since when has esports ever charged for any event across any spectrum on a stream? if you want to publicize your e-sport i suggest not alienating the people who watch it...

Having friends is not the same as "having friends who like Starcraft and want to watch it". This argument is just silly. You can say it for everything: Too expansive, well, share it with friends! So they have no friends that would lend them a few bucks either? Poor choice of friends. First, I really hope you don't choose friends based on their ability to loan you money. Second, borrowing for entertainment is usually a bad idea. Third, no one is questioning why mlg want's money (original quoted post). First, I choose friends based on personality. Second, borrowing $2-$3 from a few friends isn't going to do anything terrible for one weekend every few months. Third, they have to pay for the players getting there free of charge don't they? So they have no friends that would lend them a few bucks either? Poor choice of friends. So, your suggesting he begs for money off his friends rather than watching some free alternatives or skipping the event? Who said anything about begging? I'm pointing out how ridiculous the disgust at $20 is. It's not unobtainable. Yes there is an alternative of Assembly, but lets assume this person would prefer watching players like Mvp and Nestea like I would. You should be able to ask a few friends for a few bucks that you can pay off on later dates because you're their friends and it's only $5 max. I'm sure you could easily find 5 people willing to part $3 and pay the other $5 yourself. It's so easy to get $20. It's not hard at all. I could get $20 in a day easy just by seeing if anyone had $1. I'm saying don't give up cause you see $20 and go "That's ridiculous" when you look at all it's paying for, including getting the players there. If you have 10 friends, I'm sure $2 is something they can part with and not care about. All depends on how good of a friend you are to them though and how good of a friend they are. yeah, im sure they will keep you forever as a friend when every time a major SC2 touney is, you beg them for money like a drug addict. ITS NOT ABOUT GETTING TOGETHER 20 dollars. its about geeting together 20 bucks for a 3 day Sc2 tournament, lol. Implying that all major tournaments are all $20. Good job there bud. GOM has PPV events and that's about it from off the top of my head. You can get $20 from strangers too by the way. "Hey does anyone have a buck?" then move to the next area and repeat. Just gotta put effort in it. If everyone in this thread was thinking like you, every1 would buy an 20 dollar pass. If every1 buys a 20 dollar pass, why should the other tournament organizers not do the same? Just think bud.

Scratch that I was wrong there. I put too much faith in Sundance and his saying they'd move to a seasonal format and his calling the upcoming arena the "Winter Arena"

Just to put some things in perspective, I did a little digging back, and there was NOTHING that would lead anyone to believe MLG's Winter Arena was NOT part of the "2012 Pro Circuit" In this interview, the MLG Winter Arena Online Qualifiers, MLG Winter Arena, and MLG Winter Championship are all referred to as part of the 2012 Pro Circuit. In all previous mentions of the Winter Arena (bar the initial mention of prize pools being separate from the Championship Events) no differentiation was made between the Winter Arena and Winter Championship as far as the Pro Circuit is concerned. I think MLG should have announced this either: a) With the announcement of the new 2012 Pro Circuit [and Arenas, since apparently they are not part of the Pro Circuit] or b) With the re-vamp of the MLG Subscription Program. Everything about this just screams "exploitation through misinformation" in my mind.

We don't know that and seriously? if I am asked by my fd to borrow $2-$5 4 times a year, what kind of impression do you think he is going to leave me? I would prefer having friends that can sort out their own finance and more organised. plus you think people are over reacting to a 20 bucks? That's not for you to decide. People react according to their situation, not your situation. Not everyone wants to save up 20bucks for something that used to be free. I for one hate it as I can only watch may be 5 matches overall. Is this pricing model even well-designed? How about those gold members that got screwed?

There is no way is worth it to pay 20$ for this tournament unless you have a lot of money GSL is a much better thing to put your money into...

Arena of Legends is quite different. GOM said, upfront, that Special Events (like Arena of Legends) would not be part of the regular GSL Season Ticket, as they are not related in any way to the current, past, or upcoming GSL Season. MLG, on the other hand, hinted and implied (perhaps even stated) that the Winter Arena was part of the 2012 Circuit. The MLG Winter Arena directly feeds in to the Winter Championship event.
