my post about "content volume". I mean, I spent a lot of time watching friday/saturday ROG but I had no more time (or interest) to watch three nights of MLG as well. I got my SC2 "shot" if you get what I mean.
If MLG was in an empty of a major tournament weekend it might have been otherwise for some people. But now it was 2 days of 10am to 7pm (for europe) of SC2. No need for something more in this weekend at least. That's what I meant about "being on the same time".

Only the future will say if it is worth it for mlg but i have the following question:
What are the teams saying about mlg ppv? Or better: What do their sponsors say? For example TLAF or Razor dont care if its better for mlg to get 20K PPV - Viewers instead of 100K for free, but its lesser range to see their players / brands.

"I watched on majorleaguegaming.com/live with the 'cookie/privacy mode' work-around. I did not pay."
This.

i wonder how many guys bought ppv

I generally watch only specific matches( Xplayer vs Yplayer, or semifinals/finals), or only watch when im not doing anything else. I almost never marathon the whole tournaments, most times im just playing and alt-tabbing to watch the games. In some sort of way, im a casual watcher.
Now, even if I were to sit on my couch for the straight 8 hours and watch EVERY match, I think 20$ for only 1 weekend of content (even if the content is amazing) is just too much. I dont mind that they try to make some money, im sure they need it to establish a stable buisness out of SC2, but the deal they offered just didnt seem right.
Also, my conection is shit, so I cant watch it in HD, even if it was free. So why bother? ill just watch everything on some russian/polac restream.

Yeah, although Assembly and MLG took place during the same weekend, they weren't at the same time.
In GMT+2, Assembly took place from 12:00 to about 16:00 - 17:00 (that's 5 PM for you Americans), and MLG didn't start until 20:00 or 21:00 at night (9 PM).
I didn't pay to watch it, I used incognito mode in Chrome to block the pay wall. The biggest reason for not paying was the price point, which I felt was completely bloated. 20$? Seriously? Like someone else said, you can pay 20$ for a whole season of GSL, and GSL has a free stream you can watch live. That's the closest to a perfect deal that I can think of.
And as an EU citizen, the time was almost impossible for me to watch. And they expected me to pay for something that I would fall asleep too, because I would not stay awake until 4-5 AM until the broadcast would end.
I work at EA as a Software Engineer, I make a pretty decent salary, but the principle of paying 20 dollars for a weekend.. I felt like they were trying to rip me off.
Maybe MLG chose NY as a broadcasting point because it's one of the closest locations in the US in relation to the EU, but even then the time was almost impossible to watch in GMT+2 (Eastern Europe). And even in the UK, which is GMT, the broadcast would start at 19:00 and end at 3 AM. Still not a good deal, in my opinion.
In retrospective, as many of you have already said, a 10$ price point would have been ideal. I would have payed for it, given all of the circumstances. But 20 dollars just feels greedy. They kept telling you the huge production value you would get for that price, but it just didn't feel as that rich. Blue/Red lights on the player? WHOAA, high-tech! They didn't even have booths! I really love the idea of the booth. They didn't even have an audience. An audience would have made it feel more alive, more animated. It just felt.. bland. Not that the games weren't good, they were awesome, but that was related to the quality of the players.

How did you watch MLG PPV without having to pay? I would pay $20 but cant pay through the current channels right now...
I'll start saving now for the Spring Arena... hopefully I come up with the $20...

True. But I think people complaining about "at the same time" were more complaining that they can only watch that much starcraft on a weekend.

But Id rather spend my 20 dollars on gas thats only 5 gallons.. The pricing was just wrong. 10 dollars less I probably would have purchased it. I just don't understand how no one on the MLG staff was like " I dont think this price is a good idea".. Anyway I have more to say on the matter but I feel my personal rage will get in the way of what Im trying to actually say. Its unfortunate that I didnt get to see this event.
Yeah, I find that persuasion attempt weird as well. If I really want it that much, I will find the 20$ to spare. Why the comparisons to other spendings? Is this charity?

There were cookie/privacy mode' work-arounds and restreams!? Fml.

E-sports arent so popular and the show isnt so good to worth paying for it.MLG must asume this.I,ll never pay for this.No matter which tournaments is.
There is one more thing: GSL.Its pretty the best quality tournament, and u can watch it free.So if u skip MLG, No Problem!U can watch GSL and u will learn much more and have more fun.Anyway u can also wait for replays to appear on some web and download the thing,so why must I pay for this?
|
I am just gonna wait the 1 week and watch the vods for free. The event was highly unsuitable for my timezone and there were other events to watch, win win win.
|
Nope didnt pay nor watch.
|
i watched it at barcraft, i would never buy me a ticket because the lag on the barcraft with 50.000 was HORRIBLE and we had to watch sometimes below 420p and it lagged even then ... god why lag on such events ...
