Never will you make a joke that every single person out there likes. If you dislike a joke and hate on it hard enough, you will find yourself in a scene where nobody dares to make jokes anymore. There's no reason why you should have found this funny, however just take it easy if this wasn't your humor. So that the next time a player wants to make a joke that may appeal to you, he is not afraid to give it a try. I love Grubby and he is amazing. When you are doing good things, and you use them for some self promotion, it is still infinitely better than not doing good things at all. GO GRUBBY! I don't think people are mad that he made a joke(jokes are for everyone =p), it's the double standard moderation that people don't like. If any other person made a joke thread like this it would be instantly closed. For example if Idra made a full thread making fun of cruncher he'd probably get another 6 month ban. Plus Grubby has gotta be the nicest guy ever so it's sad to see him being made fun of and it being endorsed by the most highly moderated forum. I think you misunderstand our moderation. We give veterans and relevant people in the scene more leniency. Idra is actually the best example of how much someone like that can get away with. This post would not get closed if it was done by another progamer.

In fact, as has been stated, Grubby has International success in numerous different countries, where most bonjwas were isolated to just KR. This is just like all the Hon/LOL/Dota hate SC2 fans throwout. You guys need to realize that 'esports' involve more than 1 game. His sc2 accomplishments have absolutely nothing to do without how good a mentor he can be to a progamer It involves more than one game, but expecting people who have a particular interest in one of those games to treat a player with reverence because they excelled in a different one isn't realistic. If a legendary Halo player started playing SC2 would he be above criticism because of his achievements under the all encompassing umbrella of E-sports?

This is just like all the Hon/LOL/Dota hate SC2 fans throwout. You guys need to realize that 'esports' involve more than 1 game. His sc2 accomplishments have absolutely nothing to do without how good a mentor he can be to a progamer And sports involves more than say ball games. That does not mean that mobile phone tossing is on equal terms with football. Your post literally doesn't make any sense. Are you saying that Warcraft 3 is equal to phone tossing in terms of skill while SC1 is football???? Sorry bro, not true. Yes some games require more skill than others, but thats not about this. All this topic is about is Grubby Mentoring a up and coming progamer. Grubby can help as much as anybody, and possibly more than others because his success is international where as others were isolated. Its a good thing I think it makes sense since you understood it. Although my example is only to illustrate the point that winning X and winning Y are not equal. BW took much more skill because it was much more competetive. Moreover it had less titles to win. In BW every title that mattered had the best competition in them because the leagues are standardized and there were only two: OSL and MSL. In WC3 you had things like WCG and ESWC and what else that had national qualifiers. But the nations were not equal. Grubby had no competition in his national qualifiers, so he made it into the final tournament rather easily. The Japanese tournament had nobody who was very good, but someone made it into the finals from there anyway. Moreover, there were scheduling conflicts. Sometimes the best would go to different tournaments held at the same time. Now let us consider BW, and I'm ignoring the fact that the scene itself was of higher quality, but the starleagues do not have national qualifiers. There is only one way to qualify. And there were no scheduling conflicts ensuring that all the best players were aiming to play in them. Winning a starleague, even not counting the overall qualities of the scenes, is a much bigger deal than winning, say, a WCG. With that being said, I don't doubt it at all that Grubby has useful knowledge to share. As Nazgul pointed out it is good that he shares it and it is nice of him. But if you think he did it purely out of niceness and had no self-promotion in mind, then I don't know what to tell you. Not that it is a very terrible thing to do but do expect someone to call you out for it if you do.

I actually laughed reading this. Because I saw it as mocking himself. Then I saw Grubby's post. So then it was really satire on Grubby. Not a problem. Except that some of the things Ret wrote (when read on the interwebs) really, really don't come off as joking - with the lack of tone, and perhaps because Ret is European. Some of it could be offensive in that regard. Then again, if you want to know how some of the no-homo style references could be offensive, I think there's a thread about gay starcraft players somewhere... So it was funny, and offensive, at the same time. Just kindof... *puts on sunglasses*... tasteless. And really, good natured joking is good, but anything that could be remotely offensive to someone can scare sponsors. So it also becomes a bit of a business issue. hmm. speaking of good natured joking, Naniwa - new sponsorship opportunity! "Before Naniwa started wearing our new superpro gamer SCV sneakers (who runs more than an SCV? no one!) he walked like this... " (video clip of the awkward Naniwalk). "But since he switched, not only has his walking improved, his skills have taken off!" (video clip of Naniwa dancing after a tournament win). + Show Spoiler + Really, I just want that so I can see Nanidance.

The worship he receives that is totally out of proportion with his actual accomplishments in Starcraft, which makes it easy to enjoy him being gently teased. I've never followed Warcraft 3. I like him because he's well-spoken, mannered, mature, and has this charm about him. So probably this 'worship' you are talking about does not have to be related to his success in Starcraft. In a way, I think TLO has the same following size that is not directly related to his success but the characteristics just mentioned of Grubby. Which is great because there's nothing wrong with liking someone that acts professional/mature. I do think this 'joke' was of poor taste. And those that say 'you are not allowed to have a sense of humor?'; well you can but I say to them that "people aren't allowed to say the joke was of poor taste?" Maybe some say combatex is funny or maybe some say he's not; those that don't, doesn't mean they have no sense of humor. Grubby has good intentions of helping Feast and I thought that was kinda cool. But something like this thread may discourage people from doing things like this. What if a pro-gamer offered free coaching lessons as part of a SC2 show and made an announcement about it and a person (maybe another pro-gamer, or maybe even a TL member) made a thread like this to poke fun of him? Artosis show comes to mind or maybe day9tv, they aren't doing these things for free either.

The guy who won ESWC, WCG twice among many other huge and notorious tournaments throughout his career. The guy who's been living from progaming for about 8 years now. That guy needs to be self-promoting on TL forums? Get better arguments, and then post. Thanks
